Do you shoot 100 grain or 125 grain broadheads and why?

180 gr Silverflames - cause they tune the best to my set-up. -
Good job. I got to help my nephew with a couple in the next few days.

Point being is as far as I know, no latititude as far north as NY has had a hog population become the type of problem that they can and have become in the the hotter southern climates that allow year round production of huge litters. They have been reported in the Cortland/Homer ( I live and hunt 10 miles from there) area for going on 10 years and seeing one, let alone shooting it is still extremely rare. There appears to be a small sustaining breeding population, but have come no where close to being a problem. No one I know of can target them and even count on even finding sign. Point is using Texas to anticipate a huge problem here has proven to be ineffective.

And yet not of them can hold their own with the compounds on a 45 yd and under 3D competition. Why is that? Amazing? And you can visit Archerytalk for multiple threads on taking shots at game at distances of 60 yds plus with their compounds. Many admit to be willing to shot at 80 yds or more regularly. And there was a thread recently on when the a 150 yd kill will be posted. Several talked of their "ability", willingness and confidence to shoot 100 yds plus at game as they can hold vital area groups at that distance. Amazing isn't it.

The IBO crossbow class shoots kneeling braced. When shooting the same courses as the compounds, they don't come close to keeping up on the average.

My primary hunting bow is a 58" DAS recurve that I draw and shoot comfortably at 29" - 54#'s. Many recurves have draw force curves that remain the same to 30" or more. Others will start stacking at their marked wght. I have shot Fedora's at 52" that, because of their limb design, had no stack or finger pinch. I have shot other bows of up to 64" that had both. All that said, it is often easier for many to shot a longer bow as they tend to be a bit more forgiving.

Deer can and will often run more then 250ft when hit. Therefore you would need permission to recover from the landowners outside the 4 acres or it couldn't be hunted responsibly. Point is regardless of the legal distance, hunting smaller properties requires prior permission of the neighbors anyways if a hunter wishes to avoid confrontations and be able to recover their deer. The current 500 ft setback does not render any property unhuntable for any hunter planning to recover their deer and not just kill it.

There is a tendency for the crews in around us not to be concerned with permission and the like.

Ohio has crossBOWS in archery. Thought you didn't like them?

New law establishes antler restrictions in a part of WMU 3A

Without before for or against it, I absolutely hate that the legislature is attempting management. They are even further removed from the real needs then what many feel the DEC is. -
Said it, but failed to back it up in any way but hearsay, rumor and speculation.

I'm a bowhunter 1st. Still want to see you post the proof of your claimed "reality and fact".
-
Post the proof - not your opinion - that the % of deer wounded by gun is routinely higher then bow. A link would be nice

More ethical??? Too easy - I'll let someone else take it.

Insurance companies actually care little. They write policies based on anticipated loss and adjust rates accordingly in areas of higher collisions. They don't lose money paying a claim - its all factored into the cost.
-
Please let us know how many are shooting successfully at 300 yds and more with an inline - even with the Savage smokeless (no longer made). Heck, I'd like to even see the list of those doing it at 200 yds.

Your favorite hot sauce...not neccessarily hot

Got a new one. -
WNY - they don't back it with numbers because there are none to support them. Most every bow/mz season hunter I know applies for the dmp now and pays the $10. Continuing to do so will not increase revenue. Even if the few who have opted out of the dmp's because of the fee come back, the increase will be minimal at best. Where is this "cash cow" with the huge windfall motivation alleged by some to be the sole reason - or even a major factor - of the DEC proposal going to come from if most are already buying the dmp's?
-
Your bow will shoot 50 and farther - just need to learn it. I regularly PRACTICE to 80 yds with my 53# recurve and 450gr arrows. Don't shoot dimes, but am on the target face.
-
Got mine about a week ago. Going for dmp's this week.

Thanks! I used the big cages and my tomato plants are beating them. Going to try freezing some zuc's this weekend before they bury me.

There are few true accidents - hunting or driving. Most all are actually incidents that can and should be avoided. Statistically we are far more likely to be injured driving to our hunt then actually hunting. Like with driving, I use common sense and defensive tatics but spend little/no time worrying about "what ifs".

Put the strap as high as you need to to have it fell almost snug when sitting. Then practice moving for shots until it becomes 2nd nature which it will.
