  1. Too bad that ugly mirror didn't take out that god awe full table. What is it "Good Fellas" night at your house?
  2. Gun ranges are required to remove soil every few years due to lead. At least the ones I have been in. They also have filters and fans at the indoors ones I have been too.
  3. Ours ran great today, made up for warm temps this week in one day. Cooked down at 26-1 today. I have about 35 gallons to boil tomorrow which is a good amount for me. I am super happy that the sugar content went way up from the first cook down which was 67-1.
  4. Heard my first Spring Woodcock this morning in back of the house! Two nights ago nothing, I knew they would be in very soon. Also saw Blue birds and Red winged blackbirds.
  5. I got 5 gallons of the good stuff yesterday, if I keep this up I'll be all set in about two weeks. Several of the newly tapped trees are running great. I'll need more storage buckets at this rate!
  6. Mine hasn't run since last weekend, I bought 25 more taps and plan on running them tonight. I don't think this will be the end, its just getting started. Hopefully the sugar content increases!
  7. Larry when you OD, (not if) I call dibs on all left handed guns. Because I am a lefty it is only fair that I receive them. PS I have a truck load headed your way, enjoy.
  8. First batch of the year. I'll be into it tomorrow morning.
  9. That's what we did last year too, this year I am switching to wood and finishing it off inside over a gas burner. edit to add, last year my neighbor and I found a coupon for half price propane and used it for about 10 tanks worth combined.lol
  10. Good call, that's one of the reasons why I made the change too. I have one of these, http://www.amazon.com/Winware-Aluminum-Roast-Pan-Inch/dp/B001CIEJT2/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1456502758&sr=1-1&keywords=roasting+pan&refinements=p_n_feature_three_browse-bin%3A3088227011 and I added a tap to drain it easier. If it goes well I will add a second pan and a warmer/feeder pan.
  11. True, that family, or at least some of them, are worth a mil or two. The one has a scrap business that does well.
  12. Dang! How many taps and how much do you produce? We only run ten taps, I am just hobby syrup enjoyer. I do wish to add more each year, this year I rigged up the pan for outside cooking. Last year we did it with a propane burner outside and that was a pain. I grew up helping my dad so getting back into it as an adult is fun.
  13. They are early this year, and I am pumped. Last year we had some stay over and hatch chicks out back. This year I hope they repeat, I love sitting on my porch and listening/watching them do their dance.
  14. Roll call, who's got their tap's in and cooking. I will be cooking outside tomorrow over the fire, I have been looking forward to this since we ran out of last years Syrup a month ago. It should be a good season but who knows, certainly is off to a good start! I'll snap some sap pic's tomorrow.
  15. That's how I feel too, I couldn't do it they way they do but could live simply. When I am done making money that's on the agenda.
  16. Robin schmobin, the Woodcock are on their way! http://www.ruffedgrousesociety.org/woodcockmigration#.VtBjgmf2aM8
  17. I think some guys are not used to the idea of hunting Geese this time of year. They do seem jumpy, like they have ADD.
  18. The best are the Do pickle brand, Cant be a Dill Do pickle, no sir.
  19. I installed a Rip Cord Ace on my bow last week and the directions had me follow this method and I found it easy. I don't have a draw board but it came out perfect. Remarkably I eyeballed it to perfection and didn't have to adjust the rest after paper tuning. I served mine in after I dropped the mini nut for the football clamp and couldn't find it in the garage, lol.
  20. Funniest auto correct Growie post in a while, perhaps ever. Lmao!
  21. Here is what I would do as a complete package, First I would have the property selectively logged, meaning not clear cut but not sparingly either. With the logging would be gravel roads for the birds to pick around in and for ease of access. I would then set it up on a rotation plan to have it logged in sections every few years. Grouse do best in a diverse habitat and I have found the best numbers in forest's 9-16 years old. Of course I would make sure to have the above mentioned berries and some apple tree's too. Woodcock prefer forest made up of tree's not much more than 3" across, thick but not too thick, I plan on thinning my land this year before green up of most big tree's. The side benefit is firewood for me. Currently during cutting I leave tops and branches scattered through out, this provides cover for birds and rabbit as well, I have many already with great success. I also leave a strip of grasses uncut to create a buffer zone, again birds and other game like that including deer. Water is often over looked for birds and it is important too. Other food sources such as corns, millets, oats, buckwheat, or soybeans. Weed seeds like thistle grasses, sumac, nightshade, burdock, and rag weed are heavy seeders. Trees such as dogwood, wild cherry, and hardwoods. All the wild berries and tame berry varieties are great attractants as well as beans, sunflowers, clovers, sorghums and dandelions. Look for topics like this and more coming up on our web site and facebook. http://thebirdhuntersofnewyork.weebly.com/
  22. I am willing to bet those type of threads get nuked there.
  23. My kids have some of my old ones that my mother saved, us kids painted our initials on them so the other siblings wouldn't try to swipe them. Belo, I kinda want a late 60's early 70's truck to drive around in. Cool Hotwheels
