I've only had luck with bleat can( in my 4 whole years of hunting) had a very nice buck come to 50 yards tearing his way through the brush and grunting last year. I don't pull them out till the beginning of rut. I did get a small 4 pt to grunt back chasing a doe at 100 yard last year but he was too busy.

25.06 will work just fine, under 50 yards possibly a little meat loss cause those bullets are high velocity, I use Hornaday american whitetail 117gr Interlock.

I got a few boxes of that 25.06 americal whitetail back in August at dicks for 17.99, usually around 35 a box for any 25.06! Shoots under an inch at 100, plus the brass is nice for when I start reloading.
