Yeah...Awhile back Wing Supply had Covert MP6s on sale for $99 with free shipping...I have two of them now (on the advice of knowledgeable members of this forum such as Phade) And they have worked well for me.

Happy Birthday Ol' Hoss.....<<grin>>....

Longer season..?? Are you KIDDING me ?? This last one damn near killed me... All that time driving around at night with a spotlight holding an AR-15 out the window.... I'm glad it's over so I can get some SLEEP !!

I got the Mermaid an inflatable Tom Selleck Doll...She moved Tom upstairs and I get the recliner....Win/Win... I told her I'd like to have her go to Cox's and buy me a seersucker suit... She went to Sears....

All the steel shells that I have are marked STEEL..

There is a website titled " Iceshanty.com" or something similar that might have that info, Dom.

Without a doubt....Fried oysters !! Dust them with flour, dip in eggwash, roll them in bread crumbs and then fry in BUTTER a couple of minutes on each side, so they are golden brown. The Mermaid and I both love them..Unfortunately, they WORK better for me than they do for her.. Ever hear the expression " All dressed up and nowhere to go"..??..

Growie...I'm still not sure which you want.. Is it .35 Whelen or .35 Rem ? I could keep my eyes peeled for either... The .35 Whelen is considerably more powerful than the .35 rem...Also harder to find, because there are not many factory rifles chambered for it.

Crow shooting...Brings back fond memories... I used to do a LOT of it... It is great wingshooting fun and one of the few sports where it is possible to burn up a couple of boxes of shells actually shooting at game. I credit crow shooting for the fact that I became a relatively proficient wingshot in my younger years. There was a time, years ago, when along with a partner or two, I spent nearly all of my spare time in March and September hunting crows. I don't shoot anything that I don't eat anymore (except coyotes)... I feed the crows table scraps in my backyard..LOL... Still, I can't think of many things a person could do with his clothes on that would be much more fun than a good crow shoot !!

Short barrels are fine for turkey as long as you have an adequate sighting system. My 11-87 has a 21" barrel and I've killed a bunch of turkeys with it. I have used several different sighting systems, from rib-mounted aftermarket fiberoptic sights, to a Bushnell holosight, to my present setup, a Leupold 1x4 Vari-x II. All have worked well. I do use an extended turkey choke, a Kick's Gobblin' Thunder .665". However, if to plan to wingshoot with the gun, the riot barrel is too short and whippy. You'd be better off with a 26" vent rib barrel equipped with choke tubes and some type of low profile adjustable sights. You won't want a red dot or a scope on it if you plan to use it for wingshooting.

I'll never forget the episode where Big Jim was wrestling a HUGE anaconda in about 3 feet of water in a swamp. I think that dude was a few fries short of a happy meal... Kinda like the Crocodile Man... -

I have 2 Burris scopes, a 2x7 Fullfield II and a fixed 4X compact. No problems with either one..They seem like pretty good scopes to me, and I am a Leupold fan... -

I'll be watching this thread with interest. I have had a pair of Lacrosse 3MM neoprenes for over 10 years...Very comfortable and plenty warm with 1000GM thinsulate boot feet. This fall they sprung a major leak while I was duck hunting the river in November. DAMN, but that water was cold..!!... I have started researching another pair..I lean toward the Lacrosse because the last pair were good ones, but many of the reviews favor other brands, such as Cabela's. I use them for cold weather fishing and duck hunting... I am eyeing the Cabela's 3MM boot foot lug sole, for about $180, but I am not ready to pull the trigger yet. -

Easy....You started hunting at 7:00 AM and quit at 5:00 PM regardless of whether it was eastern standard time or daylight savings time... -

In '69, I was making about $2.00 an hour as a grocery clerk in an A&P store... Genessee beer was 99 cents a six pack... Marlboros were 30 cents a pack... I can't remember what NON- necessities cost...LOL... Gas was around 30 cents a gallon, though.... When I got off active duty from the Navy in '73, I went to work for Corning Glass Works as a salaried lab tech for $130 per week... -
Nope...It seems like it would increase the chances of accidently cutting yourself, while providing questionable advantages regarding making the broadhead more effective on game.

Usually, stuffing the cavity in the box with tissue and lightening up on the pressure will soften the calls nicely... Purrs are a PERSONAL thing with box calls..Some of my boxes purr nicely, others don't. My Foolproof doesn't purr worth a darn, but my buddy's purrs SWEEEEET.. Purrs are fine, but soft clucks and very soft yelps get the job done too. I must admit, I carry a pot call in my vest to use only for soft clucks and purrs, but I seldom use it.

Lots of good advice here.... I'll just throw in a couple of points... Don't discount the box call...I personally believe that the box call is the easiest call for most beginners to make authentic turkey calls with...One box that has killed truckloads of gobblers is the Lynch Foolproof..Some of the deadliest gobbler slayers that I know rely mostly on the box..I have 14 of them...My current favorite is a custom box made by Bob Harwell in South Carolina, but many birds have succumbed to my Lynch Foolproof that I bought for $17 in 1976. I have been fooled MANY times in the woods by hunters with box calls. Only the VERY BEST mouth callers have fooled me into thinking they were a real turkey rather than a hunter..I don't think I have EVER been fooled by a slate/pot type call.. As for locators, in NY a good loud crow call works as well as anything. In areas where there are few crows but lots of barred owls, an owl hoot may work better...However, very AUTHENTIC owl hoots work much better than mediocre owl hoots, where as with a crow call, the main thing is being LOUD. All that said, I do not use locator calls as a standard method...I generally use them when I want a bird to reveal his location, but don't really want to use a turkey call to do it..

" With age comes wisdom, Grasshopper" Hehehe....Unfortunately, many other things come with age. Arthritis, spastic colon, incontinence, erectile dysfunction and many other wonderful conditions... I remember a quote from George Burns.. " Sex in your eighties is like shooting pool with a rope".... -

Cool..!.. I killed my first buck in 1966. I also passed my driver's test in my Dad's 1953 Ford Pickup ( 6 cylinder, 3 speed on the column) and got my first driver's license. -
He said he had "quite a few BOXES" of shells...
