It's better than nothing and provides gps tracking

you asked before what? You're the one who just answered a question I had for him... to which he never answered?

I was surprised to not see as many end of season sales as I usually did last year. I'd like some new base layers too but can't get over the price. In the market for some better binocs too. Maybe some new boots. Doesn't take long for the cart bill to add up...

This is the same argument the older generations make about the stuff we now deem unsafe. "hey i survived and I had a wooden crib painted with lead paint" sure many and most were not effected. But i guarantee if you did a study you'd find plenty of dead lost hunter stories. Many of which might have survived with a phone. I do agree that my generation has softened considerably and relies too much on technology. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't also understand its benefits. People are living longer, healthier lives. More people are being saved from injuries due to quicker responses and better medical equipment. Hunters falling out of treestands are decreasing as awareness is made around fall safety and companies are building safer stands and more comfortable fall restraint systems. I will admit there have been hunts where I passed time on my phone, but 95% of the time it's on silent tucked in my pack. Hunting is about time alone with nature for me. More than it has ever been about killing a deer.

while I hunt private land, the land is surrounded by other hunters. Never been a huge fan of being the pumpkin in the tree for all to see. There's something cool and stealthy about bow hunting. A "gang" of bow hunters could harvest a dozen deer on any property and nobody would ever know. The same cannot be said for gun hunting. You see the hunters walk in and walk out and you can hear every shot. I like to slip in, slip out and be undetected. Is there any reason for this feeling? No not really, and i'm not sure I care what others think about this feeling, but I know I'm not alone. While I respect the turkey hunter and small game hunter argument, I really do not see a lot of this in my area to be concerned.

exactly. Go to Old Forge, they'll eat of your hand. Parts of Wayne county they hear 4 wheelers and cars and kids and dogs all day and do not flinch. Go to more remote parts of the adirondaks and a good fart might scare a deer. It all depends.

most hunters dont hunt from ladder stands for turkey (chances are he didnt look up). But maybe you do. I guess you could keep perfectly still on the ground to get a bird within 30. I know I cant, so I bow to you.

Every year some new stuff comes onto the market. Every year 90% of it is crap. I like to save a few hundred to replace something old and worn or to get something I think will allow me to be more comfortable or hunt longer or more successfully. As we get into August, what are some things you guys are scoping out or have already purchased?

the adirondacks is tough. I'm not familiar with your area, but i have a cabin near Racquet lake. Lots of hunters and not a lot of deer. We all know the monsters are there and they're a very rewarding challenge. Are you trophy or meat hunting? I think you'd be better off meat hunting in webster park You might want to consider doing some stalking. Not a lot of brush and ground cover because it's forever wild so it's not logged. Easier to move around on. Therefore in my opinion the lack of undergrowth has hurt the animal populations... that and the huge snowfalls.

I believe camo is more about breaking up your outline then anything. I swear my ghillie suite could be orange and I'd be fine. The simple 3d depth and concealment it adds has allowed me to get closer to deer than ever before. It's better than any of the 600 different patterns offered out there. camo has become more of a fashion statement to wear around town then anything i think. Guys in the 60's were stacking deer in whole pants and red and black lumberjack shirts.

woah. did you really just compare posted signs to hunters wearing orange?

i believe it was directed at Papist for spouting off about a police state before he knew anything about the case. -
There is never an excuse to shoot at anything you can not identify. I don't care if I wore a hat with antlers. A good hunter should be waiting for a good clean shot where he can clearly identify his target. Turkey, deer etc. it's a shame every year some guy shoots into the bushes at movement. Dicks has this vest for a few bucks that zips up into a ball and fits great into a pocket or pack. I use this with a reversible hat.

if I'm on the ground or hiking in and out in the light then you're stupid not to wear orange. Even on your own property some d-bag could have snuck on. In the stand or walking with a light at dark I do not wear orange.

Buba can say what he wants, but safety is the primary reason to stay in touch. Secondly comes communication to let your partner know you shot, you connected, you missed, you're getting down and might kick some deer etc. We used to use walkies back in the day. They're too noisy so we would set up radio "open times" the rest of the time they were off. This didn't help too much with safety if something bad happened, but it was better than nothing. Check out best buy or google some cell reception booster products. If you can get a little bar, you might be fine to text with a booster device. Remember you get what you pay for.

I think spending money elsewhere is exactly what this state deserves. You tax and tax and tax and expect us to just take it? Excluding downstate the state has been shrinking in jobs and the cost of living keeps going up. Similar to the safe act, if we don't protest somehow they'll just keep giving it to us without the lube.

the few mounters i've shot have all had a case of doe fever. the little head gets them in trouble every time haha -
hot topics will always be hot topics and repeated. Go to a car website. Chevy or Ford will never go away. Go to a pistol website. 9mm vs .40 will never go away. go to a dirtbike website 2 stroke vs 4 will never go away. Topics like that will always pop up and they belong. I have defended your political posts the whole time. It's the other 2 that annoy us.

1. how do you hunt both? they just became illegal? 2. by your logic of right to choose; should it be ok for me to hunt with dogs? Over a bait pile? with a rocket launcher or claymores? How about hunting in the spring too? Why even have regulations if we should be able to do what we choose? 3. Way to stir up a nest that needed no stirring. They're legal. get over it.
