if your worried about deer getting spooked maybe build a little makeshift survival shelter kinda thing for it and drag it in when you get to the other side if you build it early enough the deer will just be used to it

Hunted deer season in westchester and heard shots every now and again. Didnt think u could at the time but i know for sure some of the land i was on was bow only and onxe saw a guy puttin his firearm away. Kinda ticked me off a little cause i hunt westchester to get away from the gun season.

So I got my hands on 2 pounds of Venison and made dinner for the family, wife was all to happy to let me cook . It was funny as hell to watch her eat as she tried to pick around the venison not sure if she wanted to eat bambi. but eventually she caved and actually liked it. woman is weird I tell ya, one minute she wants to hunt with me the next she is a flaming liberal talking about how guns are bad whenever someone kills someone, now she wants a shotgun, women. but the meal came out pretty good. tried to cut what I thought was all the fat off but I think I got something wrong. cooked it in a slow cooker and on some of the meat there was a layer OVER the actual meat that was quite noticeable once cooked that tasted very slimy (did I cook it wrong or do I need to peel more meat away to get all that off?) Gamey taste? Wth is that cause my meat didn't taste like anything but beef, not really beef either hard to explain but felt like it took more of the flavor of my seasoning. One whole onion cup of hickory bbq sauce 1 1/2 cups of water 3 carrots half a head of cabbage salt / pepper green seasoning I cant think of the name (basil?) 1 chicken cube just kinda winged it and let it cook on low for about 7 hours low then 1 hour on high cause dinner time was close. the two year old went straight for the meat and wouldn't stop, the 5 year old did his usual play with the food. like I said came out pretty well considering its the first time but I know it can be done better with more flavor, just gotta figure out the tricks. my main gripe as my wife was the slimy layer over some of the meat. cant wait till the season starts so I can try and fill my freezer, gonna have a good time cooking that up.

Actually I don't see NY promoting anything "outdoors" im 34 years old and recently started camping/Hiking/Hunting and stumbled upon it because I wanted to find things for my kids to do. NY has a program called NY Park Rangers or something and we did a family camping thing with them but the only reason I found that is because I am a googler (that a word) and work for a quasi city agency that does a lot of advertising but I have NEVER seen a positive thing about the outdoors in ny. ok maybe not never, I saw an add about upstate recently so ima step back and say it RARE. as far as fishing and hunting for me, it has been a natural progression because I don't want my kids to be video game playing couch potatoes like I was growing up. I hear Cuomo talking about doing it, but he seems to be doing it small scale. and a license plate for "adventurers" doesn't count as advertising in my book. most new Yorkers wont think twice about a cute dear on a plate.

wanted to make my own ropes and saw online about a place called BMO Rescue. I knew nothing and they walked me through what I would need. told the guy it was for a treestand and got 20 feet line and something for a prusik (sp) knot learned how to tie knots by watching you tube and stuck em on my treestand and jumped off the tree at like 5 feet with my wife watchin me like I was an idiot.

im hoping long island has a something like that happen if they try it hehe.. I was planning on heading up to the public land up there. anyone going have any luck? I spoke to a ranger out there and he said its like a 1 in 5 chance of getting a deer from last years estimates and they cleaned a lot out... soooo im guessing public land up their wont be to great... praying different cause I wana spend 3 days up there

I know many people who grew up with their mothers getting public assistance, went to college off financial aid or military money, got great jobs, own their own homes, pay taxes like everyone else, send their kids to private schools, me being one of them. are their abuses of the system, damn straight. like a lotto winner who continued to draw benefits now she is broke and cant get em. but just like winning the lotto, the big abusers are rare, the small time ones are a bit easier to spot.

permanent ladder stands on public property?
Vince1 replied to Fingerlakesman's topic in Deer Hunting
I personally wouldn't use someone else stand just because I don't want to fall outa the damn thing. but if someone else uses my stand and im not around I wouldn't care so much I guess. do I want them using it. hell no, don't want anyone screwing up my spot. would I be pissed, yup. but it is public land, I would be just as pissed if they were hunting from the ground under my stand. not over property issues, just me being a big baby. would I visibly show it, hell no caus3e its public land. someone using your stand is so much better than someone stealing your stand. if its an issue take the bottom sticks when you leave. -
pick up a bow, it will extend your season by a month or so. cheers and welcome

I myself live in the city and never even thought about hunting till I started camping and picked up a bow because I always played a ranger/hunter type character in rpgs, I was a HUGE gamer. one day I looked at my boys and saw they were going down the same route. dropped the joystick and now they LOVE going scouting with me and camping. seems to me that the only PR I have ever seen is from people against hunting. now im the guy at my job who hunts and cant stop talking about it. lotta people who would love to hunt if you introduce it to em or at least get em interested. heard about a group like that but I think most of that happens out west.
