  1. Had a great time, no deer taken, a few bass and beautiful hike up Mt.Frederica. It was a lot of work and effort for the amount of time we spent actually hunting, but it was not a trip all about hunting. We packed in a lot in four days and have already talked about next year. Here are a few pics: New rod, first cast - BASS Follow up bass. 2. @Daveboone this one is for you.
  3. That may be the same place that used to be owned by Kevin Grover. I’ve hunted there several times too. Excellent grounds and birds!
  4. Did you hunt on a preserve? I used to go to Upland Game Preserve in Montour Falls. Lots of great memories!
  5. The Adirondacks, America's First Wilderness, by Paul Schneider https://www.amazon.com/Adirondacks-History-Americas-First-Wilderness/dp/0805059903
  6. We decided to delay one day to Thursday departure. Weather looks much better after this front passes by. Robin moved to Maine and is pretty far from Low's Lake, but he still trips alone and in the wilderness on North Maine woods. Lucky fellow! I am bringing a small pocket camera and plan to take some video and lots of pictures too.
  7. You are correct, he had a whole menagerie of animals brought in, they all escaped, but none of them really survived. At one time, beaver were pretty much extinct from the park too. Where we are camping is right near the rail station that was built to bring guests to his Great Camp Neshane, now long gone. I am just finishing up a very good book on the history of the Adirondacks. When done I plan to pass it on to someone on this site that would enjoy reading it.
  8. LOL, yes I did! I have a pack frozen and ready for dinner one night, hopefully with side of sautéed deer hearts!
  9. Me too! Expectations are high!
  10. I have those packed and ready, and I know where Shingle Shanty Brook is too! Thanks for the tip!
  11. This hunting season is going to start off with a bucket list trip, a four day canoe, hunting (archery), and fishing excursion to Lake Lila in the Adirondacks. This lake is not far from Low's Lake, where former member @Robin would canoe and camp into each October. Robin has moved from the NYS area, but is still an active canoe tripper. His reports really inspired me to do something I have never done before and always wish that I had. Luckily, I have a hunting partner that is an experienced camper, so I will not be flying totally blind into this. A solo trip is out of the question at this point in my life, but a lot of firsts for me and I feel good about that. Who knows, if I survive this, I may be able to try something else that is at the top of my bucket list: a week long trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota. We leave early tomorrow morning and plan to arrive by noon, canoe in about 2.5 miles to our campsite and hopefully set camp with some time to scout the nearby areas for likely deer activity. We already have a couple of locations picked out based on topography, but boots on the ground may tell a different story. Also bringing spinning rods and a small tackle box so we can try for SM Bass and Lake Trout. This has been in the planning stages for a couple of months, but the trigger is now set and the trip is a go. Will try to remember to take lots of photos and some notes too.
  12. I shot at Cassety Hollow near Morrisville this morning on their 3D course with some guys from my winter archery league. We all used traditional recurve bows. Had a great time and did pretty good considering it was my first time on a 3D course, and only started shooting the recurve last year. They shoot every week and I hope to join them more often next summer. There were only 4 traditional shooters registered, I took 3rd, but only because one of our group did not put in his score card. I hit 35 out of 40 targets, had a few 10s, a. 11, a bunch of 8s and the rest were 5s. Fun time and a great course. I got an extra 5 points on the iron deer too. Only counts if you hit the vitals, otherwise you hit steel and trash your arrow. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  13. Will, I can’t comment on the sizing, I know they have a size chart on the website. I will say that their clothing is top notch and you will really be happy with the quality of it. I use Fusion for the camo pattern, but either one would work as well. Depends on your preference.
  14. Jerry, I have not used the clamp on’s but I have a set of forks I bought Online from Everything Attachments. I believe they were under $500. Very heavy duty. I use them all on my tractor as much if not more than my bucket.
  15. Nice spread! Try some honey on the cheese with a cracker. Delicious!
  16. The procedure is much easier than even five years ago. Good luck to him!
  17. Got my results today. One is benign, the other was not benign - but had not become cancerous yet. It was removed and a follow up colonoscopy is supposed to be in 7 years, which I think is way too long for someone my age. Will have a follow up appointment with the gastro and my regular Dr. to learn more. Just googled some if it and I would rather not try to decipher all the possibilities and scenarios until I talk to the professionals. Good news/ bad news - but overall more good than bad.
  18. I am very sorry for your lose. You have lots of great memories to live on now.
  19. Great write up and pics, thanks for posting it! I should put in for that lottery....hey, you never know!

    Beer

I stayed there for a conference 7 or 8 years ago. At the time they did not serve alcohol, but allowed our group to have wine brought in and served at dinner. No TV’s or alarm clocks in the room, very traditional old school menu in the restaurant and banquet hall. Loved it! Not sure if all those things have stayed the same or changed now. It is an absolutely beautiful and unique hotel! Enjoy your stay!
  21. Rob, I have a friend that will reload anything you want. Let me know if you get stuck.
  22. Cory, if you are close to Syracuse, I could always use an extra hand, or bring your tomatoes here and we can process them in a few hours.
  23. Cory, that looks awesome! I like all the varieties you have. Nice to have options on the shelf. We have a motorized strainer and three stoves all going at once. It works well with 2 people, a third really moves things along. We do not pressure can, we use a water bath method, exactly like my Mother and her Mother have done for 75 + years. One of the stove was actually my Grandmothers. I am almost 60, I’m sure the stove is older than I am.
