  1. Looking forward to checking them out..I am a big fan of deer+deer hunting- rut prediction episode today is always informative and practical
  2. No love for the champagne of beers? High Life! My go to discount favorite
  3. I used to grab bits of raw meatballs my grandma would make ... Nobody could replicate her meatballs (cooked of course)- my wife even videotaped her making them and then tried to follow it...no lick. Her secret she always said was , "never wash your hands!"
  4. Are you ale to hunt him? Neighbors an issue?
  5. I use them all the time on public land...following random lights to some other guys spot!
  6. Real good point against skinning prior to bringing it to a processor.
  7. I like the idea of skinning in the field and then plastic tub/sheeting in the trunk with seats down- hide goes in another plastic bag for tanning later. A little leaky juices adds that nice "new kill" smell to the car!
  8. For all you SUV/minivan users who put the deer IN your car...what about ticks? Don't they end up all throughout your car? I think I would prefer to strap it to the roof (tastefully if possible)and deal with the critics as opposed to potentially subjecting myself and family to ticks for weeks later
  9. I was that lady (in the man version)last weekend...we were camping 1 hour from home. Nasty thunderstorm shows up out of the blue- wife takes the three kids and drives them home at 11:30pm- I stay to pack up site and head home the next day. She takes her car and kids leaving me my car with no gas and my wallet in HER car...rolled in to a station on fumes and counted $8.00 of quarters from my cup holder and seat cushions...just enough! Would you give me money too??? No baby in back and only a few tears!
  10. 4 ladders on 54 acres(lease) and one ground blind ... Only really takes one good one!!!!!
  11. Good ideas about the earphones and service boosters.
  12. Bubba..I get it and I knew that response was coming. We mostly bow hunt(can't hear the shot to know when to help). To just wonder over and check or just go on a certain time of day, could mess up their hunt. I'm actually happy the service is poor to keep me away from Tapatalk will on stand! I just wish there was a better way to stay informed with the party. I like hearing what others are seeing or not throughout the day.
  13. Bow-full camo...but. Also carry a backpack that is mostly blaze. It hangs in the tree with me. Bird/rabbit-orange vest and hat.
  14. So the area we leased has terrible cell service. I typically hunt with at least one other person and we stay in touch via text, but messages typically "time out" due to poor service and do not send. We are considering walkie talkies but hate the idea of the speaking, beeping, etc. associated with walkie talkies. Anyone want to invent a texting walkie talkie for me? Or do they exist already? The bigger question is how do you stay in touch with your hunting party if NOT by cell phone? We already have the string and paper cup set up so keep that suggestion to yourself! Haha!
  15. Funny...I hate the kitchenaid grinder- it always jammed and makes mush of the cubed pieces I put through even when partial froze. My best success come from an old hand grinder. I freeze meat for the grinder in one pound packs and grind as I need it.
  16. Thanks land... After the soak in the salt and alum for a week and rinse, what do you mean by fletch the hide....am I to re-scrape the flesh side again and then stretch and dry?
  17. Harriman state park..also lakes and not very private sites....but thanks
  18. Scrape the flesh.....salt it??? Brain tan it? Ring it? I can't really find a great tutorial for hair on hides...
  19. I used KOH(potassium hydroxide) as recommended from the deerskin into buckskin book by Matt Richards---great reference and my hides turned our pretty good for a first time.
  20. Thanks elo...did the water gap trip with my wife...not sure how the kids would do or honest,y how my wife would do navigating the canoe with one kid while I have two in mine... Lurking...I the you are revering to Clarence Fahnstock state park...that's out "regular" spot and we live all it has to offer(fishing, hiking, swimming beach n a lake,) Looking for something different.
  21. Any suggestions for a family of five (kids are 9&10) looking for beachfront camping. We live 20 minutes outside of NYC and are looking for tent sites near/along a swimming beach. Checked out montauk but are bot big ans of "parking lot" camping sandwiched between trailers and rvs. Willing to travel 4 hours or so. Spent some time on resrevamerica but their descriptions often don't give a real-feel write up
