  1. Slim pickings for to go stuff. Crowler shortage I was told. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  2. So I have really no complaints with the basic reticle 3-9x40 Nikon scope I've got on my 30-06. That said I have a Leupold VX-Freedom 4-12x40mm coming in the mail. It's got CDS which I don't know how much i'll use and then the Tri-MOA reticle that has 1 MOA hash marks for elevation and windage. Any have any experience with this scope? You like it?
  3. went to our storage shed to grab some educational displays for tomorrow. for those that can make it, see you there. those that can't i'll try to take some photos.
  4. like that others said. looks awesome. we have a large pole that was for stadium little league field lights at the farm. want to do one at the house but don't really have the best spot for it.
  5. spray and many passes with discs or drags. plows of any size will just pull up crazy amounts of rocks unless you're river bottom. then it being a hay field you'll have to pick them all baseball size or bigger. maybe that's what you were getting at with plowing. small 4' tiller if you have access to one would work too.
  6. i agree to hash it out with him. it depends on what he's doing with the hay. feeding it out to his own livestock or selling it. we sell hay to people with anything from goats, to horses, to petting zoo animals. if it's older ground something even like straight alfalfa would even work. deer won't eat forage rye and something like sorghum might not be something he wants planted. heads would get cleaned off anyway leaving nothing for the deer other than screening if that's useful for whatever your situation is there. all our hay fields are just timothy, brome, and alfalfa mix. not sure what you could do other than maybe plant cereal rye. he could still bale that and mix it in. if storing it in small bales the mice tend to wreak havoc on natural twine vs synthetic string.
  7. beats the heck out of me. spraying on the neighbors during a windy day? some corn fields get sprayed later with a high lift sprayer.
  8. Can't speak for others but all counties encompassing the area of our NDA (QDMA) branch out here are opted in; Warren, Washington, Saratoga, and Rensselaer counties. Big acceptance across the state so I can see it becoming law in the future vs a BS pilot program with a sunset clause.
  9. too much going on this morning. missed another Saturday morning line to get local Fiden's beer. Maybe next Saturday.
  10. sounds like it could be awesome. like the glass too.
  11. exactly. i'm on some pistol competition pages on social media. others shooters always posting CCI putting up ammo for first thing in the AM but as a NYer it means nothing to me.
  12. we don't get many bucks until hard antler. getting some with beams though.
  13. i know what you mean. when vegetation gets unruly sometimes you've got to use a 90HP weed eater. lol
  14. I went from spring steel like the doghouse blinds to hub style and will never go back. I admit they were cheap and served the need. Even once I was proficient at folding them up right it was still a pain though and no room for bow or 2 people with camera tripod. Plus blinds I've found need to be left up a little while or some deer just get all bothered. Like Dave said material is thin and sketches under heavy rain or snow load. Also brush can tear up that thin material in a hurry. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  15. Lunch. Leftover shrimp scampi and fried butterfly shrimp. Love shramp! Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  16. trail cams for me seem to be a way to stay plugged in while I'm totally absent during the work week. i typically rely on word of mouth and talking with surrounding neighbors about what might be taken off the table to hunt a specific property, another tool. it all helps me hunt what's there, not just sit in a good spot and hope.
  17. forget genetics. i've never seen a middle aged or mature buck that makes a hunter unhappy. it's good to have those selective neighbors around! lol
  18. a couple decades ago in highschool i had every deer patterned that was in the area to the point I knew exactly where they'd be up until the rut shuffled things up. i worked outside on the farm and was out scouting without any trail cam for many hours during the week though. with busy life now, work, and kids i don't know how i'd focus my efforts and be nearly as productive at targeting specific bucks without them.
  19. lots of construction numbers floating around in my head. just noticed I had a brain fart or something. they are a 501c3. anyway if anyone shows up, I'll see you there.
  20. Yes. They expanded from a group on FB, to a nonprofit 503C and have setup shop at the old Grafton Elementary school. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  21. We'll have a booth at an event that's this Sunday 6/27. It's Capital District Sportsman Center grand opening. There will be food, sporting goods vendors, and all kinds of outdoor stuff. There's even going to be a live band. 13 Babcock Lake Rd., Petersburg, NY. Event lasts 12-4pm. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  22. 4 years ago I had one on cam that looked massive with bases during velvet. Hard antler he was a bit skinnier hard antlered. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  23. sounds like you're set. if you have reservations i'd look for precision hunter and the bowhunter model shafts too. only difference is the straightness. honestly somedays i can and somedays i can't tell the difference between 0.001" and 0.006" tolerances. especially at 40 yards and in from a well tuned bow. if you switch to another brand, even Easton, your nock type and fit won't be the same or your grain per inch for weight will be different. spine others match.
  24. hard to say for multiple reasons. overall proportions covered by a lot of vegetation. also it's the off season. a buck can look like a 2.5 yr old now but come mid November he looks like the Hulk. even chest depth and where the neck connects can be deceiving now. as GMan posted velvet bucks look really heavy antlered too but not so much with hard antler.
  25. great buck. looks awesome. congrats again.
