  1. looks like a good trip so far.
  2. or less. there's been many 250+lbs out of this camp. even a handful knocking on the door of 400lbs. down the road another outfitter uses dogs and theyve gotten multiple 500lbers but with dogs you can go to them and pull dogs off a small bear to look for another one.
  3. long live the monarchy.... just not here. lol in all seriousness you've got to respect that she got shit done and ruled into her 90's. hope harry got to see his grandma. shaky choices didn't always have them on the same page but still his grandma.
  4. not really to the extent you're changing bow module or cam settings for half inch adjustment. i've never had to change mine aside from micro adjustments in d-loop length and your anchor points might change. nose and corner of mouth will still be two of them but getting another with the hand held somewhere on your jaw might make you move a little up or down the string for something that's repeatable. (edit) ...also with what i said your peep position might change.
  5. as TCIII said they're way better. 98% of the index trigger releases have a ridiculous amount of creep with the the sear. you have to ride it out using just preload with your finger followed by backtension. cheap handhelds you'll gain nothing from but good (more expensive) ones like Stan, Carter, or some of the TRU Ball releases have a crisp break with not a lot of travel. similar to a good rifle trigger. problem is if you drop them from a stand or on something hard they're garbage and no longer work.
  6. nice. i should be getting my buck from last year back soon.
  7. i'm a novice when it comes to bear but if my recent bear hunt in Maine taught me anything it's that you can't judge a live bears weight worth a damn. bear shot in camp was 185 due to lack of fat. both outfitter and hunters with over 20+ yrs of experience thought it was going to be around 250lb. scales don't lie though.
  8. buddy had a moose in near north hudson rubbing a tree mid august. i'm sure i'll get some pictures of bucks when i get to my cams at the farm in the next day or two.
  9. yea switching to BH209 i don't use them anymore. CCI 209M and a 1/8" drill bit turned by hand in my TC Prohunter breech plug to keep good ignition.
  10. nope. i did a google search and i'm not sure they were at all close. we were in allagash, ME up by the canadian border. about a 30 minutes WSW of Fort Kent. Allagash Wildlife Sporting Camps (Bobby Hafford) is were we stayed.
  11. seemed like there were a lot of red squirrels around. all i heard most of the time.
  12. sounds like you're good if they all shoot the same. when i used 50 and 30 gr 777 pellets I used Remington Cleanbore, winchester 777 primers. they both had good accuracy with certain loads but depending on how much powder or pellet i was using there was a difference on how much fouling was left or perceivable crud ring. winchester 777 209s seem a bit hotter or more of a louder pop. Remingtons worked great too though.
  13. Crazy how deep we were. driving 1-2 hours into "northwoods". Then after you hear your guide drive off on the distance it's crazy silent. At times the ringing in your ears is louder than anything else. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  14. So it was hot 80-90 degree heat. Aroostook County in Maine had the worst season in 20+ years. Typically they down 250+ bears the first week of the baiting season and they were only at 50 something checked according to wildlife staff reports. The county is 6,800+ sq miles big! My hunt went better than half the others in camp as I at least saw bears. Nothing for me as whatever cam in was either a sow or cub. No boars. One guy in camp of 14 hunters did take a 185lb sow that was dried up and therefore fair game. Saw lots of moose. Both cows and bulls. I got busted by one deer and also saw lots of Grouse and woodcock. Great trip though. We did some canoeing and kayaking down the allagash and st John rivers. Huge 40+" muskie. Shouldve ponied up for fishing license. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  15. Some that were drank in camp on the bear hunt last week. Eveyday coors light and Pabst BR. I bought a pile of Fidens beers, Kentucky homebrew shine, and bourbon County 2020 Camilla (carmel apple pie flavor) Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  16. Forget the rest... the tots look killer. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  17. Only time I do is when i have my rangefinder that's 6x and im bowhunting. Still they're in the truck and definitely way better for low light. Even in timber or cover when theyre close, optics give you a better view of what you're looking at. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  18. It's been on my mind this whole time. I'm a bowhunter first. I have my grandfathers gun though that recently passed. Before he did its always sat in the safe, but now I'm pretty set on using it. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  19. Definitely go far for a free meal. Hell they can smell it from the next county over. I've hunted deer over bait twice which hasn't impressed me. Both times I was better off ditching the pile of bait. It'll be a different experience which is why I'm doing it. You might be right about numbers. I just read that Maine has over twice as many bear taken compared to NY in a season is all. Pretty dependent on natural food available each season though. This year being a drought I'm thinking bears should be hitting bait pretty hard. I have my reservations about big bears being more visible because of that though. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  20. Definitely. Bringing a remington woodsmaster 742 for fair weather and nostalgia. Also bringing my browning abolt that's normally my primary hunting rifle. Both 30-06. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  21. I buy up 7mm08 Hornady custom lite stuff when I see it on rare occasion. Shoots subMOA out of a compact rifle I bought from a forum member and use for NDA Field to Fork program hunters who've never shot a rifle before. I never know when it'll be available again. I also see it far more than federal stuff. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  22. So none of my 30-06 rifles shoot a that well with Hornady eldx ammo despite I've gotten that ammo to shoot great in other rifles. Switched back to federal fusion (bonded) 150gr for this bear hunt. Got it dialed in dead on at 50 yards and real close to 200 yards for a zero. Pic is last shot at 50 yards. Wanting to bring a safe queen Remington 742 that was my grandfathers but it didn't shoot well with either of that ammo. Another trip to the range to dial in a backup 7mm-08 or see if the 742 will like green box core-lokts i have for my dad's gun better. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
  23. if you're inclined to ask then you probably don't want to know. lol
  24. nothing out right now unless maybe you saw it in a gun shop but not likely. i'd get a hold of someone who reloads that you know and trust.
  25. be sure to report sightings to DEC.... https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/fe7ec92ebf7b45bf8e11a295bf83117e
