I’ve used several of her recipes. That one looks terrific! If and when I get a deer, I am torn between pickling it or her version.

No problem. It does that, it’s been a warm fall, no real deep freeze yet or even a very hard frost. The soil is warm still. Mother Nature always finds a way!

I’ve been hitting it all week here, if I burn up Saturday because of that, oh well. I am really hoping to get one with the bow. I am even thinking of bringing it out Saturday too.

Your garlic will be ok. If you can, mulch it with straw or leaves. If not, no bid deal, all will be OK come spring.

I’ve been posting hunting related and PG (even g rated) in this thread, despite some members not finding any the humor to their taste. We’re they removed? For what reason? Is there to be NO HUMUR in this forum? Is that the new rule?

Back in a different stand than this morning, no deer seen at all. Took a little swim in the stream on the way back, so I had a cold wet walk home. May sit tomorrow afternoon again, we will see.

Great story and some true family memories were made. That’s all that matters!

Sat for the morning hunt for the first time since opening day, been all afternoons so far. Saw three doe at various times, all alone but no trackers. Got down at 9am and started walking back. Before I hit the field I always peek out to see if there is anything there. There was….a buck trotting right to me. Nice tall rack, maybe the 6 pointer I saw a couple of weeks ago. There was a thick bush between me and him, but I could see him clearly, but no shot thru the bush. I quickly nock an arrow and try to put the release on. I must have tried 15 times to nock it and it kept slipping off, all the while the buck is trotting closer to me. Finally, I get it on and look to see where the deer is - he is 15 yards away and staring at my position. I look at his feet and he holds for 20 seconds or so, and then turns away and trots off. I went back into the woods and grunted a few times, but he never showed again. Fun encounter with no shot fired again, but I will be back out this afternoon!

I saw this in Outdoor News a few weeks ago and cut it out. I do want to try it this year.

I’ve never waited a week to eat the heart, a day at the most. It is always very very tender. Pan fried with butter and onions is my go to. Maybe soak it in soy sauce, Worcester, and teriyaki sauce for 30 minutes before cooking.

I love the live shots of the animals in the traps. How do you dispatch them?

Ideally we have hunts like that until the last day of the season when we kill the biggest buck we have ever seen. THAT WOULD BE A SEASON!
