  1. By far the best hunting channel on Youtube that I follow has to be The Hunting Public. These boys are pleasure to watch. For those of you that don't know the channel, they basically hunt just public land and are very informative and do things the old fashioned way. No fancy sponsors, scent control sprays, etc. They used to be part of Midwest Whitetail but took off to do their own channel. They are currently hunting up in Minnesota with some other guys that hunt public and its just great to watch the different tactics. They basically get in as tight to bedding areas as they can and don't freak out when they bump a deer. They have a great turkey tour they did last spring as well. Just thought I would share in case anyone wants to pass a few hours getting pumped up on some excellent public deer hunting before the opener.
  2. Why did they need to break both windows? People are just mean.
  3. Great place to hunt if you love ticks too.
  4. Will do! Thanks for all the tips. And hopefully I'll have some good stories and pics to share.
  5. He's a good podcast host. Asks really good questions and does his homework. Regardless of what you think of him, his guests are good and do most of the talking. This podcast was actually pretty scary when you start to hear the facts about CWD.
  6. Wow. Thanks for the pictures. I'm going to take a bunch and post as I go along. I'm getting one of those digiscopes for my binos. Did you find you did a lot glassing compared to walking to locate elk?
  7. Unit 34 down in southern New Mexico. Should be into a lot of elk from what I’m hearing. It’s only a 5 day rifle season down there so I can’t lose a day not feeling well.
  8. Thanks for the advice. It’s been great incentive to keep in shape. I’ll definitely post pictures. My other issue has been my shooting. I’m bringing my 7mm rem and have trying out a few different cartridges. Probably going to shoot 162 gr Hornady ELD-X but my bigger issue is finding a place to shoot long distance for practice. Largest range within 2 hours is 200 yds.
  9. Finally drew a New Mexico rifle tag for elk this season. Elevation in the Unit I'll be hunting goes up to about 9500 ft. Anyone have any experience at those altitudes coming from NY? I've never been that high up and don't what to ruin a hunt with altitude sickness. Going to get there about a day and a half early to try and get acclimated a bit. I've ramped up the workouts but I think that will only help so much. Also, if anyone has any other advice about hunting NM, let me know.
  10. I had read that they were doing well also. But then it makes me wonder why I get a different "flash sale" or other promotion basically everyday now in my junk email account which hadn't really been the case in the past. I guess that goes hand in hand with the increased internet sales posted earlier. We'll see with their next quarterly posting.
  11. Unless I'm looking for a specific type of sound, I sometimes pick up a package set (like a 3 pack with different cuts) and see what works/sounds the best and take it from there.
  12. I have a 2016 Tahoe that I love. Wife drives it fine but wont drive it if parking is going to be tight. We have a second kid on the way (just in time for opening day turkey) and I'm not sure how its going to work with two car seats. Third row isn't really much to brag about, due to the short wheelbase on the Tahoe compared to the Suburban. I also have a bench seat in the back but two bucket seats seems like it would have made more sense now that I think about it.
  13. Just sharing. I came across this in the news yesterday and found it interesting as it was actually caught on camera. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/northfield-illinois-coyote-attacks-family-dog/
  14. Phade, have you heard anything about a Verizon 4G Spartan GoCam coming out?
  15. Call your accountant also. He will most likely recommend an LLC for various reasons completely separate from the reasons your attorney recommended it especially if you have a partner or if you plan to generate any income from it.
  16. I think you guys just got baited. Pun totally intended.
  17. I have an HSS as well. I had been using the one that came with my Summit but one time a few years back I had the leg strap (which is long enough to wrap around an elephant's leg) get caught on the side by side's rear axle. I would have qualified for one of those Darwin Awards and set hunter perception back about 20 yrs.
  18. I have on on an elevated platform that the squirrels like to make nests in. Basically turned it into a condo. Good idea to take a peak in before you step into a blind that's been out there for a bit.
  19. i have a summit and for the most part it's awesome. It gets a little heavy on longer walks and and the size makes it difficulty at times walk steeper terrain as the teeth catch my pants behind the knees sometimes. I replaced the straps and attached them as low as possible so that the climber sits as high as possible on my back.
  20. I've run them in the summer as long as its was not too hot and only in the morning but I think its more me not being able to handle the bugs and the heat. If I do I usually don't run them for more than an hour and as long as it is cool. I mainly run them to get them into shape as they tend to get a little plump and need to build up their endurance prior to opening day.
  21. I saw two hens with about ten poults yesterday morning so things are looking a little better here in southern columbia county.
  22. Phade, can you put up a few more night time pics? I'd like to see the quality of objects a little further out and possibly on the move. Thanks.
  23. My only issue with my QAD has been if I haven't shoot it for a while, it has, on two or three occasions, gotten stuck on me with that first shot. I'm guessing from lack of use it got a little tight. Now I manually pull back the rest to lock position and let it quickly release manually before i put an arrow in it. Problem solved. This may just be on my rest as I haven't heard of it happening to anyone else.
  24. That's the excuse I give my wife. "I can only hunt til' noon.. I'll be home early..." Let's leave good enough alone before I get myself into more trouble.
