Check what the twist rate of the barrel is and that will tell you what weight bullet you can use.

X2 , got my Lifetime,Reg. and Turkey last week and the Free, DMP, MZ. and Archery today.

What a difference from last year with the apple trees by me ,last year the branches were hanging low for the weight of all the apples on the apple trees. This year some have O, none other you have too look hard to find an apple on the tree. Not too good for the deer.Blackberries also far and few between. And we had no heavy frost this year either ,can't blame it on that. Acorns are dropping , but not that many either.

The old days for us were the 60's and 70's , a few DEC check stations and road blocks on the way home. We stopped at least at one to have our checked out and join in with the hunting stories of others that stopped. Ahh The Good Old Days.

Bow mounts for ATV/UTV
thphm replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
At 73 and a faulty aortic valve I have been and still Drive to me blinds.I am driving on my property almost every day with the atv or one of the tractors. The deer are not spooked at all.I park it outside of the blinds and does not scare them at all.I have had them bedding and browsing 30 yards from sunrise to sunset. The property has very few flat areas my property goes from 2000 feet to 2500 feet in a 1000 foot distance. If I score and get some thing I just gut it and go back get my JD with the bucket and bring it back down to the block and tackle. I have made out tubing that I welded to fit one rack up front ,Can carry 2 rifles in cases or 2 bows also a rack in the back that holdt 3 milk crates or 2 crates and a cooler. On the atv. Have a good and safe up coming hunting season. -
One that is about 10 years old ( steel tubing ) would not trust it any more + way too many younger trees on the whole property ,not worth putting any up ,I have 3 climbers and not using them either, My ground blinds work just fine. Besides after loosing the use of me right hand and wrist for 16 weeks I am way behind on every thing more important.I do not think I will be using a bow this year. I almost purchased (ready to send the money ) for a X bow and lost the use of the hand the same day. So I am back to as I started hunting from the ground.

Does anyone have any .243 brass ( not Remington ) that the want to trade for the above ?.If you look up the price of the Lapua brass it is not cheap stuff. Starting to fire form for AI. and reload. Shawnhv I do not like or want Remington brass.

Not sure about that forecast by me,Colder this year that's what I heard also heard plenty of snow.I know we are above the average for the amount of rain this year by us ,so the more snow might be right.Hope not. Started cutting ,splitting and stacking also.

Here we go again.

Swaping cards, just a lot easier.I have mine marked red and others black, when I swap them, same color out at the same time.Just put them in the watch pocket of my jeans.Never lost any.

You have to understand it is a LAB thing,They just love to ride on or in anything they can fit on.I hope it was strapped on safely.Mine gets upset when he can't climb on my JD compact tractor.Or tell him he can't go in the PU it's too hot.,Loves to ride on the back of the ATV also. Only thing I am seeing by me is more road kill .

Another one an old timer showed us was to set up a target on something 25 yards away take a carptenters square draw a line level on the target then a plum bob and draw a line up and down in the middle of the level line. Now sight in on the cross hair you made. I still like mine as above the circle helps in lining up the bbl. These will get you close at 100 yards, but still need to actualy fire a few rounds to make sure.
-
This has worked for every bolt action rifle I ever owned. You need a sturdy table or bench, a vice or something to hold the rifle in 1 spot and a target 1foot square is fine.Measure out 75 feet or 25 yards. And set your target as close to the height of the rifle as you can.The target use white or other light colored paper With a black magic marker and a carptenders square make 1 vertical line and a line in the middle of that make a horoizontal line, Then with a paper coffee cup draw a circle in the center of that, a compass would work better. With the bolt out of the bbl. look threw it and center it on the target.now look threw the scope and line up the vertical line to get it lined up in that direction. Now adjust the scope in the horozintal direction. The thing is to get the hole in the bbl. lined up with the circle on the target as close as you can.I draw a number of circles with a compass.Walk away and come back and look and see if every thing is in the same spot.

Look at the map that Doc posted from the DEC it shows which areas.
-
Hey Doc wait till you get SOB and my age, then you realize why I do this when I see one . Been there don that.
-
Yep I had 3 the firs one was on them the other 2 were mine but they installed them.
-
The tests I spoke about were done with real rifles that could be carried from site to site, Not Rail Type Rifles that you would need a hand truck to move from place to place. We are talking Hunting type rifles here. And as said by me and others either the .308 or 30-06 caliber will be just fine for hunting in NY .

SOB go to Bowsite read what is right below your last comment There.

On L.I. some were a mile, one was 3 hours with 4 of us.In the Catskills most were short one was 2 hours. That was a gut shot.
-
If it is on your own property, a friends.A pop up blind is great, you can hunt in any kind of weather and do not have to spend big bucks on all kinds of camo clothes. If you go that route, do not get one of the outhouse size blinds, go big, something you can sit on something and shoot a bow or firearm.Kneeling down to shoot sucks. The more comfortable you make yourself the longer you can stay out there and your chances are better on getting something.
-
Buy a long bow or a recurve. When you get good with either you can shoot almost anything.
-
Here we go. Again.

If you get a tri pod get the most solid one you can find. A wobbley tri pod will drive you nuts trying to look at a target or game.

Any broad head that is kept sharp will work.I have used 2,3 and 4 blades all worked. When I was a Deer Search member most of the deer we were called to track and were recovered were Bad Hits.So what ever you use practice with them .
