WTF have I started..... Un-friggin believable!!!
-
FYI - It's believed Kelley O'Hara was player that retrieved the flag off the ground. Have to agree with Culver, don't believe the women intentionally put the USA flag on the ground & walked on it as a protest! Definitely not agreeing with what they did, but in the moment the photo opportunity was just too overwhelming and they dropped the flag. Again, not justifying what they did, but if you were crowned the best in the world (at anything!) I'd have to think all common-sense, ethics &/or clear thinking are lost. Much like their drinking, dancing and booty shaking celebration in the locker room after their win in the finals. Not a lot of you were around, but JMO all respect & reverence for the US flag went out the window during the 1960s when all you saw on TV was flag burning protests. BTW - By USA's youth! Then they began putting the likeness of the US flag on everything from undies to shorts to shirts to bandannas to vehicle murals. Very few people born after the "baby boomer era" really know what the US flag represents.

You go girls team for winning World Cup! Pretty physical match, but US women's team showed what they're made of! Congrats to US men's team for making finals, but did come up short.
-
No one watching or following the team? Granted I know nothing about soccer or the rules, but it's still entertaining to watch! Games against Spain, France and esp England were ... intense and very physical! Wednesday's Sweden vs Netherlands game was.. well after watching for 120+min was boring to say the least! Go you USA girls!

New Xbow legislation for 2019 introduced

New Xbow legislation for 2019 introduced
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Still, you'd have to get a majority of the legislators to pass this constitutional amendment, with most being from the greater NYC area. Twice, if IRC! They have no vested interest in this idea, since upstate issues are of little interest to them. Not to mention this action also takes a popular vote by NYS residents. BUT G-Man, you are on the right track regardless! Simply submit a bill to put this decision on Xbow implementation in the hands of the DEC w/o all the added verbiage like has been included in the past. Thing that bewilders me is after years of failed Xbow legislation for all of NYS, why hasn't it been proposed selectively at the county level? Is this so much different than the adaptation of rifles in shotgun only SZ areas per county? Clue me in.... -
But...but...Buckstopshere, this isn't based on your typical rutting moon theory timing we've debated before! Whatz up with this? I'd agree Nov 11th is sort of a historical rut date, +/- 5->7 days. I found it kind of baffling when he casually mentioned a full moon Nov 12th and didn't give any insight on that hunting phenomenon. Just a clarification from the author of the linked article, when you mention the "peak" rut, assuming it is the "chasing" stage!?! OMFG, that's exciting and fun to watch, but I prefer and have better luck during the prior "seeking" stage when the bucks are on their feet & traveling more and aren't so frenzied or testosterone charged. And ... as the author stated the real unpredictable wild card gets factored in - the weather! Guess if it were so predictable, it wouldn't be fun anymore, huh!?! Another interesting article, Mr. Oak Duke!!!

New Xbow legislation for 2019 introduced

Not like there's an election process or a waiting list of those willing to step forward to take over the command of either group you mentioned! Granted, also assuming it's a part-time job for either org leader and a tiresome one at that! Kudos to either for what they are attempting to do, regardless of whether I agree with their decisions or not!!! Just too many behind the scenes political issues to give any Xbow legislation a fighting chance of a simple pro vs con vote. -
Rough cut trail mower
nyslowhand replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
These mowers have their uses and places to be used in/around. OP, gotta decide what you expect to use a mower for! Different equipment available for small-ish trails/shooting lanes vs keeping open areas manicured. Then there's the time you can dedicate to doing this task!! Can destroy one if thinking you'll mow areas with potholes. boulders. stumps, ruts or wet areas, regardless of "stump jumper" advertising. Been there, done that! Not for everyone, but I used a self-propelled, walk-behind 24" brushhog to keep ~1.5mi of ATV trails (~6' wide) open and shooting lanes cleared around 10+ treestands. Sounds like a lot of work, but you only have to mow a couple times each summer to keep areas cleared. FYI- A walk-behind is a lot more maneuverable and can get into areas an ATV with attached mower can not! Like another member mentioned, with a Swisher product you'll become super familiar with repairs and the companies parts website. -
New Xbow legislation for 2019 introduced
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Uhm,.. err, ... maybe!?! Granted I was a member of NYCC from 2014-2018 and followed their lobbying/legislative bills closely.Exact same bills introduced in 2015, 16, 17 & 18 with similar results. New revised bill introduced this year was different & unique, but introduced at 11th hour of legislative session. Really hate to criticize the sole group responsible for advancing any Xbow legislation, but.... Hell, I'd even agree to an extra Xbow license fee if revenue is what motivates NYS legislation and Czar Andy. -
New Xbow legislation for 2019 introduced
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
Since the NYS legislators recessed for the summer on Wednesday (6/19) with no announced passing of the Xbow bill, assuming it never got out of the sub-committee &/or to the voting stage! BTW - legislation that does not get passed before summer recess typically never resurfaces again! Better luck next year, seems to be the NYS' pro-Xbow slogan! -
Dumb comments &/or opinions on Facebook...? Shouldn't be shocking to anyone, esp FB itself!

