  1. Good example why I reload, the first three in the picture are .243 AI. left to right 65gr.,75 gr.,85 gr.The BBL was bought for them weight bullets and chambered for the .243 in AI.. Next is a 6.5x55 145 gr. and the far right is a .358 Win. 225 gr. All are custom aftermarket barrels for them calibers . I spent the day yesterday cleaning, resizeing, primeing, loading for all three 5 rounds, around 20 of each.
  2. It's a shame about the bow, just consider yourself lucky all your body parts are there and working. You just might find a bow you like a lot better then the ruined one.
  3. The twist rat is how many inches it takes to make one complete revulation of a ( lets say a cleaning rod wit a patch for that caliber) Put the cleaning rod with a patch on it into the BBL.,put a mark on the top of the rod lengthwise and one a few inches back around the dia. of the rod now slowly push the rod to the end of the bbl. and move it until the line of the top of the rod winds up on top again put a mark on the dia. of the rod and pull it out and measure the distance between the two marks on the dia. of the rod.Lets say it moved 10 inches to make one complete turn. You now have a 1 in 10 twist BBL. Now look up and see what weight bullets work for that twist rate for your caliber. There is usualy a few weights that will work , But you have to find out what your BBL.iikes the best
  4. Trapping it is legal in NYS to use baits and scents,But you are trapping furbearers Not Deer or Bear and Rabbits , turkeys and other birds. I just hope the new hunters reading this post Read the Hunting Regulations for the game they are intending to hunt in NYS..Because if you do not you will be getting a visit from an ECON officer sooner and later and the fines are stiff , they just do not like shooting animals not legal to shoot over Bait and this is no BS it is the truth..

    To Warm

Hunted on L.I. Many times it was +10 warmer then up here, cotton clothing in the heat,And use unsented soap .Well the word here is for an unusual cold snap for the end of this month,so get the warm hunting clothes out just in case.
  6. Google the meaning of the word Hunting and you will see what I am saying is Correct.I could not give a hoot what they do in other states this is New York State, If you enjoy Shooting an animal over Bait . go to that state and do it.Do not bring Bad habits here.
  7. Shooting a deer or any other animal over a bait pile is an Insult to the word Hunting and the True Hunters. Is this sport getting like everything else in this world , Just sit on your fat butt and not work for what you need or want, put bait out and shoot an animal. Not for me in the few years I have left to enjoy HUNTING.
  8. In my 60 years of Hunting I never hunted over a bait pile. And most of the time I was got what I Hunted. Shooting an animal over a bait pile is SHOOTING an animal attracted to the bait, IT IS Not Hunting an animal. This post should have been titled Shooting Over A Bait Pile.
  9. The people that run the above mentioned stores + the local grain stores Love it when the people from down state come up during the hunting season, they are the ones who buy buy most of the grains, liquids and scented blocks a day or 2 before the hunting season starts.
  10. It is no longer Hunting, it is Shooting.
  11. 6' sq. min. it will be and at least 80" high.Yes enclosed with a real roof. Doc I built many a platform in trees over the years and never nailed or screwed into the trunks. I sandwitch the trunk with 6" planks and use threaded rod on each side of the trunk. Thanks for the suggestions, going out and starting on it.
  12. Home made wooden blind in a 3 fork tree, Do not need to go too high where the tree is.Was thinking 4' x 4' floor or should it be bigger, Needs windows or openings on all 4 sides and a roof. Has to have a swivel seat also. Grow had a bunch of pictures of her many home made ones but I cannot find them.
  13. 1 of 2 types of pistols, 1 of 4 types of bows, 1 of 2 different caliber shotguns and 1 or 2 of 4 different caliber rifles all depends on when and where.
  14. As I said in another post, some have so little you have to look to see any, Many have nothing,Berries are far and few between here a 2500 feet.
  15. My herman survivors I can't remember how old they are and the leather is like new. ( except for cuts and scrapes ) Every year this time of the year, I clean them and then heat them up with a hair dryer ( gets the oils into the leather ) then while warm put a good amount of Snow Proof or Mink Oil on rub it into the leather, let it dry for a while and wipe off the excess after an hour or so.
  16. That plus the longer the fletching the straighter it keeps the arrow in flight.
  17. Mix it with bird food put in the freezer a day or two now you have suet. For the birds.
  18. My bushnell trophy cam is a piece of Junk .Picture quality stinks. It only lasted 6 month before it went to pot. Have a Moultrie out all last winter and no problems. And good pictures
  19. They started 2 weeks ago and falling now in the catskills.
  20. I have many small 50' x50' to 100' x 100. I just keep moving my trail cams around and the deer hit them all. Just make them as I am cutting trees down for firewood. Clover seems to be what they hit the most all year long.
  21. Give your local PD a call they might know were to go.
  22. I just put the rifle cases in any of the hooks or compound on the inner top hooks and a long or recurve on the bottom. You just have to be careful the rifles or shotguns are longer then the ATV is wide unless you have a UTV. I use the almost every day all year long as long as the snow is not too deep.I have carried every thing you can think of,the back rack I use a lot for hauling Sap in 3 ea. 5 gallon buckets on the back. They work for me. On both the front and rear rack I welded links from a chain all over to attach bungee cord to hold things in place.
  23. Depending if it is early bow/Mz. loader season or late bow Mz. loader season your clothes are going to vary.Early you can get away with light cotton clothing.Late season And the weather predictions for this winter a COLD.That's when you get into layers of clothing,Walk to your intended spot to post in a base layer and something light over that, When you get to your spot Put your heavy Coveralls or Bib pants and Coat and a good warm Hat. You won't be all sweated up when you get there, being sweated up will just make you colder faster. For a first time in a spot I would buy a GPS well ahead of time and learn how to use it,You can get very twisted up going in the woods in day light and coming out at sunset,At least buy a compass if you can't afford a GPS.Still doing it after 60 years of going after game and still enjoying it. Have a safe hunting season and hope you score on that big one this year.
  24. Yes I did and you will have to wait a while before you get all of them all.
  25. Why do you need camo clothing , it's a monkey see monkey do thing,Do not have to have it, The most important piece of clothing would be an Orange hat when walking around and at least an Orange vest, more so on state land.A group of us have worn orange from head to toe for 50 years and shot more game then we can count.Better to be safe then shot at.Locals up here just wear regular work clothes and have no problem getting there game. Also a small back pack with other items mentioned in case you get twisted up and lost ( and it does happen).
