  1. I once got a 5 shot group into 1 inch at 200 yards with a varmint barrelled 22-250. I think the stars and the moon were aligned just right that day and it helped make this happen. Don't ask me to do it again, however. LOL
  2. What were they doing to the woods in the 70's and 80's that they aren't doing now? When has there been a lot of logging in the Catskills? The DEC has been reducing the amount of DMP's in the area for a number of years now. The amount they give out gets lower every year. I can't believe that the deer numbers haven't increased in this region no matter if the woods are overgrown or not. I would think things should have started to move in the right direction as far as deer numbers without DMP's being issued. Add to this the AR restrictions and the fact that fewer hunters in general our out hunting compared to the 70's and 80's, there should be more deer running around than ever before.
  3. The Catskills region is honestly a waste of time to hunt during gun season. Between antler restrictions and the lack of doe tags there isn't much left that is legal to shoot at.
  4. Wow, this is impressive. Being that there was snow on the ground I would imagine it was quite cold? Seems like she still had enough to grip onto to spell it all out neatly and legibly enough to make her handwriting recognizable!!
  5. I think I've forgotten that one, but knowing how many guys on this forum dream big bucks 24/7, I am sure there has been more than one that has soiled themselves when that big buck started to stroll into sight. Even a fork horn could do the trick for some! Only the person doing their laundry will ever know the whole story! LOL
  6. Burt told me that he is still having plumbing problems after your last visit.
  7. I shot a deer once doing number 2 with my pants down around my ankles. So doing it under someones stand may not mess things up for them.
  8. Yeah, I've heard about this. I can just visualize us poor suckers. We know that she is having her cycle, since we haven't gotten any the last few days and we see all the sanitary napkins lying around within reach of the toilet bowl. We then knock on the bathroom door, crack it open a bit and hand her a bottle while asking her if she'd be so kind to help us out for our next hunting trip. LOL
  9. I was just kidding about the big buck. I'm happy with any deer I could legally shoot! I said that just to fit in with all the big buck slayers here. The real reason I want to set up on the border of the property was to keep an eye on the neighbors.
  10. Yeah, I'm in also. I plan to set up my treestand right on the border of the property, since that's where I heard the big buck was hanging out.
  11. Down here where I live it seems like the Koreans and Chinese are buying everything. Have had a number of cute Chinese/Korean female real estate agents come knocking at my door wanting to put my house up for sale. I'll send them up to you, Culver. I think they'll do anything to make the sale!! LOL
  12. The other thread discussed whether hunting land is a good or bad investment. I wonder what people would think about this chunk of land? LOL I don't think there is a hunter alive who would pay this kind of money for 67 acres. Your only bet will be to sell it to some sort of developer who would convert it to housing or something else. Hunters or hunting clubs wouldn't spend this kind of loot for only 67 acres. Good luck with the sale, you will need it.
  13. Glad you didn't say Aaron Judge was up!
  14. You said that he doesn't hunt as often as you, so maybe you can bring the dog when he isn't there and leave him at home when he does hunt? I think this would be a simple enough solution. In a partnership, marriage or any relationship one has to make compromises or else they won't last long. You can't always have it your way.
  15. That's a beauty!! Whatever you do don't let Buckmaster borrow it. He'll circumsize the barrel to 16 inches for sure!! LOL o O
  16. Not quite! It's a Mosin Nagant.LOL. I got it at Cabelas in PA for $25 after my Cabelas points. Couldn't resist getting it. Shoots better than I expected. Would not think twice hunting with it if I had nothing else. Could always finish the deer off with the bayonet and not have to waste a round!!
  17. I don't know if it's sentiment or the knowledge that a newer gun won't kill them any deader, but I've used the same gun since 1985 when I bought it. A Remington 700 BDL in .270 with Leupold 3-9 VX II. I've used more expensive ammo in the past, but have gone back to standard Federal Power Shock 130 grain which in my experience seems to work just as good as anything else.
  18. I'm getting the feeling that you and Nomad might be light in your loafers. LOL
  19. LOL!! You and Doe are killing me! Where is Belo to defend his right to own lots of shoes?? LOL
  20. Mayweather shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as some of the great fighters from the past. Here's one of the greatest fights of the 70's. George Foreman vs. Ron Lyle. The real pounding begins after 14:00. I know these guys are heavyweights, but I'd just like to see Mayweather face a slugger of their caliber. They'd have to remove him from the arena by ambulance. I consider Foreman maybe the greatest fighter of all time. Maybe he didn't hold a title as long as some others, but he was able to come back years later and still have incredible power and stamina and even win back a title. Plus, all the others like Ali, Frazier, Norton, Lyle, Quarry are long dead while Foreman is alive and well and still has all his sensibilities.
  21. Thank you, you've nailed it right there!
  22. A lease for hunting land is NOTHING like renting an apartment. You are simply paying some money for a recreation you want to participate in. You wouldn't be living on it like you would be doing in an apartment. Once you don't want the lease, you simply don't renew it. Case closed and no headaches unlike land that you would now have to try to sell if you owned it. For myself any hunting land I'd purchase would be at least 2 or 3 hours drive from where I live. My wife would surely not be interested in going to it more than once or twice a year, and with school and other activities the kids would probably not be able to go more than that either. So for whom would I be purchasing this land for?? Just myself for the few trips a year I'd go hunting? Would make absolutely NO sense, and quite honestly be a bit selfish. Kids grow up fast, and I think it would be more beneficial to them and the whole family to be closer to them at this stage of life then me killing weekends by going upstate all by myself to check out the land. That's my take on it anyway.
  23. You might make some money with property, but without a doubt it will be a much bigger headache than most other ways one can invest their money!
