  1. Same here, they were even digging in the snow for the clover this year.I have a lot of smaller plots planted with the above and they go from one to the other. I planted 8 rows of corn and 8 of sunflowers and they were hitting the sun flowers more then the corn.
  2. Could also be an Autumn Olive,Deer Plum,Autumnberries , all the same tree by different names and deer love them, They produce fruit later then most fruit trees.
  3. Good info in the above post, I know by me the ground has so much clay in it plus stone in virgin soil you have to plow it first a disc will not go down deep enough by it's self.
  4. Congrats on the 30 -06 Ruger American . Try some ammo with 150 grain Sierra game king bullets and some 165 grain Serria game king bullets there are a number of factory loaded rounds with thoes bullets and see what the rifle likes the best. Enjoy.
  5. A regular .243 Win. can be fired in a rifle chambered for a .243 Ackley Improved cartrige. But a .243 Ackley Improved cartrige Cannot be fired in a Rifle chambered for a regular Regular .243 Win because it is a fire formed to a larger Dia. just below the neck and the neck angle is changed to a 40 degree angle which gives it about 5 % more capacity, 58 grain to 115 grain bullets can be used depending on the barrel twist rate.
  6. Where can you buy 1 pound of H4895 without paying as much or more for the shipping to the Catskill mountian area ?. Are there any stores that stock it ?.
  7. First of this year did it yesterday, some more boiling now.
  8. Now you know why the charge what they do for the real thing.I have 15 gallons ready to boil, had to go out of town today. That's what I do everything outside except the final boil.
  9. The thing you want to do is get the moisture away from your body an open weave tee shirt and boxer briefs will do that.LL Bean and sporting goods stores sell them. When the temps. go down below 30 deg. I wear them all winter under my merino wool or under shirts and bottoms. If you do any kind of outdoor activity in the cold weather you will notice the difference. The UA clothing I had went to the clothing bin at the transfer station after the second time I wore them.
  10. Not sure about 1 quart. I used 4 ea. 24 oz. mason jars by Me,myself and I, this past year. Got the rest of my buckets hung today.
  11. 1 st. it depends on your age,if you are an older dude as my self, I start getting cold fast.I have had many types of winter hunting clothes in the past and some very expensive.Light open weave base layer then a second layer of what you like over that and a good wool shirt.Predator bibs and coat with the wind break liner is light and warm. The warmest ( but on the heavy side ) is Sleeping Indian Design all wool bibs and coat again with the wind break liner. They have many options to choose from ( not cheap though). Another but not cheap is the hunting clothes from Wiggy's ( the sleeping bag manif.) His clothes are light but very warm.
  12. Set up some lines and some buckets the last few days It Started Flowing here yesterday. Can't get to most of the spots I want the snow is still too deep.We will see if the rain this weekend nocks the snow down.
  13. Not very, by me it's showing 1 - 3 inches, I was just out setting up buckets on trees and it is more like 8" deep.
  14. Been seeing them walking around before noon almost every day looking for a meal.
  15. Not just the birds and animals, fish also become very active before a storm or bad weather. We noticed this years ago in a friends bait and tackle store, the bait fish would become very active at thoes times.
  16. My property is not as big as stated above, but everyone has at least the size I have or more all around me and most are weekenders or summer people.Mostly wooded, oak, cherry, maple, beechnut, ash, pine, spruce and older apple trees for around a 2 mile circle and then all farm land around that. And they do log every few years. So if you do you home work you can find a smaller piece of heaven that still holds the wildlife around by keeping the habit the way that they like.
  17. My son and his best friend first year deer hunting both got a deer the same day.
  18. Congrats on the new bow and you have learned the hard way,I have always said shooting Groups is a waist of money more so with carbon arrows. My targets have 6 bullseyes on them and shoot at all six not just 1 circle.Enjoy and Practice,Practice.
  19. Elmo I do not know If you are talking about what I wrote for my .243 AI. but the heaviest for that caliber is 115 grains. With a 1-9 twist BBL.Which mine is not.
  20. There at the edge of the fields where the farmers are going to spread manure,That's what I have seen latley.A free meal.
  21. Versatile firearm Shotgun it is ,Caliber is the hunters choice for the game and distance and the location.I have had everything form a .17 centerfire to a .300Win. Mag. The 30 -06 had the most over the counter choices at the time. Now where I live and hunt and do not intend to shoot anything over 200 yards. I have a .243 AI. BBL twist limits from a 55 grain to a 85 grain, will cover every thing on my property except bear. The one I carry the most is my 6.5 x 55 Swede.Custom BBL. and Custom wood stock.Just finished reloading 100 ea.with 140 grain. bullets, If there are bear around I will take my .Custom Win. model 70 in a 358 Win.out, that I am reloading some 200 grain RN. and 225 grain balistic tips.
  22. Interesting and It was not a short term study.
  23. X2 on the above comment. SOB are you still down south?. The Ground Hog was right and we are still in for a more weeks of winter.
