  1. How do ZERO DMP's sound to you? You should try hunting some of these areas in the Catskills and tell us how many bucks you could see? Typically you don't get to see many bucks at all, let alone ones with 3 points to a side. You guys in western NY may have scores of deer marching by you most every time out, but I could assure you that isn't what it's like in the Catskills. If you are not allowed to shoot smaller bucks, and have few doe permits issued, the hunter might as well stay home and not waste his time.
  2. All I will say is to HELL with AR's and this past weekend proved it to me more than ever! Instead of wasting my time in the Catskills where I wouldn't be allowed to shoot anything I was invited up to forum member Culver Creek Hunt's Club cabin (non AR region) this past weekend and I shot myself a buck that wouldn't qualify under AR's. I for one could care less how many points a deer wears on his head. Thanks to Culver's gracious invitation I got myself a freezer full of venison and had a super great and memorable weekend up at his place. I tell you all, it would be hard to find a more generous, hospitable and friendly guy than him! So the moral here is that AR's may make some trophy obsessed people happy thinking that they will sooner than later kill that monster buck, but the honest truth is that many of those people will NEVER know what hunting should really be all about!!
  3. Since he last took those pics he added satellite dishes on top of each box. I think he said he's got the porno channels, so the rain and wind won't bother anyone occupying them. LOL
  4. I guess that wouldn't technically fall under the "lying" category. It's more like just not telling the whole truth. LOL
  5. Oh man is this accurate! Guys have a deer or two under their belts and then they start passing everything up waiting for that monster buck. There is absolutely NOTHING that beats shooting at and putting deer down to build up your experience. Shooting at targets, seeing kills on TV or playing the scenario in your head how you will nail that deer simply doesn't cut it. Until you've got at LEAST 20 deer under your belt (probably more), you really don't have a lot of experience in my opinion.
  6. Well, I guess what I would agree with you on is that talk is cheap. It always has been. Plenty of people claim that they will only shoot deer of a certain size, etc. and then when the season is winding down and they haven't connected on anything they end up taking something way smaller just so they don't end the season deerless. What one says they will do, and what one ends up doing are two different animals. Also, never discount the LIES a hunter can tell. Just because you didn't welcome people in your hunting club that had the reputation of wounding deer doesn't mean you didn't have people wounding deer. Someone claiming to have shot and missed a deer could have very well wounded a deer. If you looked down on the guy who did wound deer, he was probably more apt to lie and not tell you that he did actually wound a deer. He may have said. "yeah I shot, but shot way over him, or a limb deflected my shot". Go prove it one way or the other.
  7. Absolutely agree. I don't go back as far as Pygmy, but I do go back a ways and I sure don't remember hunters back then needing to go to therapy like some seem to need today if they wounded a deer. No one liked losing one, but if it happened it happened. You moved on. Today hunters talk about waiting for deer with big enough antlers, not shooting young ones, waiting for the deer to give a perfect angle before the shot, etc., etc. Back then if you saw ANY deer that you had a tag for you shot at it. Not much thought or debate about it as you have today. So maybe someone could tell me how exactly were the ethics better back then??
  8. I bet some of the heavy set fellas on here with their man boobs could carry concealed like that. LOL
  9. Biz, let me be the first to make you an offer on the one you currently have. My bid is $75. I would have given you $100 if you actually killed something with it this season. LOL
  10. I've been on this forum for a number of years now. A given here every Fall is Lawdwaz putting a nice buck down. Sometimes two. He does it every year. Very impressive to say the least!
  11. Did you test his blood for diabetes?? Wow, that is one hog of a big bodied deer!!
  12. Yeah, but I've never heard them bitching about anything. They disappear into the woods and mind their own business.
  13. Honestly, you are making a number of assumptions with your statement. There probably are some that take shots that they shouldn't, but there are others who typically don't. I don't know any hunter with a good bit of experience under his belt who hasn't blown a shot at least a time or two in their careers. Maybe this was one of them??? It isn't pretty, but $#!+ can happen to the best of us.
  14. Yes, so this would give each landowner an additional buck tag no matter how much land they own. But would they get any more buck tags than that? I'm not seeing that. Surely isn't anything like someone getting an ADDITIONAL buck tag for every 50 acres they own. In that scenario someone like Buckmaster with 300 acres would be given 6 buck tags, which I would not be in favor of.
  15. Where does it say that you can get an extra buck tag for every 50 acres or any acres? From what I see you get 1 general tag, which I guess would be the buck tag, and 3 antlerless tags. Says nothing about more buck tags than that. Even in NYS a landowner could get landowner preference and draw a doe tag in areas where other non-landowners might have a difficult time drawing one. Giving out buck tags for every 50 acres would be a complete game changer in so many ways in my opinion. $#!+, many of us can't even draw a doe tag and now people want additional buck tags for every 50 acres???
  16. You are saying that a property owner/leaser should get an extra buck tag for every 50 acres of land? What state allows something like that? I've never heard of any? In a number of western states even residents have to go thru a draw for a buck tag, so I'd like to know which are the states that give out buck tags per acres of land??
  17. The ONLY fair way would be to not allow bowhunters to use their bow tag on a doe. Why should they be the only ones allowed to take a doe in a region where the DEC feels that few should be taken? Others have suggested this in the past on other threads, but why not have doe tags be on a draw for everyone in these regions, and not just for the gun hunters? If you burn the doe tag during bow season, you won't have one during the gun season. Simple solution that should please everyone.
  18. To HELL with that idea!! In the past 10 or so years in the Catskill region where I've generally hunted, I've seen antler restrictions implemented, you have slim chances of drawing a doe permit and now they want to shorten the gun season? Maybe someone can give me a good reason why I should even buy a hunting license at all? And please, I don't want anyone giving me the BS that I should go out and start bowhunting where I could use the tag on a doe. Why should only bowhunters get the privilege of taking a doe? And of course shortening the gun season would also probably benefit bowhunters more than anyone else. Sure as hell ain't benefiting the gun hunters!!
  19. If you do get to see him, you better not miss him then. Instead of you mounting him, he may try mounting you! LOL
  20. Congrats to your Dad, Biz!! Nice deer. Now if he was on the other side of the river in the Catskills, he wouldn't have been able to shoot at this one because of antler restrictions. This proves what a joke AR's are since your Dad's 4 point has nicer sized antlers than some 6 or 8 pointers that hunters ARE allowed to shoot at.
  21. I don't know how many deer you have shot, but I WILL guarantee you that if you shoot another 100 thru both lungs with a rifle, 99% of them won't go as far as 200 yards. The caliber of the gun probably won't matter, neither. So the one that did go 200 yards on you is a very rare bird.
  22. I think some of you are over thinking this blood trail issue here. So are some of you saying that people shouldn't hunt with proven deer calibers like a .270 and .30-06 because deer don't bleed enough shot with these rounds? What type of blood trails are you expecting? The only time you will be following blood is if you made a poor shot. I know $#!+ can happen, but the goal should be to make a hit where you won't be needing to trail blood. If you hit a deer where you are supposed to behind the shoulder in the vitals, he may run a bit, but in the majority of cases he will drop within sight and there will be absolutely no need to trail blood. Exactly how much blood would you expect if a deer dashes for 50-100 yards after a mortal hit and then drops dead? The deers movement alone may restrict blood from flowing out. And a deer can cover 50-100 yards awful quick! In my opinion, if you hit the deer where you are supposed to, the amount of blood that will pour out of it won't matter in the least.
  23. I love it! Many say that it's all about the antlers, but guess what? It isn't! I think the sooner a hunter realizes this, the more enjoyment they will get out of hunting.
