  1. Not sure I could remember what to do if I CAUGHT one...<<SIGH>>….
  2. I made my first ever specific sets for bobcats this morning...I only had time to make two because I had to take The Mermaid to a DR appt....I'll put in 2 or 3 tomorrow , and then set a few for coyotes... I'll probably catch every damn skunk and possum on the property...<<sigh>>…...
  3. My fishing buddy Howie filets 1000's of fish each year in an upstairs bedroom.... Actually he has it set up pretty good...The worst part is carrying all the stuff up and down the stairs...
  4. I don't care how big the bucks are...There is no way I would put up with that kind of BS to hunt... If that happened around here, the foul mouthed little prick would be walking (kinda) home with a hockey stick crammed up his butt..
  5. Welcome to our forum, Ladyhunter….<< Pygmy bows and gently kisses Ladyhunter's hand>>…. People vary greatly in their physical abilities, ESPECIALLY when they reach the mid '50s and on...If you are in very good physical condition, you may well be able to hunt safely and effectively from a climber...If you are in AVERAGE condition for your age, I would recommend hunting from the ground....I am 69 and consider myself in average condition, and I don't even do ladder stands anymore....My balance and co-ordination just aren't what they were just a few short years ago..
  6. Wouldn't be worth it to me...I'd take up needlepoint...SAD.....Another good reason that I haven't gone east of the Hudson River since 1977....
  7. Switch to IC and you'll kill more ducks AND geese....
  8. My duck hunting buddy cooks his up for his beagles..They LOVE 'em !! I saved a couple for bait in my bobcat sets..I'll let you know how they work in a week or two...
  9. Not much belly sag...Relatively big ears indicates fairly small bear I'm no judge of bear weight, however...
  10. Over the last 40 years I have had several places like that, but like all good things, they don't last forever.... It has been a number of years since I had a place where I could count on shooting a limit of ducks, even the first few days... I am in a marginal area of the flyway...All of my former hotspots are either no longer good habitat, or are no longer available for me to hunt...
  11. Way to go, Jay....And you got some GOOD ducks....Unfortunately I won't be straying far from home for awhile...The Mermaid just spent 5 days in the hospital..She's doing OK now, but is on light duty ( including no driving) for at least a month, so I don't dare leave her more than a couple of hours...
  12. I killed a limit by 8:30 AM....Of course five of them were MERGIES, Hehehe....The other was a drake Woodie, which I plucked and will roast for the Mermaid and me.....
  13. Shooting time this morning is 6:54....I have about a ten minute drive to my spot... It's foggy this morning, so I won't be able to see the ducks until they are right on top of me... Oh well..... Good luck, all you deer, turkey and duck chasers !!
  14. Doesn't matter to me....Can you say " All dressed up and nowhere to go " ??
  15. I've had a jacket for several years now, and it has become my favorite cold weather garment...
  16. I can't say...I never sat on one....
  17. It is taken from the sheep the Amishmen keep tied to a post out BEHIND the barn... The VIRGIN wool is taken from the sheep the Amishmen can't catch...
  18. We got less than an inch of rain here in Dogpatch, and it did not affect the river level much...
  19. Tomorrow is the local duck opener ( as well as pheasant and fall turkey)... I plan to be on a straight stretch on the local river hoping for some pass shooting at ducks...The spot CAN be good for woodies and the occasional mallard or black, but in the past few years I have seen mostly mergansers..I generally give them a pass because they taste like s**t, but his year I plan to whack a couple to use for bait at my bobcat sets...
  20. Looking forward to the pictures...I didn't realize that Savage was chambering the .308 in the 99 in 1956...That was a pretty new chambering then...
  21. Does the AKC or the UKC recognize a breed called " Wetback Spaniel"...??...
  22. Never met an 1100 I didn't like...Great classic shotgun....
  23. I still weigh every charge on my old Herter's beam balance powder scale... I find reloading very relaxing and therapeutic... My M70 .280, which I bought in 1988, has never had a factory round shot through it... My 7mm08 Mountain Rifle had one box of factory loads during barrel break in...I have never fired a factory load at game with either rifle.. Not that there is anything wrong with factory loads...I could probably find factory loads for all of my rifles that are as accurate, effective and reliable as my handloads...I just get a good deal of satisfaction from killing game with loads that I worked up and loaded myself...
