As stated in other threads the means which this data is calculated by mathematical assumption. Harvest numbers and age are speculative of DEC math. What about herd size/population data? I feel like the deer threads on here are like fantasy sports where people cherry pick their fav numbers and then arrange them to say my point beat yours. At least in sports there is actual measured data so maybe that was a bad example. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Location and height of the cut have a lot to do with it. A push/pull stick is key or you cut the trees farther than needed. It needs to be part of a plan not just saw-cut- violia;deer Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Why does it matter the harvest numbers were low when there was a substantial winter attrition due to record setting severity? It is okay to say they're wrong guys. Won't be all that long before we are sitting for days without seeing a deer reflecting on the good ol days. The dec does not manage deer for hunter satisfaction or herd health Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Let me present the bigger issue at hand; " how many does are there in the first place?" I agree with many of the sentiments expressed but feel most are missing the point of s management entity that has no substantial data is guaranteed to make bad moves with poke and hope approaches. As stated by others I could see this as a fluffy Trojan horse that goes nowhere beyond getting the early ml season in place. They may be understaffed but they're not doing their job well. If people don't start doing management themselves (ie ignoring the 60k doe permits for a county) and realizing management is not about towns counties or anything behind your trigger control we won't have species left. Winters are killing a ton of deer in some areas which oddly are the focus kill all the doe spots from 2010 data and 2012s deer plan. Base your decisions off your own observations. If you disagree with that approach ask anyone at the dec how many deer live in any given area/zone/whatever and how they know that... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

It is nice to see a few posts in here showing some people can think for themselves. As for those who feel the state is on top of this or doing a spectacular job- the first statement surely does not apply to you. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Gun hunters (period). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I do not care how the harvest numbers go as long as they based on what needs to happen. We have a horrid census system and a follow up turd with out estimations on actual kills. I spend tons of time in 8g and when they went 60k dmps last year it was a total wtf. Heck we keep citing the 2012-2016 deer management plan- started in 2010 and we just had two epic winters here in any back to back .... Regardless of disease, road kills or variable troubles.... Bad times are ahead and for years to come. The gun hunter fraternity is only concerned with what they can shoot- not what's there or how their choices effect anyone/anything. Venison is not a guarantee and I am so done with this is how I feed my family excuse. Prioritize boys and girls... And think for yourself as the DECs priorities is revenue not our herd Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Would consider predator or ASAT camo or grim reaper blades on trade. Cash offers are cool too Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Yes my cam. Couldn't get near the cam until some of snow melted. It's afield corner they use to cross from bedding A to bedding area B. The particular buck is a fairly good sized 3 yo. This was the last pic I had for three weeks. Not sure why he was so determined.... I sure wouldn't be. Lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Wow every guy I typically disagree with has me in total agreement. What next; a dec deer biologist that care about the herd? [emoji41] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I am trying to figure out why we aren't asking how they've decided the population of does is too high (let alone during winter).... They base so much off the take (which is nearly doubled off reported numbers) but where are the scientific census mechanisms? Let me throw out another deer theory to become fact ; it won't be long before everyone but the dec is crying there are no deer around anymore Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Thank God for that citizens task force on deer... Anyone know someone in that? Why isn't it an open forum for all? Oh yeah- people hate facts. We have that gray hunter organization that lobbies for a sept doe season on our behalf too- ten members but a direct line to Jeremy. What a joke. At Keats 7000 of the 600000 hunters got to tell albany what we all want for deer hunting too. Lol Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Find it interesting that no one mentioned the other articles related to the deer herd in that same pos magazine. Crossbow hunters called in 2200 deer and the state considered that a 4000 deer take. Huh? First years take with no data to support and they already know it's about half of what took place? Wtf?!? Next we have all of the knowledge of the worst two winters from a critical wildlife stand point I've experienced and they still follow a management plan drafted in 2010&11. Wtf again? On the website there is a faq on deer and some biologist determined that early gunfire doesn't change deer behavior. What crap is that and then they're contradicted again here in this issue. Oh yeah and how have those youth numbers grown?? Less than 1% w the Saturday gun opener but they left it. It is all about licenses. Crossbow- new license. Lazy bug buck hunter- hope w ARs. Just bring on the dollars. The dec couldn't manage a bird feeder let alone hunting. But wait over 50% percent of the male deer take is over 2.5. Love to know where that data is from and spare me with processor inventory we all know better. The dec doesn't care about the animal or your happiness as a hunter- just dollars. Mr Piatt doesn't care about the print just the subscription. Until the thinking of us as a group reaches where the ole neigh Sayers have brought themselves in this thread and push back the state will just keep saying crap as fact and dangling golden carrots for currency. All the money outdoors people out into that organization is deserving of a better interaction and product. Maybe if I get selected for the next Cornell survey they'll get that opinion to post in there advertisement filled syllabus. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Love to see how the new issue is back to the ever antiquated 2012-16 deer plan and not enough does being whacked...... Winter kill schminter kill.:: they want them all dead I guess ... Of wait if you read the cross bow article next to it which turned 2200 reported kills into 4000 it would be all multiplied by 1.8 or so [emoji15] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Looks like there may just be statewide Antler Restricts.

New hunters are new revenue- we are haggered prom dates at this point -
As this progressed I became more and more with you. Simply put hunting dollars are not appropriated enough to hunting land. Before you tell me how much land we have- base it on non mountainous (aka game rich ) areas. A few aspects are mysterious and feel they're that way for a reason. All we've heard about lately of deer management. I worked for the DEC and can tell you they do not have adequate resources or accurate methods for making any decisions with regard to deer.... But that's the species that gives them 65% of their license revenue.

No doc, not a hero. Just another opportunity for me to play devils advocate, pointing out the bullying nature of a few on here and how most members are about themselves and their agendas. It's wrong by the book; you're right. It's stupid to publish; you're right again.
