My First Deer Rifle: Remington 760
dbHunterNY replied to Splitear's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
i have my grandfather's 742 woodsmaster and growing up my dad's go to gun is a 7600 pump, which i ended up borrowing for a point in time before i got my own rifle. heck with the pump i doubled up on coyotes, 2 shots for 2 yotes. i have some nice guns but they'll never be sold. Good luck with it. -
awesome buck. i know daylight is the best light but jesus jason your work is clean. good to see 518BowSlayer asking some questions. if any of your skills rub off on another taxidermist it can only be a good thing.

yea house prices around here are crazy high. if she rented though she'll never see that money back. good for her. sounds like the decent area. some spots immediately around albany med aren't good. her location though would be bad for me i'd always be at albany ale and oyster or tipsy moose.

i'm almost certain the second word in the name started with an H.

even in Albany, NY (WMU 4J) where it's bow only they did away with the either sex bonus DMP. people were abusing it by filling the tag on adjacent WMU's where there was much more access. now if you fill DMPs they give you bonus DMPs which are only allowed to take antlerless deer.

all this rain lately has canceled action pistol matches. saving me 50-75 rounds each shoot. i wish the sun would shine though. i don't mind burning the ammo. it's what it's for!

single cut is a little pricey but I'll have to go to the source and try it out. up the road not too far. admittedly i haven't had much of their stuff because it's right here.

there's whitetail heaven and whitetail haven i guess. not sure which one is surrounding us.

i have a couple cheap stands that are okay. i have a lonewolf alpha that is the one I like the best. it's silent and has been up for years. i check it every year prior to the season. this week i'm going to take it down though just because i should. it very well might go right back up in the same tree.

Couple that made it through season and some that didn't on the KY leases. Gotta pick up some cell cams and get them put up out there ahead of this fall. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk

Good but I'm a lush more than a shush fan. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk

Agreed. Heady has a lot going on though. Really hits the taste buds from some others not so much and just confusing. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk

how's the reloading going? out of components.

staples up this way. Reminds me i have alchemist focal banger and maybe more frost in the fridge that's been like the fat kid during dodge ball picks. other beers have been getting attention.

rheostat... whatever you want to call it.... the circular pin guard or sight housing has fiber optic wrapped around it with an outer portion of the housing that is adjustable to cover or uncover that wrapped fiber to decrease or increase pin brightness with changing conditions. it's important because a pin too bright can drown out your target in low light or create a halo or star burst effect. it's the best system i've used to adjust pin brightness and i've used them all. i've done the DIY redneck electrical tape fix to cover fiber and then even used a digital push button adjustable brightness controller with battery power fiber optic light.

i forget but leases picked up early and some outfitter that started with the name Whitetail was trying to get in on the one i'll be mostly hunting.

still holding out for more 7mm-08 and keeping with what I've got. same with 30-06.
-
i just shot 75 or so rounds of that stuff at a pistol shoot. great stuff and cheap when i bought it a while ago for about half that price.

you're westchester though and don't count. all your rules are different down there. lol

happy bday

a lot of the common cartridges you have are hard to find right now.

figured i'd post an update. bunch of land leased in KY but will be hunting mostly in LaRue county Kentucky, right along the northeastern edge of a cluster of counties in KY with the highest qty of B&C entries for KY. If I tag out early I'm heading back toward home but hitting up Ohio (another 1 buck only state) for over the counter tag to hunt a big tract of state land in a B&C entry dense area for Ohio.

Deer movement advice on a large clear cut
dbHunterNY replied to left field's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
nice. seems like it's no longer wide open woods if hens are nesting there. mission accomplished. -
read the regs guide where it shows a picture for each of 3 carcass tags that are guaranteed when you purchase privileges to hunt early season with a bow, regular season with a gun, and late season with a muzzleloader. there's a large number of combinations of qty of bucks and doe you can take by seasons end. assuming you purchased all three carcass tags you can shoot up to 2 bucks by seasons end but only 1 during early season, 1 during regular season, and 2 during late season if you have both those specific tags unfilled.
