  1. Everyone here locally is talking about what a slow opening weekend it was, with very little shooting However SOMEONE is killing them... I stopped at Madigan's Custom Cutting just west of Addison on RT 119...One of my Canadian buddies wanted to donate his deer... They have around fifty deer there, mostly bucks, and I saw more BIG racks there than I have ever seen....There must have been 10 or 12 real wallhangers, and the average rack size was much bigger than normal....Lots of real nice 8 and 10 points.....One 10 had to go close to 150 inches, and he was huge for down here along the Pennsyltucky border...I'm guessing he would go 180 dressed... Maybe even more...That is not too unusual around the Finger lakes and the lake plains, but down here in Dogpatch it is real big.. I have been hunting for over 50 years and the heaviest local buck I ever saw weighed on a SCALE ( as opposed to weighing them with a thumb and an eyeball) weighed 185 dressed...
  2. It was 65 degrees yesterday afternoon in my tower stand with the heater on LOW....
  3. 54th NY opening day for me....I'll climb into my tower, fire up the heater and within 15 minutes it will be 54 degrees....Hehehe... Good luck to all and hunt safe..
  4. I know a guy who booked a western hunt for mule deer and elk...Hiked many miles into the high country and when he tried to load his rifle the cartridges would not chamber..he had bought .300 Weatherby mags for his .300 Winchester... And he is a PHD....
  5. Got any ammo for it ? A friend of mine ( now deceased) had a Rem M14 in .30 Rem..He did not have a computer, so I used to get him ammo online from a couple of different sources that sold obsolete or hard to find ammo.. That was a few years ago though..
  6. That's what she said in a gay bar in Harlem.....Fixed it for ya, Chris....
  7. DANG !! I had to drive about the same distance from the other direction to pick up your Grandmother... It was worth the drive tho…..<<smile>>...
  8. IIRC, Sherriff Frank Hamer used one in .35 Rem to shoot Bonnie and Clyde.....
  9. Damn....!!… You caught us, Biz....Actually, Growie has been keeping me as a love slave for the last two years...
  10. Does Pygmy grant permission ?? Does a duck's ass pucker in a power dive ??…...Hehehehe.. POST it !!
  11. Go with the better scope....I HATE antler restrictions !!.. It is the main reason I quit hunting PA....

  13. I think I have room in my blind for her...
  14. Thank you, my friend, but I still have a lot to learn about trapping..I pulled my last trap this morning, which happened to be the one I caught that cat in...In the fresh snow there were bobcat tracks all over my trap and it never went off !! Perhaps next year I can sharpen my skills a little...

    pistol carry?

Back before we could use rifles here, I had a Rem XP-100 in .260 Rem that I used mostly for watching field edges later in the season.. It had a Burris 4x compact scope and a bipod...I killed six or seven deer with it, a couple over 200 yards..Always shot it either over a hay bale or lying flat on my stomach, except for one close shot in the woods when I rested against a tree... I installed QD sling studs on the butt and the forend and slung it under my right arm when I was carrying it... I considered it a "handrifle" and when rifles became legal, I sold it, because I knew I would never use it again...
  16. If you can get both hands in there and can't clap, it's TIGHT !! At least that's what one of my old girlfriends used to tell me...
  17. Nothing like a nice, warm muff....Now what were we talking about ??
  18. You'll have to do LARGER PRINT for us old folks...
  19. Good job..He's a tank !!… Congrats on a great buck and your first butchering job...I have been cutting up my own deer since the 1960s.... The only thing I don't do is grind, since I have a couple of good friends with BIG grinders who allow me to use their equipment, for the price of a 30 pack or two...<<grin>>….
  20. No problem Zag...We have 3 or 4 posters on here that change their screen names about once a week...
  21. Hehehehe..You and about 200,000 other guys were sighting in today, by the sound of the shooting I heard...
