  1. that's what i'm confused about. you don't just poach a monster to leave it there. makes no sense.
  2. definitely wouldn't do that. thanks for the feedback.
  3. I can't say i lost any respect for him. Not everybody has to be a stone cold killer. Or that group would be no better than the group that raided them. At least he's not as passive as the priest.
  4. so in this wma you have to drop the jawbone off with your harvest. you can get the age report back if you ask. she was 75lb dressed I think... and a 2.5 year old doe. lol. we just have to shoot more in the south.
  5. And I know dozens of bow hunters who have never torn or blown anything. I disagree that it's a matter of time. All my uncles and late grandpa are in their 60's or late 70's without issue. My grandpa decreased poundage as he got older, but dad and uncles are still pretty high. They all exercise, practice and are in good shape. That's the important part. Doesn't make you immune but it helps. They all also draw occasionally throughout the sit.
  6. interesting you bring this up. I've just been using a pull up rope and keeping my bow laid on the bar of my summit. I heard about the summit holder and thought it sounded pretty cool for $15. But then read a review that it needs to come off and on in order to pack up the climber. can anyone confirm or deny this?
  7. initial setup of a hang on is longer, but once done properly you just hop up in your stand and go. The climber of course much more versatile and easier for getting up and down and moving. do not skimp on a climber. i bought a cheap field and stream from dicks a few years back for like $130. the thing was not just heavy and loud but down right dangerous. You can get the summit viper sd's on sale now and then for $250 shipped. It will be an investment that will easily pay for itself over the years. You can also consider a blind. But be aware you'll need to sit shooting down unless you buy one you can stand in like a big mike.
  8. when you say they found the body, do you mean it was headless?
  9. public land for bow season is pretty similar to hunting your own private land. the exception i've found is that the densities are lower and the deer are still more skitish. gun seems to die down quite a bit after opening weekend and thanksgiving so don't give up. sometimes closer to the road is actually better because the deer circle back after being pushed. of course deep is good, but it's still not a substitute for good terrain. you still want to focus on funnels and pinch points, transitions and areas you can access without bumping all the deer to the pumpkin sitting around the corner. So I'd say, it's not necessarily distance but ease of access. that's where you want to be. had to hike down a big ass ravine to get to a public land spot that was a funnel due to a creek and the ravines. it also was a transition zone between bedding and hard woods. it was a mini-nightmare to get him out, but it was only a 5 minute hike in. but to a lazy guy, you wouldn't want to hike back up. 2 schools of thought with time of day. some get in super early so the tardy hunters will push the deer. others will head in late, and possible push deer but stay later as the early guys leave and bump. I usually leave around 10 but got in late one day and at 10:45 came this doe. she was clearly bumped and on a tear but stopped long enough for me to drop her. (dont laugh at the size of our mississippi deer )
  10. one of the better episodes in the last few season in my opinion. usually there's some dull moments and character building but this felt like a 30 minute episode the pace and action was so good. carol elevated her BA status even higher.
  11. then hunt where there are no acorns and get winded.
  12. I'm no passivist but I don't understand the violence in some people. And I've been broken into and robbed twice. It just doesn't solve anything and can lead to a nice arrest record. We unfortunately live in a different time where 2 gentleman can't settle their disagreements with a nice brawl. You're more likely to get a summons for hauling off on someone.
  13. the scentlok suits use a carbon liner. the outer is usually some sore of weather protective shell. What you don't want to do with carbon is over wash.
  14. here let me lean back and hold these antlers up real close. man that drives me nuts.
  15. cool story. that's some balls to hunt only 12' up without cover. You might also consider the biggest trophy is that this buck might extend this guy's life.
  16. luckily few hunters will be out there in mz anymore except the few without any meat in the freezer still.
  17. but if it was legal... you'd have no problem ending someones life for a $150 ladder stand?
  18. try to stay loose without moving is not easy but it's possible. at the very least, some light shrugs for 30 seconds will help to get the blood flowing.
  19. looks great. where about is the camp?
  20. lol @ the whole concept. I guess it's still archery right?
