  1. Yeah, BS talk is cheap. They also tell us to kill a doe instead of that spike or forkhorn. Maybe I would if I had a stinking doe permit!
  2. Is it just my imagination or are doe permits in most of the Catskill units becoming virtually impossible to get? Many of the units are now preference-point required, which means you will be lucky to get a permit every other year. Add to all this the antler restrictions rule and all one will be likely get while out deer hunting in that region is fresh air. To hell with that!
  3. I've only watched a season or two of the "Mountain Men" series that they had streaming on Netflix, but Eustace definitely looks like the biggest fraud on the show. For one thing he lives in South Carolina which isn't exactly an area in the middle of nowhere like Alaska or Montana can be. I bet the nearest McDonalds or Pizza Hut is no further than a few miles away for him. The same can't be said about the guys in Alaska. I did watch that episode where Eustace had to appear in court and then rode his horse into town in between all the car traffic. Give me a break!! If that wasn't staged, I don't know what else might have been! For someone who is supposed to be a great "Mountain man", he sure screws things up a lot.
  4. Better yet, if he could have borrowed a chimp and had him wrap himself around his neck he could have been cast as "Tarzan".
  5. Oh, believe me. I don't think a bow is very effective past 25 or 30 yards, but I don't want to rile up all the bow hunters here who think they could hit a fly in the eye at 50 yards.
  6. If you buy one of the better bows, plus all the rest of the contraptions you will spend close to what you'd pay for a Weatherby. All that loot, and you'll be able to kill deer out to a whopping distance of 50 yards (if you are good shot that is)! LOL That is why I'll stick to my rifle, thank you. Tried the bowhunting thing, but never became this obsession that others seem to claim. My .02 cents.
  7. It's not my life, but if one continues stunts like this it will be only a matter of time before one miscalculates something and the result may lead to some unpleasant consequences. I think dying from the accident would probably be the better outcome, since one wouldn't be a burden on anyone in comparison to surviving and being a vegetable for many years into the future. Again, it's not my life, but I hate seeing people taking dangerous chances just for the brief thrill of it.
  8. Yeah, I think Biz flashed the gay guy that's why he got discounts.
  9. The watch I wear while I hunt is a solid black Casio that I bought for $19.99 at Walmart. Tells me the time of the day (even gives me the month and date!) just as good as a Rolex would.
  10. That's because most people have been programmed since childhood to eat beef, pork, chicken, etc. Not many other than hunters are even willing to try venison. That is their loss and not mine. No matter what FSW thinks that hunting is all about "horns", I for one hunt for the venison before anything else.
  11. That there is probably the issue with the venison for you. Grilled is NOT the best way to prepare it. Put it in a pan and prepare it right and backstrap will literally melt in your mouth.
  12. Not for me. Steak is boring. Cook up some backstrap the way it should be cooked up and I'll take it over beef any day of the week. The problem is most people have never eaten well prepared venison, so they don't have much to compare to.
  13. Hey FSW, how much per lbs of venison? Can you kill, butcher and package for me? Willing to pay extra for that since I won't have to get my hands dirty or use up any ammo.
  14. If that's how someone wants to kill a deer, I don't think we can stop them. However, he sure as hell won't get a congratulations from me for his "hunting" accomplishment, because it really isn't much of an accomplishment. I guess earning or having enough money to go to a place like that might be, but we are talking about "hunting" accomplishment here. I would congratulate the guy who shot the scrawniest of free-ranging deer well before the guys killing these fenced up bucks on steroids. Do the ear tags have barcodes on them so they could ring you up at the cash register when you have him hauled back to checkout? LOL
  15. So complementing the guy for his fantastic photo skills, let alone his hunting skills, which proves to me that he "walks the walk" when it comes to nature, wildlife AND hunting above many others around here in your eyes is wanting to "date him"? Obviously you are jealous that he has some fans around here while you don't. Believe me, I am holding myself back here from really ripping into you, but I will leave it at this.
  16. So what's your problem with my statement?? You told him to "settle down, Francis" after his first statement and Jerkman told him to take a Midol. All I did was to come to the defense of one of the few people I actually respect around here. Not that he needs any defending since Wooly can handle himself quite well around here. Tough noogans if you have an issue with that.
  17. You know what they say about stereotypes not being too far off from the actual truth? Definitely holds for hunters, eventhough most will never admit it. They don't get portrayed as fumbling bafoons for nothing, this I can assure you!!
  18. The thing is, Wooly is a hunter/naturalist, while the rest of you are hunter/killers. Most here seem to need food plots, game cams, 100 treestands, etc. in order to kill a deer, while Wooly can find deer and any other sort of living critter just by casually strolling thru the woods. That's a HUGE difference in my book. His superb nature photographs are all the proof I need to put him miles ahead of most anyone on this forum. He knows nature and wildlife and respects it. This is something that I admire more than those who only post pictures of their kills.
  19. Did you guys know that Wooly is General Custers's great great grandson? If you didn't now you do.
  20. The only constitution I could see you guys putting together is the one that takes place in your bathrooms in the morning. LOL And I'm sure some of you struggle with that one, too.
  21. That would be quite a spectacle. Have greater minds ever been assembled in one room?
  22. This has got to be the joke of the week around here or something? If Trump is such a great example of a christian, I could probably consider myself St. Peter. Or at least St. Hubert for crying out loud! Then you guys call liberals a bunch of sheep? I think you guys are even more gullible than they are.
  23. It definitely drives people away. Many who still have access to private land may not realize it, but it's only a matter of time before they start losing more and more access. It WILL happen. Pretty much the only way you'll get to hunt private land is if you own it or lease it. Owning land and paying taxes on it year in and year out for the sole purpose of hunting on it doesn't make much sense to most people. You could go on good outfitted hunts for many years for the cost (purchase price, taxes, maintenance) of even a small chunk of land in this state. Leases definitely would be more sensible if the cost was within reason, but with today's trophy mentality landowners might see a decent buck killed on their property and all of a sudden they'll think their land is a Texas ranch and will increase lease prices to a premium. Hunters will then have to be hunting harder to find affordable leases every year or two than they will for the deer, turkey, etc they planned on hunting. For many people this will get old real fast and they'll probably give it up. I sure can't blame them either.
  24. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. You can have youth hunts, old folks hunts, give out free hunting licenses, you name it, it won't matter one tiny bit. There is simply no room and not enough game for all hunters to be hunting public land so without private land access readily available or for no more than a modest price tag for leases, since that's where things are going with private land access, I don't think hunter numbers will be going up anytime soon. All I've seen is hunter numbers going down over the last 20 years, and a major reason for people giving it up is because they no longer can find private land to hunt. As I said you could give these people free licenses for themselves, their kids, grandkids, and youth hunts once every other week, it won't be bringing too many of these folks back if they can't find private land to hunt.
  25. Oh my goodness!! You guys must be a bunch of pansies. Look, I am man enough to apologize if what I posted offended anyone. The guys I know have no issues calling each other fat, ugly, stupid or whatever else we feel like calling each other. No one is perfect and we are comfortable in our own skins. Obviously you guys are sensitive souls, so I will try to be more careful in what I say around here when I do decide to make a post.
