my property taxes are $1700 a year for a sub $300k house. My town has a nationally ranked 5 star public school. They can marry all the cousins they want. Enjoy your $7k+ a year taxes... and 7 round mags.

yes, yes we all say we don't care about the other guy. But honestly, we do. Yeah most of us hunt for our own reasons and don't really care about what others do. But I'm sure, just like me you share your buck pics with your friends, family and coworkers. We're men. We're competitive. So if you're going to put a weapon in the same season you will get guys making false claims. That's all.

you need a cc permit in MS to carry during bow. You cannot finish a deer with one. You also would not have anyone bat an eye at a single 9mm shot during bow season. A few rifle cracks would get you some attention. But again, for as backwards as the south may be sometimes, there's a lot more common sense laws and self policing. The government doesn't feel the need to be in your business or to tax you if you wear an unapproved style of underwear like NY.

2 Saturdays ago i arrived at the parking spot for my new favorite spot. It's a parking area right next to a small lake/large pond. I haven't had a shot there yet but haven't been skunked. It's pretty good to always see deer on public land. Anyhow, it's about a 1/2 mile hike to my spot, but it's a little out of the way and not an area average joe would think about. In the summer when I was scouting it, I really wanted to get to the other side of the lake due to some really interesting topography. But after some intense machete whacking hiking I was 45 minutes in, sweaty and pissed and gave up before I even reached the area. Anyhow, when I arrived at the parking spot 2 Saturdays ago I saw a guy unloading a small john boat. I figured he was fishing. Nope, this guy was using the boat to access the other side. Dedication.

Have you ever accidentally shot something?
Five Seasons replied to ATbuckhunter's topic in General Chit Chat
I shot a bb once when i was young also thinking it was a doe. I was kinda upset about that because I was passing deer most of gun waiting for a buck. but this "doe" kept coming around and eventually my itchy trigger finger got the best of me. He sure was tasty though. -

You cannot prove a few of those holes in my fence are from arrows and not carpenter bees. Go ahead, try and prove it. -
It's not the deer wouldn't have expired eventually. It's quickening the process so it doesn't suffer, and so the meat doesn't spoil or coyotes get it. Then his life isn't meaningless.

I see your point and understand it. I've never lost a deer bow hunting. I can't say the same about gun. My only thought is that when tracking, it's much harder to get an arrow nocked and on target to a deer who might only give you a few seconds to finish the deal.
-
Same here. It's kind of what triggered the question. Part B. What if you knew nobody would abuse or take advantage of the rule. Some wounded deer aren't easy to put down with another arrow.
-
Wouldn't hesitate for a second to put a deer out of its misery.
-
Legal to finish off wounded deer (on ground and tracking) with a firearm during archery season.

Cooler for hanging deer near letchworth? ??
Five Seasons replied to DanielT's topic in Deer Processing
for $30 i'd just have them cut it up. I'd never pay that personally. I'd rather quarter them and put them on ice till i got home and could cut them up. a few bucks for ice and 30 minutes to skin and quarter? all day. -
i'd prefer a hang on. they're just that much easier to get in to and out of quick and easy. But they're just not versatile if you want to hunt a few different spots. the backrest you speak of on the summit is really just a pad that ties around the tree, but yes if you set the climber up right they're more comfy than a hang on even. Personally I stand a lot and prefer a lower profile to comfort. Have some pretty small hang ons that aren't great for all day sits, but the reduced profile is good. You can also put a blind to cover your waist down on a stand that really helps reduce movement.

so would it bother you if some guy shot a book buck with his xbow and claimed it was with a compound? furthermore do we believe that wont happen?
-
no. rubs will have a more shredded look to them, like those posted by others.

maybe it's just me, and it doesn't matter if I'm a mile in or not, but I go back to the truck or house with stand and weapon after the retrieval and gut. Change to lighter cloths and grab the cart and had back.

Dissapointed in Remington
Five Seasons replied to WhitetailAddict11's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
i agree that most hunters probably shoot 5 or less, but I dont think anyone ever disregards quality for almost anything. I do find it funny when people buy the cheapest of something and get upset when it breaks. But most gun owners I know would never trust a firearm they couldn't rely on, regardless of price. So as a consumer I'd expect a more expensive gun to hold up better to rough treatment and shoot straighter, but I'd still expect any firearm I buy to shoot straight and go bang as long as i take care of it. -
Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?
Five Seasons replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
if you already own a 30-06 I'm not sure I'd spend any money on a rifle. Certainly not a .308. Just my .02. -
should crossbow kills be entered into the archery record books?
-
I don't mind the license price as long as it continues to go into the conservation fund. I'd gladly double the price if it meant more ECOs.

if the weight of a summit gets you winded you shouldn't be using a climber. anything roughly 20 lbs on your back shouldn't be a problem. Sure, lighter is better but i'm not going to sacrifice the comfort of a 4+ hour sit for a few extra pounds that I should be in shape enough to carry anyhow.
-
same thing happened to me at 20'. fireman pole slid down the tree all the way to the bottom. tore up my baselayer and belly pretty bad. haven't used it since and bought the summit. they still take getting used to. so don't expect 5 minutes off the bat. and if anything, taking your time is more important. with everything in life, the more you use it, the better you'll get.

I'm going to be that guy, because I've followed your post. Until you have a few deer under your belt I believe it's best to refrain from making any definitive decisions on what works and what doesn't. there are far too many variables that attribute to hunting success. guys kill deer in red flannels stinking like cigs and beer guys kill deer on the ground and in the tree guys kill deer after getting winded even or busted for movement guys kill deer downwind just because you can screw up everything and still get lucky doesn't mean you throw out your camo and disregard all the tactics that may improve your success. If you don't believe in scent killers, you can still use plain old baking soda and water and not feel like you were "dooped". I have no problem with the guy using tide and irish spring. But I also just don't understand why you would just totally dismiss the scent free and scent killer products.

i admit, prior to hunting public land I had envisioned all the horrors I was told about. After hunting it, I really didn't experience any of it. the biggest truth and it's not surprising is that the density is much lower and the deer are far more skittish/nocturnal

so now what my arrows are made of decide if it's archery or not? Not the fact that it has a scope and bipod? lol. I have nothing against the tool itself. I don't like the season it's in.
