  1. I think this is an internet forum and we're just shooting the shit. Nobody mentioned we need a rally on capital hill.
  2. I think us NY'ers have plenty of reason to fear Albany's idiotic decisions. I do know the point you're trying to make though.
  3. Yes that's how I do it. Guide and file. I'm not sure what you're saying. I obviously know that dirt is bad. It was 20 something degrees with a few inches of snow on the ground and I had my 10" electric and 20" gas. There was one stump I went in a little sideways and it just sort of happened. I really didn't want much stump sticking out on the trail. Is what it is and I can sharpen the chain that was getting close to needing it anyhow. I cut a lot of fruit trees and those bastards do a number,
  4. I was thinking about that version but saw some pretty mixed reviews. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I get your point but you mixed stuff like carbon clothes in with game farms and that’s not fair. Using tech or gadgets (within reason) on your back 40 to hunt free chase is very different than hunting a game farm. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. You bring spare shells along with your rifle? Haha just messing with ya man Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I had one of my brownings die just at the end of the year and I have 2 that say full charge and a few in the middle. I know I don’t trust the cam readings so not sure. Could be some dud batteries mixed in too. I guess my point is if you look at any transmitting camera, battery powered ones have their limits. Idk maybe talking out of my ass. 8. This is what I do for all my seasonal stuff. Battery tender brand has always been good to me. Avoid trickle charges, use a smart charger like a tender. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Yeah I have an extra and sharpen my own. Do enough cutting that I’ve gotten pretty good at it and thought about getting a nicer file like the one you linked to which looks like the sthil one Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I get it. I was on the fence when I took the leap. The entry and maintenance isn’t cheap, but mostly the ethical questions troubled me. It wasn’t till I went through a season that I realized they really didn’t alter my in the stand situation. There was once I pinged a doe at a stand to my east. This did cause me to be extra attentive to the runs in that direction. Also during mz with about 45 min of light I had a cam ping a group of does. I did think, hey why not get down and still hunt to them, but I didn’t. I just didn’t have the time or belief I’d be able to get close enough for a safe shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. The battery tech isn’t there or we already would. Right now 16 lithium AA’s can just barely get me through a year. To transmit video real time would take some serious juice and data over cellular. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. As someone who uses cell cams, they’re not this magical tool that influences your hunting real time other than to depress you when you’re in a tree and another one pings. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I see why it’s more of an issue out west with their game. I didn’t read the article but I know they’re following Arizona because guys are selling coordinates of big elk visiting watering holes. We don’t really have that issue in NY. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Spent a few more hours in the woods today hacking trails. Chains all dull now trying to cut some trees as close as possible to the ground. Didn’t look hard but still no bushy tails out even in the sun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Matt has a previous article/essay about not wanting new hunters. So on that part you're right. It's one of those things though that I think none of us want to admit to as we all know the right thing to say in public is that we want more hunters. We're stronger together etc. But if most of us are honest, I think we too would admit we wish we had more public to ourselves or that the neighbors didn't hunt or that we didn't get booted or have to lease land to hunt. It could be categorized as selfish, but it doesn't make it untrue. His point about wounding as I understood it, is that it's part of the sport, yet it's not shown on social media. So it's doing a disservice to new hunters to not show the whole deal. You're just editing and showing the good stuff. The other side to that of course is that showing too much wounding is ammo for the anti's. It's a paradox.
  16. Anybody go after small game at all yet? These weekends have been f'n cold. But if the sun pokes out the tree rats might be out.
  17. You want a real shock? Shoot a mature buck down south that weighs 115 pounds. That shit blew my mind holding his rack.
  18. In all the books, magazines and articles I've read over the years. The top tip I keep coming back with on killing big bucks is that "One must start by being in the woods hunting" to get one. Next year moog!
  19. it doesn't tell me shit until you tell me one of them is hospitalized.
  20. I've never aged a NY deer, but from what my circle "believes" I'd add 15-20 pounds to these levels for 8F and 7J
  21. lol the first response was the girth chart
  22. factor in lease or property tax... hot damn
  23. I'd be afraid to do the math on what mine cost per pound
  24. man i never would have thought there were even auctions for UTVs haha. That's a great find on your end.
