  1. ^^^ generally speaking, maybe! Regardless if you have a new compound bow, a 20yo one or a 200#/350+fps Xbow, there are situations where you have to compensate for impact into the vitals. EX; the dreaded quartering away or the super close shots <10yrds. Obviously there are conditions that effect these "rule of thumb" considerations... shooting from really high (20-25' +) elevations or up/down hill shots. This is where the line of sight vs actual shooting yardage becomes a factor for any bow. JMO, flatter shooting bows do not change the trajectory of the arrow after impact more than older bows do. You get more yardage variation (+/-) within each sight pin than older bows do making incorrect yardage "guess-timates" less of an issue. Naturally, flatter shooting bows are better at longer shots. Two distinct & separate issues here, yardage and vital penetration!
  2. If you have a very specific set of options, color or trim you want - some dealerships will search other dealerships for a vehicle with your preferred options. Vehicle match is then sent to the dealer's lot near you. BTW - has to be a sales person that is willing to help satisfy your request and not trying to dazzle you with BS. Probably have to deal with the Sales Mgr directly and not the intermediary "runners" like most dealership sales departments are s/u!!! Not sure how this works when one dealer gets a vehicle from another to sell to you, but they can do it!
  3. Can't give any input on the ride. Couple years ago I did some shopping for a Jeep, which I'd always wanted. Got a small Jeep SUV and sorry I did. Lot of better riding, cheaper, more "bang for the buck" SUVs with 4WD or AWD on the market. If you're determined to get a Jeep, when shopping bet you'll find you can get a better, more family friendly, road-worthy Jeep model for same/less $$ than the Wrangler Rubicon. But ... If money is no object and you want to go off-roading with a ~$45+k SUV, go for it! Check out Edmund's review.
  4. Dude, you've got that chainsaw art work down to a science.. an art form!!! AMAZING!!!!!
  5. The opportunity to get that "rush" is what makes us get up at 4-5AM, sit in the stand all day or in the rain &/or snow - day after day, year after year! We can do all the text-book things to control buck fever, but if it ain't there to some degree - will we continue to hunt ourselves??? Takes a lot of encounters to be able to (semi-) control your adrenaline rush. What's helped me with mature buck encounters is to only take the initial rack/BB assessment view of the buck's body/rack. The proverbial shoot or not decision. Then I try to never look at the rack again and focus on the shot opportunity, yardage, shot placement and my breathing. Like others, once the shot is released and a good hit is seen, the waiting for the crash or visual downed BB within sight is when I begin the shaking! Meat hunters can probably control this better than those of us simply looking to harvest a mature buck, IDK...
  6. Not sure where everyone is looking, but the on-line version of the 2019-20 hunting/trapping regs were available at least a couple weeks ago. Assuming the printed version was also available at that time. As of yesterday (8/23) when I bought my new licenses, the regs were available at town clerks office.
  7. Her dad must be on here or some other forum members know of her, Haylee Yamin!!! Very cool & congrats to her!!!! https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/2019/08/15/haylee-yamin-wins-international-bowhunters-organization-world-championship/2010411001/
  8. Establishing sanctuaries within a hunting property is a whole other topic. But, yes.. hunting the perimeters along known travel routes of these "safe zones" can be very productive. Another interesting topic for discussion would be when are your most productive hours for harvesting BBs. Due to their activity or your own preferred hours to hunt?
  9. JMO, If you know where the girls are frequenting for early Nov food sources or their core area - Won't this attract the boys? I haven't shot a buck in the past 16-17yrs that was not in an area where does regularly frequent. Of course, there might be exceptions to my strategy like hedge rows BBs might traverse while cruising to get to other does. Disclaimer ... this is for tree stands and probably a whole different hunting method needed for stalking, IDK.
  10. FYI: Manner of Taking It is unlawful to: Take big game while the deer or bear is in water.
  11. The early November wet snows are the curse of pop-up blinds w/o any center hub support. Most any redneck engineered item will most likely work; 2x4, 2x2, ~2" sapling, tensioning shower curtain rod, PAM (?), whatever .... JMO, Doesn't seem to matter if it's a $100 or $300+ pop-up, gonna have snow issues.
  12. IRC, the Bills put all their hopes in the Allen draft choice. The fans knew they also needed an upgrade to their offensive line for Allen to even have a chance of success. Bills seemed to be addressing that in 2019. Hoping he can rise to the challenge with a little OL protection. Would hate to see Allen follow in the path of Rosen and not given a fighting chance to succeed. Then there's the questionable RB situation with a couple of mid-30yo "go to" guys.... I'm a love/hate fan, but I do feel sorry for the fans looking for another Kelley era glory days to emerge.. soon!
