  1. out of likes. completely agree. edit, that's another thing I'd change on this forum lol
  2. I feel the same. I'd be a liar if there wasn't the occasionally year that I was jealous or wanted to be that guy when I wasn't. I also think society in general is full of those who are envious and jealous. More so than those who are not. Spend a minute on social media or watching the news for confirmation.
  3. for arguments sake and because it's the off season, your take is the exact opposite of mine. Care to elaborate on why you think every deer is a trophy?
  4. totally legal, i'm just curious if that's what he meant. no judgement.
  5. Yeah, I understand his point though. It's the blind squirrel idea. Even the worst hunter can be in the right place at the right time and if that big buck has his nose to the ground doing the stiff legged zombie walk there's little outside a bad shot that will not end in a harvested deer. Now the opposite is true for a nanny doe. All you need to do is blink and she's off blowing through the woods ruining your day. What I would say about the mature buck though is that not every novice will be in the right place at the right time to take that shot. That's where a good hunter plays the wind, picks the right time and day to hunt a stand, picks the right times to leave a stand alone, uses their woodsmanship or technology like cameras to pattern and evaluate sign. Most of us have big bucks in and around our hunting grounds and most of us on any moderately pressured land know that there's only a few days a year they come out during the day. Otherwise those bastards are pretty nocturnal. This is where you start to see a good or maybe a better term, knowledgeable and experienced hunter separate themselves.
  6. Some common curtesy for the feelings of others is fine with me, even if it seems absurd. If I met someone whose name was Richard and he asked me to call him Rich, I of course would oblige and not call him Dick. If I met someone and they asked to be referred to as They, I'd also do my best to oblige. If we want to take issue with this stuff it should be with high school and collegiate sports. That's where it's having a meaningful impact and I think some are finally starting to see that. Private organizations can do whatever the heck they want.
  7. Nobody here should ever discount the support of family. If your wife isn't on board with you spending time in the woods it's going to make your pursuit of game that much more difficult. On the same side of the coin, some have difficult family situations with an ex-wife, step kids, kids with disabilities etc. Life comes down to priorities. I think most of us would agree that family comes first and way before hunting. Some of us are fortunate and we shouldn't take that for granted. On the other side of the coin with priorities is where hunter effort comes into question. How devoted are you to off-season prep and work? A few weekends a year or are you out there all the time sacrificing watching a ball game or drinking with buddies? Because I'll dammed if I'm made to feel bad about busting my ass for habitat improvement and herd management resulting in success. I pour way to much time, money and energy into it. More than any sane person should. That's a very liberal way of thinking. This guy puts in all this work and has success and that's not fair, I want it too... except I don't want to do the work. F that. Enjoy your life, and prioritize hunting however you want, there's not a right or wrong answer there. Just don't envy they neighbor if you're not willing to put in the same amount of work as he is.
  8. I’m not so sure a rut crazed buck is that dumb and that any hunter can just get one, but I get your point. Totally agree on nanny does too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Lol dude I was joking… sort of. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I’m going to say something that’s probably unpopular and I’m the kind of guy that agrees that we all hunt for various reasons and that’s all that matters. But every deer is a trophy is bull shit. Your first deer regardless of sex or size. Of course. A deer after a tough year, a drought or in the middle of a tough time in your life? Of course. Your biggest buck, a book buck? Obviously. Heck a nice doe at the end of the year to avoid an empty freezer? Sure. But no, that 2nd doe during rifle or the 3rd 2 year old buck in as many years. No they’re not trophy’s. I thought the vibe of most on this site was that not everybody gets a trophy? And while I agree that a trophy is relative to the hunter, some deer get you fist pumping and freaking out and others don’t otherwise those trophy deer wouldn’t be trophies. To elaborate a little, it doesn’t mean that every deer isn’t special or meaningful. The first deer I killed in MS on public land from my climber with a mz is still to this day the most excited I’ve ever been and she was just an average doe for that region. Some of the meat doe I’ve shot over the last few years got the heart going and an adrenaline rush but that’s about it. Everyone’s meter is probably different but think back and think about how many fist pumps you did, how long were you shaking after the shot. How many pictures did you take and how many texts and calls did you make. My guess is that not all your harvests were equal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. My knees wobble and my heart beats so fast that I fling arrows over the backs of big bucks. What does that make me? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. It’s kinda ridiculous but it affects me none. So I honestly couldn’t care less about words on a screen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. No company is perfect I’ve had 4 pairs of mucks that have lasted long past their normal expectancy. My only complaint with mucks is that their temperature ratings are exaggerated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. On my last week of cell cams and every buck has dropped. But no desire to trudge through the snow. Maybe next weekend if we get a few inches melted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. well i can understand the vette. even pre-covid there was a long wait for those bad boys. Trucks though, as common as they are. This sucks. Lets Go Brandon!
  16. So happy right now! I took 3 samples for 3 different plots on saturday. Sent them via fedex and got the email back today from whitetail institute. At $15 a sample I think this is money well spent and maybe I'm lucky because this is old AG land or maybe it's just our soil but the pH for all 3 plots was perfect. I was fully prepared with some of the horror stories to have to buy a pallet of lime or hire a ag lime truck. Looks like I still have some minor fertilizing to do but nothing major. What have you guys seen in central NY for pH?
  17. You guys that have been truck shopping, I've been hearing that the preferred way to get your truck is to place an order. Has anyone done this and what is the lead time? My lease is up in September and I'm ok just buying it out but if I need to start placing orders instead of empty lot shopping, what kind of lead time are they giving you all? I've never placed an order, i've always bought off the lot or dealer transferred.
  18. leave the lights in and get an extra few minutes of shooting time! haha but seriously that's a good idea.
  19. I'm thinking of getting a 2 man ladder stand this year for me and my oldest and i see they make a blind. I'm tempted because that kid can't sit still lol.
  20. in your neck of the woods a hot dog is $20 so that doesn't surprise me haha it was in the 30's he said, but this was also right before covid.
  21. yep buddy just put one in a few years ago, not Olympic size or anything but a nice size with a deep end for roughly that. Of course the patio, fence, landscaping all that isn't included.
  22. 7% of $525k is $36k, that's a new inground pool haha
  23. sees an opportunity and capitalizes. I love it.
