  1. Reminds me of one of my old girlfriends.....<<SMILE>>....
  2. I've seen pictures of your daughter... Would she like to come hunt with me in my new tower blind ??? I'll gladly gut her deer, etc........<<SMILE>>...
  3. Take up squirrel and rabbit hunting.....It takes up FAR more time and you get to experience the thrill of the kill MANY times...hehehehe... And the little varmints are DAM good to eat, too !!! And much easier to carry out of the woods...
  4. In my old T/C Hawken .50 Cal, No Excuses 460 grain conical ahead of 80 grains of 3f Triple 7....... Loads easy and shoots flat enough for 100 yards, which is further than I have ever shot anything with my peep sights anyway.. I worked up the load for an elk hunt about 15 years ago...Did a fine job on a 6x6 bull... It shot so good and was so easy to load, I have used on local whitetails ever since...Amazingly, it kills them very efficiently too...<<grin>>...
  5. I drive my pickup, which is much quieter than a quad, to within about 300 yards of my stand and walk the rest of the way... Most of my deer the last few years have dropped in a field or close to a woods road where I can pull up with the truck and slide them up into the bed.. If they drop where I can't use the truck, I have a Ford 9N to drag them out with...My days of dragging deer more than a few yards at over...hehehehe...
  6. You read my mind, Chris...On the lookout for the office chairs....A friend is hooking me up a 30 lb propane tank which should last all season and I'm checking prices on the Mr Buddy heater...
  7. I couldn't build a decent doghouse....Hehehehe... Fortunately for me, however, I have friend who is a former building contractor and a very talented carpenter...When he offered to build a tower stand for me, I jumped at the offer.. The platform is 9' high, and sits on sunken and concreted PT 4x4s... He pre-fabed The sides and roof at his house, trailered them to my property and we hoisted them up on the platform and assembled them...He also pre-fabed a nice set of stairs with railing, so old farts like me don't have to deal with negotiating a ladder.. The box is 4 x 8 and has 4 shooting windows.... All I need to do now is get chairs, a piece of carpet and a heater and it will be a nice comfy, warm stand overlooking my food plot...
  8. I'd leave Phil alone.... " If MOMMA ain't happy , ain't NOBODY happy !!".....
  9. Nice gator Fletch !! The euro mount reminds me of my mother -in-law.... My Canadian hunting buddy has had the nickname Gator for all of his adult life...People ask why a CANADIAN would have the nickname Gator... It's because his given name is Gaylord.....I'd rather be called Gator too....Hehehehe...
  10. If you have a 30-06, you don't NEED any other calibers... Fortunately, NEED and WANT are two different things...<<grin>>....
  11. Yeah...Those Weatherby mags are noted for light recoil....
  12. Does a duck's azz pucker in a power dive???!!!
  13. That why I wear my Kevlar jockey shorts when I hunt ducks...
  14. Nope....36 Lbs of clover on 1.5 acres.....With oats as well ..That's 12 lb. clover and 50 lb. oats per 1/2 acre.. I'll have to check my post to see if my writin's written rotten, to quote my old hero, Popeye...<<grin>>....
  15. I planted the oats today...1/2 acre in forage oats and one acre in feed oats, so I'll get a good, side by side comparison.. I seeded 36 pounds of clover mix with the oats...Now it would be nice to get a little rain in the next few days..
  16. Nice...One of my hunting partners shot one like that in PA a few years back...
  17. I haven't sworn off killing them...I just don't do it anymore on a regular basis..I did go out last year with a couple of friends who used to hunt crows with me years ago and we shot a dozen or so...
  18. I have a friend who is a professional fireman at a refinery in Corpus... He boarded up his house and sent his wife, kid and dogs up to his parents place in San Antonio, and currently is on 24 hour emergency status for the duration of the storm...
  19. Yeah...I was wondering who the new dude is ??
  20. Happy birthday, Elmo....Hope ya get LUCKY !....
  21. My oats and clover are going in the ground Saturday....
  22. Happy birthday, Ya big Galloot !! When I turned 23 I had just been released from two years active duty in the Navy...
  23. My Mountain Rifle has a nice satin finish walnut stock, along with an ebony forend cap and a nice, classic style rollover cheekpiece rather than the monte carlo abominations on the BDLs.. It has a DBM , but the early ones had a hinged floorplate, which I MUCH prefer to a (yuck) DBM... Mayhaps it's an early production Mountain Rifle..
  24. Thanks for the input, Growie... I am seeding clover along with the oats....One advantage I thought of regarding putting them in one area is that I can get a direct comparison of how well they work compared to the cheaper feed oats..
