QDM Meeting with Neighbors
Four Season Whitetail's replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
This was kind of my point in another post. QDM is just TDM for most. It would take an awful lot of land to practice either and do it right. You would also have to have 100% control on what happens on that large piece of property. Lee and Tiff and a couple others on tv are good examples. Large pieces of land under their control. They work for the largest bucks a property can give(TDM) and they use the same practice as QDM to get there. -
QDM Meeting with Neighbors

Pretty simple. Give the area an AR law and the people not involved in the qdm program cant shoot the spikes and other little guys before their second birthday. More yearlings saved = more two year olds for the qdm members. -

I agree to a point but if the landowners that are in the middle of all these coming 2 years olds like to shoot any legal buck they see it will be a tough go of it. if the landowner in the middle has the better food and draw for the deer they will kill alot of those deer before they see their second birthday. Now if this land in all wrapped up in an AR area then there is a much better chance of success. -

Contiguous ares would have to be the bigger part of success. If not the people in the middle are going to love shooting the 2yr olds your letting walk. It will not hurt for sure but real tough to do without a big,big piece of land. -

Sorry to hear this news. We all only get to meet one or two of those very special people in our lives and most times its only those few six years or so that we get to know them. We have our friends and family and then we have those couple special people.

QDM Meeting with Neighbors

No Doubt. I am in the same boat also. I myself am after the biggest brute in the woods. Regardless of age! I know many think qdm but are really practicing tdm. Either way, if you are out there improving the land and caring for the herd you are making a positive impact. -

Qdm is one thing but for alot of hunters its more about Tdm that really matters. A few will say its all about a mature animal but for the most part many more will wake up every November morning wanting the biggest racked buck in the woods. Regardless of age! -
QDM Meeting with Neighbors

QDMA is just mindset really. Its really just farming and having harvest rules. I dont believe 1000 acres is enough. I know 720 is not. They still leave the farm on a breeze. They scream doe harvest and in some areas of the state the worst thing you could do is take a doe. Real tough to do but sure wont hurt your age group of bucks if you can get other hunters to play along. If you are in one of the soon to be AR zones you will have some help there as far as buck ages. Land care is farming and smart land use as far as where, when and how you hunt. Spring should be here soon! Well maybe after this next 10 inches of snow thats on the way! -
Was thinkin the same thing myself. I have to say after a few posters ruin a place it gets less and less of a place a person wants to visit. Same old,Same old! Not that Growie didnt get along with everyone. lol

Yeah good advice. Or maybe he should just get himself an Xbow and carry on with his bow hunting. lol

Great pics as always. Yeah can you imagine trying to survive living and searching for grub out in that world. Unreal...

Yes Sir, Been telling us it was going to wipe out our herds now for like 50 years . It sure has kept alot of people in jobs over the years. There should not be a Whitetail in any state that has ever had cwd by their accounts. Some of the white coats now say it could take up to 100 years to show its true colors. Back in the 80's it was todays hunters that would be seeing the rath of cwd and no herds. Funny how when cwd hits a state, their numbers grow and then they say its because of cwd that they have to get the numbers back down. Now just how can that be?

60,000 of the people that like to look at them but the same 60 that dont have to deal with their crap of the damage they do on the land or farm crops per say. End up like the white snow rats that land up here by the thousands and ruin a field in one day or ruin their habitat of the flyways. Whatever it takes to keep them under control will work.

Whats your point? Its spreading in Ill. Virginia,Maryland and other hotspots its in. Funny part is, is that still no proof of how its getting spread. The part i just cant wrap my brain around is how in the world can a deer herd GROW in numbers when the herd is infected with a disease that was said that once a herd gets it the whole herd is doomed. Now after being in these states for 15 to 20 years you would think that if this crap was as bad as they want some to believe it is there would be no deer left to hunt. Period! Every state that gets it also gets in the record books to top end mature record bucks taken each year and their total harvest numbers sure dont show a huge decline in the total numbers of deer killed that would show with states that have a huge deer disease. Wisconsin will give the hunters the green light to kill every deer in sight...Just like they did 12 years ago and the so called diseased herd rebounded with even higher numbers of deer a couple years later.. and the herd will rebound in no time. Remember just like feeding the deer, Mother nature will take care of her own. Oh on another note..Did you hear the news out of the Iowa cwd case where the state shut down the ranch? Round 1 in court goes to the high fence ranch. Great news! Im sure you will see it in your searches sometime soon.

1 spring tom with no fall season. I do not see a shortage problem in our neck of the wood's. If anything, their numbers are up and deer are down.

Need a way to get across a creek
Four Season Whitetail's replied to martinhunter12's topic in Deer Hunting
I used long pieces of railroad tracks. Used longer pieces than needed, lay 4 to 6 side by side and then a couple walking sticks to keep the balance as you walk across. Ours is only maybe 12ft across or so but very fast and high with ice in the spring. They have been down for years now with no problems. -
I'm sure they all know more than we do when it comes to some of the hunting stuff. Maybe they know the heads up of some of the new laws coming down from the state? Sales may be down big time and they can make more money on the weekend warrior/camper yuppies that like to do their thing. I know my and many i know spending for hunting stuff has dropped big time. I mean by now we have everything there is to be needed for hunting..ie.Bows,guns and such and its a fact that there are not as many new hunters so the sales are down there big time also. Then we have the online thing. I myself spent over $700 the last couple weeks from ordering things online. Times are a changin!!!
