I'm almost 32 years old so i'll use the word "we". each generation is expected to be better than the next; perform better, come up with better ideas or tangible things to make it all work, etc. we start steps in life later like kids, marriage, and a career, due to the greater requirement for additional education. so now we're scrambling to catch up back up and more is expected to be accomplished by a certain age. with technology invented to speed things up even more life is not as slow. now with photo shop and media things are easy spread like wild fire as if true and easily contorted to be believed. we're some how supposed to have super natural insite and bull*** detector skills to decipher what is truth and what it not. so you could say things are a bit more complex and potentially problematic. along this path to survive and function while still enjoying life it's easy for us to get numb to some things or be over sensitive to others. doesn't make it right but whenever it's a big deal it's because of those that "can't deal" more than the rest of us. the world will never be a perfect place and sometimes change is a trial and error process. there's always going to be bad apples that make the bigger picture seem doomed. don't compare us. use honest encouragement and maybe the numbness will lift, and we'll weed out the bad apples or probably at least keep them from screwing anything up but themselves at most.

wife and I have been together for 10.5 years to the day and married for 3 years. happy anniversary to you.

haven't watched the whole video yet. just haven't gotten around to it i guess. it's important to understand that despite not understanding some concepts or understanding that some might not apply to your situation in the exact same way. you can still use the rest that makes sense and apply it. eventually you learn more and more. a vast majority don't have enough property for doe to stay exclusively on their property. i can makeup their home range though. you can start to pattern a doe group based on recorded observations kept in a log. it'll help you look back and connect the dots. even if you're in big woods there's still pockets of browse. knowing which browse species deer prefer to can work off that and work backwords. that could tell you if you have too many deer whether you're seeing many or not. most of a deers food source is browse so not having a food plot or ag field doesn't mean there's less food for them.

perfect good luck. shoot with someone better and ask for help. most will gladly tell you what works for them. try it out.

I was in a car accident and then did something to messed up my release arm shoulder. I saw a PT. he and I were completely honest with one another. he basically told me it might seem like little weight and not worth my time but to stay with it. he said most think they're better and stop too early or push too much and do more harm than good. I did exactly as he said. I'm young at almost 32, but I went from not even moving a 60lb string to now I could pull more than 70lbs from the baddest speed bow out there if I wanted to. no one is above an injury.

There is no right or wrong for survey results. They are what they are. It wasn't necessarily a waste. Would we rather they did whatever and asked for forgiveness later? I think they were expecting some data to support at least some direction opposed to split down the middle. I think the way some surveys were tossed could've effected the results but in what way there's no way of knowing. I wouldn't consider it botched though.

GRST QDMA 2015 Field Day

as of right now it doesn't look like we're making the trip. -
can't watch the video right now but he started great.... first thing is holding capacity/habitat. after that it's maintaining those numbers and sustaining the habitat. there's a lot of factors that can come into play but you can shoot to many and in some areas it's hard to understand that you're not shooting enough. anything from doe herd age structure, year round observation, browse surveys, etc. all kinds of stuff to tell you if you need to shoot more or less. most are just focused on their little honey hole though and can't get around the fact that doe harvest is always approximate and doesn't have to be an exact number. hard to think that way though when you're trying to decide if you should take 1, 2, or 3 doe each season.

this would seem to be your best bet if affordable. otherwise hope hill and willow stables are the only ones I knew of. never been to either of them though. not really my home range.
-
that's friggin awesome! nice job joe.
-
yea funnels work. shot most of my deer from funnels.
-
how far and what lens were you using? seems like you got in close to them well enough. great pictures.

same endeavor here. I've figure out you tend to setup different and definitely watch more deer walk.

GRST QDMA 2015 Field Day

will rally the group and see if we're going. about a 3.5 hour drive so not sure. -
hypos good for an accidental shoulder blade, but I'm surprised you don't use Xtremes for a bigger cut with that much horsepower.
-
I do use nitrile gloves. toss them and the messy knife in a zip loc that had about 10 shop wipes in it. if you don't use gloves that fatty residue from organs stays on your hands and gets under your nails. less time washing up before sitting down at the table for dinner.

I've started from the sternum and got blood over more than I needed to. For deer I'm not carrying butt-out tools and multiple knives and all kinds of crap that I don't want to carry. I use a small Lansky pocket knife that's crazy sharp and about 4" long opened at the very most. start where the stomach is for the most part. skin is looser. pinch a good chunk of it to get it away from every thing and make a 2" incision, front of the deer to the back. Then I guide and feel my way to open every up with my index finger on the back side of the blade. I've never cut myself or the stomach this way. doesn't zip hair at all and is nice and smooth cutting from the inside out. make a nice horizontal slice along the top of diaphragm (bottom of the deer). then I cut around and zip-tie off the rectum and any other opening that's there (doe). make sure you find the bladder/pee sack. if you can't it's probably empty so you're ok. next when removing the udder or dude parts I leave as much skin as possible on the inner hind quarters to protect the better meat of the deer, and I don't split the pelvis. I look to see if the udder is dry, not dry, or drying (milk). turn it on its stomach with legs splayed out to let it all drain. then I pull it all out the rest of the way make a few cuts as need be. I don't really split the chest either and leave the heart attached still in there. everything else is gone, including the liver. I hate liver. system has served me well for a couple decades now.

of course if he has good insurance and can go in for a PT consultation that'd be ideal.
-
maybe I should've said it different. I agree googling random PT exercises isn't a good idea in that context. however, with his problems I'm sure he's already seen one for his specific issues. if he's anything like the rest of us he's lost the papers explaining each exercise but still remembers the different types he did and for what. googling them will kick the rust off the memory and make sure he's still going to do them right.

I have an old college roommate that lived on erie st. in Tonawanda. never saw any deer around there but north Tonawanda starts to turn into more broke up wood lots. near the intersection of 190 and 290 seemed to be a little less dense with more trees I remember.
-
now this is doing their part. perfect setup. never know when a giant will come running through with a handful of doe. within some inner circles of hunters who hunt burbs word travels of big bucks but sometimes they just aren't talked about. just another deer eating landscaping or a garden. spots that produce deer will continue to do so if hunted correctly.

a realtree and CVA prostaffer that I know shoots the Barnes Expanders last I knew.

if you went through what you said with your shoulders and neck gaining strength back is only half of it. from being laid up you probably lost range of motion. so I'd work on that too. googled PT exercises are fine just remember to not over do it. Way back when I saw a PT doc. he said slight soreness and aching might be fine but should go away after a couple hours or less. discomfort should go away immediately or within 10 minutes. if this isn't the case you're pushing too hard. I think more people don't realize the damage they can do to there shoulders with a 70 lb bow even if they don't have difficulty drawing it.
-
good luck... not sure hardly anyone would pass him up but just imagine if he was wary enough and makes it through another year? you never know but with that much change in growth he could blow up again.

I believe my savage is 1:9 and it takes to 60gr bullets pretty well. federal fusions also aren't a bad bullet at all.
