  1. Sold the cabin in the spring. Been limited to state land and one piece of private land in 8J. I pretty much gave up on the state land last weekend. The private land kinda sucks this year, because it's just a couple small woodlots surrounded by a huge picked soybean field. The woodlots are small enough that you can see through them with the snow. Last year it was decent, because the farmer had corn standing until Thanksgiving, so the deer had more cover. Huge goldenrod field across the road, so there's always hope a buck will chase a doe over. No sign of seeking or chasing at all yet. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  2. Just a squirrel in the past 2hrs! Come on already rut!!!! I will probably wet myself when I finally see some seeking or chasing!!!!! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  3. Back in the stand. Cold, but it stopped snowing, the sun is out and the wind died right down. Hopefully the deer get on their feet!! Not sure how much gas I have left in the tank... Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  4. Really haven't decided. I know of 2-3 real nice ones around, but other than that, it'll depend how I feel at the moment (AND how cold, tired and frustrated I am)! I've been out 35 times so far with the bow, logging 127 hours in the stand. Needless to say, my frustration level is pretty high right now.... .
  5. Great story Buckmaster7600!! That's hard core dude! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  6. Had a meeting today that I hated to cancel, so I went in to work. Gazed out at the fresh snow and sunny blue sky all day, thinking about all I "could" be missing in the stand. I got out of the meeting at 2:00 and was in my stand by 2:30. Looking out the office window all day, I had NO idea how F'n bitterly cold it was! That wind was brutal!! I was only out for 2 1/2 hrs, but I was freezing!!! Didn't see a thing.
  7. Out in stand at 2:00. Never saw a thing! Sleet and freezing rain!
  8. Should a grunt call be considered an "instrument"... Hmmmmm. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  9. Pretty bad when my only source of entertainment is watching a squirrel 366 yards away across a cut soybean field with the binos! Yeah, I'm so bored that I ranged him, what's the big deal??? LOL Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  10. Cold and the snow has started. No deer yet... Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  11. Great buck no matter what the #'s!!
  12. Homestretch before gun season to gitter done! Weatherman says 6-10" of snow, starting around lunch.
  13. Congrats KMurph332!! Must have been a great day seeing 8 bucks!! DAMN!! I need one of those days!!
  14. I really needed a day to reset, so I slept in this morning. Took meds as I was so use to getting up at 4am EVERY day! Slept in and got my hunting things together for gun season. Went out to a spot this afternoon that I haven't hunted much, as I didn't think it would be very promising this year. As of last week, it was pretty dead. I ended up seeing a big buck at 3:30 at 66 yards but the wind shifted and he got a wiff and boogied out. At 4:00, I saw another deer that I suspect was a buck trotting across a distant cut soybean field. At 4:20, I had a small 8pt and 5pt 30 yards away that I decided to pass on. The best hunt of the season for me! The trailcam pics pretty much confirm my lack of rut activity I haven't seen ANY seeking or chasing yet!! Does are still with fawns, no bucks trailing does or showing any interest in does, a couple big bucks and a couple small bucks still hanging together, and little daytime activity. In addition, the 3 bucks that I saw tonight didn't show any interest in my doe decoy! They looked her over, but just wandered off!!
  15. My Dad's baby, his Remington .300 Win Mag. I would feel guilty using anything else... Another year without my hunting partner.
  16. I just sent the previous post, looked to my right and saw either this buck or a slightly smaller one 66 yards to my right, looking at my decoy! Unfortunately, he was downwind and jumped back into the woods!! Damn it!!! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  17. Had a beauty show up a few nights ago ~75 yards from my stand, about 30 min after dark. Hoping he'll make a mistake one of these days. Gonna concentrate on this stand for the next couple of weeks. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  18. Lots of shooting this afternoon! Sounds like guys are getting sighted in for next weekend! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  19. Just checked a couple cams that have been out for 4 days. Definitely an increase in activity, mostly at night. Does are still with fawns. Only one spike trailing a doe. All other bucks were alone and didn't appear to be trailing or have any interest in does!!! Confirms why I haven't been seeing all this seeking and chasing that guys are reporting in other areas! Last year, I didn't see any bucks seeking or chasing until opening day of gun season. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
  20. My son lived and hunted in Bath for the past 3 years. He moved there to be close to work. There are some huge bucks that come out of that area! That being said, the Bath area has a really bad reputation, shall we say.... Trying to be as polite and tactful as possible for people that might live there. He got to the place where he was embarrassed to tell people that he lived there! He rented an apartment from a state trooper and he warned us about Bath! As soon as someone mentions Bath, you know it's going to be bad! If I had to make that decision, I would certainly choose to be in the Bristol/Canandaigua area. There's great hunting and bucks in that whole area! My son recently bought a house in Canandaigua. There's so much to do in that area and it's beautiful too! Good luck!
  21. OMG... That's how many deer I've seen all season combined, in 31 hunts!!!
  22. If you don't want to plaster the property line with posted signs, how about pink surveyors tape? That's a subtle hint of where the property line is, incase he really isn't sure. I think I would put a couple very visible treestands too, facing your property, to let him know that someone hunts over there.