  13. ^^^ don't know about a better hunter, but at least you don't have to worry about what some else on the property is doing or seeing. You vs BBs, w/o any other distractions.
  14. Scuttle-butt several weeks ago by sports jocks was the prediction Mahomes might re-peat MVP. Wish I had their crystal ball! Pre-season injuries (and of course more $$) is why NFL owners & NFLPA are all-in for a longer season w/ fewer pre-season games - injures before the games actually matter. Just when you begin to get excited about the upcoming season, idiots like Antonio Brown surface and muddy the water. Or the ongoing self-destructive Packers story line... Then there's us poor WNY'ers stuck in our love/hate relationship with the Bills. Questionable, over-aged RBs, a franchise QB with lingering accuracy issues,... Come on Browns, rise from the ashes!
  15. Yeah, those big, mature & nocturnal bucks will drive you crazy, fer sure! That's what gets us hunters obsessed and sitting in the stand, right!!?!!
  16. The author of the OP's attached link should have stopped after the first 2 paragraphs. Began contradicting his own original insights with the rutting moon thing. Oh boy, you poor working people having to plan hunting vacation!! I used to take Fridays off from 2nd/3rd week of Oct and then Fri & Mon off beginning ~Nov 5-10th or so. Don't be haters - I'm retired now so whenever the mood strikes I'm in a tree. Only problem with that is I have gotten too picky when I hunt. TOO hot, TOO windy, TOO rainy, TOO whatever... Have actually been called-out & made fun of my TOO excuses, but I've learnt to embrace those choices.
  17. 99% of the time for most of my life-time of hunting. Yikes, me too! Texting someone about seeing nothing, perfect morning, is rut on, blah, blah. Look-up from my stand in the thicket and there's a nice mature buck at 12yrds walking from behind me.. broadside on my right side. Quickly disappears into the brush before I could get phone down and bow up. After 3-5min of cursing myself, WTFs - I texted again saying I just screwed-up, blah, blah. Don't I look-up and same buck had circled around & comes back thru to my left at <25yrds. Lesson learned - NO more fooling with my phone unless I'm in a more open woods hunting situation!!!!
  18. Interesting read. Same conclusions in article we already knew about the fixed vs mech BH discussion before reading. Did have some interesting facts in article, but hardly any overwhelming results to convert any bow hunter to use one or the other BHs. What I found confusing was that the article had "facts/data", but the author spent more time on disclaimers or the circumstances around the shot, even before any recovery had begun. IE; buck-fever, shot placement, deer's reaction at time of shot, ... All of which directly effected the shot's lethalness and recovery %, regardless of which BH was used. Found it interesting all applicants needed to complete a bow hunter safety course and pass a bow (Xbow?) shooting test. Which is a good thing!!!
  19. You never cease to amaze me! Awesome, as usual!!!!!!
  20. Bow square, dude. Or like ^^^, go back to some of the basic bow s/u items. Hoping we can agree to disagree - but I've found FPs do NOT shoot the same as BHs in any of the compound bows I've owner. Even mechanical BHs shoot slightly different than comparable weight FPs, hardly enough difference to adj sight pins though. Certain brands, styles of fixed BHs can be finicky. Now you're into the mystical science of tuning arrows - FOC, straightness, flexing, BH vanes aligned with fletchings, small vanes vs larger/longer ones, spacers, adding lighted nocks, abra-cadabra.
  21. These ^^^, but most likely others have spoiled or abused these landowners' permission previously. Could also be a concern for liability issues. Landowner may reconsider their "NO" with some assurance of your integrity, responsibility and a possible release form. Obviously if the door is slammed in your face, best to thank them & walk away. Don't knock on a door seeking permission w/o a hard evidence, hand-out folder of who you are.... a simple bio, contact info, job desc or business card, family, local ties or references, if avail - pistol permit background check receipt, blah, blah. Seem like over-kill... what's the worst that could happen, still a "NO" and folder of personal info is thrown away!?! Or you could get a call-back, who knows? Or - sometimes $$ talks or a promise of some bartered "sweat equity". Interesting previously posted forum reading for those seeking hunting permission...
  22. Guy I use to work with competed in a sort of amateur kayak biathlon(?) in the Daks. Had to paddle across several lakes and carry kayak between the land-locked ones. Not exactly sure where it started/ended..? Sounded like fun, if you're into that sort of thing!
  23. ^^^ Yeah, that dysfunctional family drama is difficult to watch. Main reason I don't watch any of the pre-scripted reality shows with all the drama & conflict intentionally inserted. Something I thought about last week was - how will this show end once it's run its' course and rating are down? Guesses, a poll..?
  24. ^^^ or any other free photo/video hosting or storage site. FYI - Google Photo also, along with a few other sites.
