All he needs to do is take a photo of his fingers and post it.

I might be out of touch with modern technology, but at least I'm not out of touch with reality.

Absolutely. I don't think there is a sniper dead or alive that would guarantee to be within an inch at 1000 yards. They make COMPLETE misses at long yardage quite often. I don't know where some of you guys are coming up with these notions that a rifle or shooter can be laser beam accurate at such extreme ranges??

How would you react to this situation? (Hunting permission)
steve863 replied to regulat0r's topic in Deer Hunting
LOL. At least it's not the husband servicing the handyman (along with the dog) just so he could get to hunt it. And that would be rights to hunt only one acre. -
I would agree that the habitat isn't great, but there surely aren't nearly as many hunters in this area as there used to be. Not even close. In fact it's pretty much a ghost town after the first weekend in the area I hunted. And the decrease in hunters already started 5-10 years or more ago, so I can't imagine things have gotten any better. We know that the bowhunters don't kill too many deer, and since there are less hunters in general, I just can't see how the DEC justifies giving out even LESS doe tags with every passing year in this area.

Good luck trying to find access in some of these units. Also, some of these units are bow only which will not help those who hunt with gun only. We shouldn't forget that the majority of hunters out there are still the gun hunters. Seems like the bowhunters get more of the perks these days with the longer season, can legally take a deer of either sex, etc., while the gun hunter seems to be getting less and less for his hunting license dollar. Not exactly fair in my opinion, but I doubt the DEC will listen to me.

I honestly don't know how many shooters or rifles are capable of 1 inch groups at 500 yards? I'm sure even snipers with top notch equipment couldn't do this consistently. At those distances groups will start opening up. Lots of wind doping at those type of ranges also. I love watching those 1000 yard kills on youtube. What they don't show you is all the misses they probably had before they actually connected on something. Even snipers can take a crapload of shots before they actually connect.

According to the specs the barrel is 16.125 inches. https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/lever-action-22-carbine-rifle/ Did you shorten it to an even 16? LOL If I were a rifle being brought to Buckmaster, I'd feel like a horse being brought in to be gelded! LOL

Oh, and that's what I use to sight in my gun. If I can get 2 out of 10 shots into it at 25 yards I am ready to go huntin'!!
-
I'm assuming you'll be planting a food plot in it? And that would be for the deer, right??
-
Here's a nice sized plate we can fill up with custard pie for all the big boys, oops I mean fellas with big appetites here on the forum. Guaranteed to give you 1/2 inch groups at 1200 yards!!

Some kids are born with silver spoons in their mouths. Biz was born with a Weatherby in his hands! LOL

I tell you, I hear all these people these days claiming that their fancy new rifles can shoot into the same hole at incredible yardage, yet whenever I am at the range and I look over at their targets, their groups are no better than mine and in many cases worse. And I sure as hell am not claiming that I can shoot 1 inch groups at 250 yards!!
-
I once got a 5 shot group into 1 inch at 200 yards with a varmint barrelled 22-250. I think the stars and the moon were aligned just right that day and it helped make this happen. Don't ask me to do it again, however. LOL

What were they doing to the woods in the 70's and 80's that they aren't doing now? When has there been a lot of logging in the Catskills? The DEC has been reducing the amount of DMP's in the area for a number of years now. The amount they give out gets lower every year. I can't believe that the deer numbers haven't increased in this region no matter if the woods are overgrown or not. I would think things should have started to move in the right direction as far as deer numbers without DMP's being issued. Add to this the AR restrictions and the fact that fewer hunters in general our out hunting compared to the 70's and 80's, there should be more deer running around than ever before.
-
The Catskills region is honestly a waste of time to hunt during gun season. Between antler restrictions and the lack of doe tags there isn't much left that is legal to shoot at.

Wow, this is impressive. Being that there was snow on the ground I would imagine it was quite cold? Seems like she still had enough to grip onto to spell it all out neatly and legibly enough to make her handwriting recognizable!!

I think I've forgotten that one, but knowing how many guys on this forum dream big bucks 24/7, I am sure there has been more than one that has soiled themselves when that big buck started to stroll into sight. Even a fork horn could do the trick for some! Only the person doing their laundry will ever know the whole story! LOL

Burt told me that he is still having plumbing problems after your last visit.

I shot a deer once doing number 2 with my pants down around my ankles. So doing it under someones stand may not mess things up for them.

Yeah, I've heard about this. I can just visualize us poor suckers. We know that she is having her cycle, since we haven't gotten any the last few days and we see all the sanitary napkins lying around within reach of the toilet bowl. We then knock on the bathroom door, crack it open a bit and hand her a bottle while asking her if she'd be so kind to help us out for our next hunting trip. LOL

67 acres for sale. Old Chatham Ny, Columbia Co
steve863 replied to Eddie 33's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
I was just kidding about the big buck. I'm happy with any deer I could legally shoot! I said that just to fit in with all the big buck slayers here. The real reason I want to set up on the border of the property was to keep an eye on the neighbors.- 54 replies

Down here where I live it seems like the Koreans and Chinese are buying everything. Have had a number of cute Chinese/Korean female real estate agents come knocking at my door wanting to put my house up for sale. I'll send them up to you, Culver. I think they'll do anything to make the sale!! LOL- 54 replies