..... the heart wrenching part is that the afflicted person probably won't recognize who you are - son, daughter, spouse or any close family member. BUT, that one visit when they actually know who you are is worth all the other heart breaking visits!!!
-
^^^ Seen these, but sticker shock prevented me from trying them. ~$6/jar compared to $2-3 for other name brand sauces. When you use off the shelf sauce as merely an add-in, hardly worth the xtra $.

My dad went through this before passing away. Extremely hard to witness this mental shell of a person you love dearly. I tried to visit him as often as I was able to, while knowing he'd not have a clue who I was most of the time. Kept returning for the rare occasion he might have a lucid moment so I could talk to him about his life, hunting, fishing and discussing his condition. Hope this doesn't happen to you as it brings reality to a whole new level. Once during my dad's rare lucid moments he actually asked me to help him end his life........WHAT!!! Needless to say I couldn't morally oblige him, but still knew it was probably the right thing to do. Gave me a new outlook on what Alzheimer's patients might be going thru mentally. Not a religious person, but I'm probably going to hell for asking the Lord to take my dad away from his suffering. It lingered a couple of years, but he was finally freed. RIP, dad! If you haven't been thru this 1st hand, you don't know... My advice is while seeing the literal empty shell of your loved one, simply remember & celebrate their life as they were prior to their debilitating illness. Truly a sad and brutal reality.....

Visions of Jeremiah Johnson shooting at an elk over a horse's back come to mind.... And Bear Claw telling him "Elk don't know how many feet a horse have."

Anyone see this show on (IRC) the Travel Channel? Puts a whole different spin on searching for local bigfoots... bigfeet.. Hilarious show about rednecks running around the woods at night with guns trying to capture a bigfoot. No spoiler alert here, but a few of my fav situations from the show... one researcher (big ? here!!) was put into a trance by a bigfoot, or when they found a campfire and were convinced bigfoot cooked their game animals or on the ceiling of a small cave a crude map of the local area was found and the good ole boys thought bigfoot put that there for reference. Worthy of watching at least a couple episodes, simply for the humor!

Cumo-economics, is that a word? Like Belo mentioned, this has almost always been in effect for internet sales. If a company had a presence (facility) within NYS regardless where item's sale originated from, they were required to collect sales tax on their items sold via the web. If not, not required... until now!

Doesn't anyone use a crock pot anymore. Takes less than 30min to prep everything that goes into your fav sauce and crock pot does the rest! Same process for homemade chili, .. almost.

Geneva, NY is a pretty friendly little city...
nyslowhand replied to philoshop's topic in General Chit Chat
BTW - Stanley and Geneva are worlds apart, no way to compare the two! IRC, Stanley has a flashing yellow light just to let you know when on Rte5/20 that there's a town close-by.Geneva has typical "city" issues! -
Interesting, if you're looking for a used truck! Very specific review about good/bad per mfger, model & year. This is one review, pretty sure there are many more out there that might contradict this one's findings!??! Not to mention a lot of truck owners are brand/mfger loyal.Another unknown is for used trucks the previous owner may not be "forthcoming" with a buyer. Most of the reasons people are selling vehicles are not ideal &/or readily divulged to a buyer. Yeah, you can have two sequential vehicles assembled and one might be a lemon, while other is okay! I read an article years ago alleging this occurs depending on the time of day at the assembly plant, whether entirely robotic or strictly manual assembly. Then you factor in all the vehicle's sub-assemblies made all over the world.

New Xbow legislation for 2019 introduced
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
^^^ ... and with only ~12 working days (sessions) left to get any progress on these bills, as always being referred to the Enviro-Conser sub-committee has been a death sentence. JMO, but think the last minute legislative sessions this year will be filled with debates on legalizing marijuana for Czar Andy. Go figure...! -
Obvious idiot's question... What do you do, cut the legs off and discard the rest of the frog? Need a ton of them for just one person, huh? Sounds like fun!!

For years, all the local apple farmers have leased imported bee hives for their pollination season. If I recall correctly, most bee-keepers/hivers are from down south. FYI: "The bee’s plight is widespread: Serious declines have been reported in both managed honeybee colonies and wild populations. Jennifer Sass, an NRDC senior scientist, says there are multiple factors at play. Each on its own is bad enough, but combined they are quickly proving too much to handle. Pesticides: These chemicals are designed, of course, to kill insects. But some systemic varieties—specifically neonicotinoids—are worse for bees than others. Loss of habitat: As rural areas become urban, the patches of green space that remain are often stripped of all weeds and their flowers, which bees rely on for food. Climate change: Unusually warm winters have caused plants to shift their schedules. When bees come out of hibernation, the flowers they need to feed on have already bloomed and died. Disease: Pathogens carried by mites weaken bees, which makes them more susceptible to pesticide poisoning. On the flip side, if bees are already weakened by pesticides, they’re more vulnerable to disease."
