  1. with watching other better shooters or a pro. keep in mind they'll all do things a little bit different, like anchor points. all the concepts and basics are the same though. it's important to figure out what feels comfortable to you. your form should also be something that for you is the easiest to repeat over and over. at the end of the day it doesn't matter if what you're doing is completely ass backwards compared to the guy next to you as long as the above applies. still be open to new ideas though. a vast majority of the time you won't know if something will improve your shooting until you try it. results will show if anything is making things better or worse.
  2. I haven't seen anything concrete that'd protect age groups beyond 2.5 years old either. for protection of 1.5 year olds are co-op restriction of 15" outside spread seems to be doing well from what we and other ones have seen. I think that puts you around 18-19" for beam length. I believe high grading does happen like with the example of MS where you've got state wide ARs for a decade or more. it's a small amount that I think is very slightly skewed to look worse. data is based on harvested bucks. consequence of it's design more bucks will be harvested closer to very minimum antler size that falls within the restrictions. where as before, more choice leading to buck harvest may have made the data look a little different. I do think it high grading happens though. on bigger intensively managed ranches culling smaller antlered deer works to make bigger antler averages. always shooting the biggest antlered buck for a given age will only do the opposite. for your average hunter chasing free range deer the concepts aren't nearly as applicable. with long term goals in mind it's something a state should think about.
  3. yea any wood and even laminates will swell from being out in the weather too long too wet. also changes in temperature make them change. might effect your zero in some cases by more than enough to matter.
  4. I take everything in after the season. It saves money as the stands last longer. also if left out, some start to make noise and as others said get rusty in spots that might make them unsafe at some point that's not obviously apparent.
  5. rusting is a big deal. you don't want pitting from rust inside your barrel. outside looks bad and once it starts you really have to get it completely off or it'll continue to work into your barrel over the years. if you take care of it you're fine. I like stainless barrels better and seems I've had better accuracy with them. take care of it and it won't matter what you've got.
  6. Sweet Baby Ray's Signature Dipping Sauce is good on them too I just found out.
  7. I've got about 40 packages of bigger dogs with 6 dogs to a pack. half are venison smoked dogs. the other half is stick dogs with cheese. it's basically venison hot dogs with cheese but instead of the hot dog seasoning snack stick seasoning is used.
  8. one I did should be and the other shouldn't be. the architectural one should definitely be left back at the university in the professor's security key pad locked office wing. it was a tangible thing someone could call home that could be used by FEMA, DHS, and CIA ...for good reasons or bad. another one that was probably all good and cool more in line with my engineering degree was Barker code use for analyzing eclipsing with radar. eclipsing is basically when radar pulses are so far apart that is misses the object it would normally pick up. .......government has their hand in everything.
  9. only once.... I watched a button buck get plowed into by a car. conveniently for me contact was just made in the head, so it wasn't blood shot and messed up inside. I feel it was a lot of work for the very little I got off it (only from being a fawn).
  10. I don't reload ammo... yet. so nothing fancy caliber wise. various guns in the following calibers. .22LR .223 Rem .30-30 Win .30-06 .300 Win Mag 9x19mm Para .50 (muzzleloader... so don't come kick down my door) ...oh yea. I NEED everything else.
  11. it's not uncommon for professors to encourage research or projects that analyze some off the wall concept or fictional scenario. I found this out when I went to college. for an "architecture behavior and design" class the final project I pretty much had to do was a bit screw up. if you can turn something nuts and/or ridiculous into good conclusive, analytical, research then it proves you're most likely capable working on something a little more realistic with concepts you can easier wrap your head around.
  12. I've known people to use all kinds of fish. I've never really made it but I've had some really good bowls in my life. I'll have to be bold and ask.
  13. even with one-piece rings if you lap them it helps. I've always been a fan of Talley mounts and rings. see no reason DNZ wouldn't work either.
  14. take them to a shop and they'll figure out what the best option is. hard knowing exactly what you've got and what you need.
  15. yea I get it. I was thinking last year it was the second Saturday in Nov but it wasn't as the first fell on the first Saturday. also it's occurred to me that it's probably always on the third Saturday in November.
  16. yea that's no good. seems like he's healthy now but kind of weird how they're still dormant in his body.
  17. with a 6.5 month gestation that'd put breeding in May ....a bit late. I'm sure it's messed up down there but idk I'm not down there to confirm it's that messed up.
  18. haven't thought about it. how are you working it out mathematically or know it's the third Saturday in November? I mean it says 23 days following the third Saturday in November on the DEC site for future dates, that's the only reason I would know.
  19. you can buy ammo any place. nothing saying you can't bring it back either. I haven't heard of it being a problem there.
  20. the article did distinguish between down there and up here. lastest we've seen is fawns with spots in late September into first part of Oct. By mid Nov they didn't have visible spots but still are only a couple months old which still isn't good. winter coat not fully in I can maybe see. spots idk haven't seen it but I can't say it could never happen. I wouldn't say it'd be the norm opposed to more what we've seen.
  21. it has to do with the bacteria in there stomach changing to digest what they're eating at the time which is woody winter browse. it takes eating something for a couple weeks for them to finally be able to pull nutrients from it. not normally a problem as changes in food sources between seasons during the year take time. read the article/link I posted above.
  22. they nibble at the bark and little buds, at the ends of any branch or brush.
  23. I'm not sure what you meant by segregation but if doe are kept from bucks somehow then I could agree. mild winters I'm not sure have much to do with breeding. unless you're talking a doe fawn getting up to weight to come into estrous due to the mild winter. i don't think that applies to adult doe. Aside from that, I've been with the understanding that photo-period (changes in the length of daylight in each day) is what causes the stages of the rut to kick in. is that what you mean, idk maybe we're on the same page? the "...including fawns" part threw me off is all. I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got anything wrong.
