I’ve used Turnpike Ridge Outfitter and was never disappointed. Probably using them about 15 years and never been skunked

I use deer scent but I get mine from a deer farm and it works great. Store bought scents have, preservatives in them to give them shelf life.

Has anyone used one of those heaters in a blind?
bruno1 replied to Sir-diealot's topic in General Hunting
When I was hunting in Saskatchewan the outfitter gave every client a Buddy heater. Not sure how cold it will be where you’ll be hunting but we were in anywhere from 10 degrees to -30 and never once was I cold. One word of advice I do have is that if it’s that cold bring something to wrap around the bottle because about half way through it will literally freeze up on you. So what I did was kept one tank near the heat and when the other bottle froze up I would put the warm tank on and take the frozen tank and put it near the heat. I hunted box blinds and pop up blinds and once the heat was going for a bit all I had on was UA 5.0 thermals and UA sweatshirt and took the coat off -
Yes that it true. I know a guy that crossed the road and hunted and the ECO gave him a fine. Sad part was he got the ticket in front of his 10 year old, ECO didn’t even pull him aside to fine him.

First off welcome. For starters I would probably edit out the two spot numbers you mentioned. Those 2 spots are really good areas. Lots of oaks in there. The second spot number you mentioned has a really nice area of white oaks I’d try and set up on. Also on that same block of woods I would go to the parking spots on the east side of that property, there’s 2 parking spots on that road. Go to the south one. You can go in there and set up on those deer heading towards the houses. As far as the first spot you mentioned I know someone that hunted there also and have shot some really good bucks. Both spots get hit by pheasant hunters so use that to your advantage.

Thanks Matt, that’s exactly where I got them the other day

No need to apologize I could tell you just didn’t know. I figured I’d help you out, on some sites guys would’ve jumped down your throat instead of just lending some friendly advice
-
@chacha since you’re a “newbie” take what I’m saying as constructive criticism and not disrespect. You’ve gotten lots of solid advice in here and someone even giving you street names, now it’s time to go do your own work and find them. Asking someone where to park is like asking someone if they mind if you can take their girlfriend out. Sorry if this comes off harsh but in your defense it sounds like you genuinely just didn’t know to never ask for a spot.

I appreciate that, thank you

Are you a Suffolk resident? If so they have a few county parks which would be ideal for what you’re looking for. If not then I would get the free wetlands permit and try those spots. And then like @rachunter and @NonTypical said you can always book a trip. -
@chacha I know of a lot of people who seen little to no deer activity on LI with this full moon. Doesn’t help that guys been pounding spots the last few weeks setting ladder stands and cams. If you’re a Suffolk resident I’d look into the county properties

If you decide to ship let me know, I’ll take them

You always get it brother! You going out for the opener?
-
I used to duck hunt there probably 25 years ago. Hunted there for a few years and the place would get pounded hard but back then we didn’t have many public land options. Nowadays with all the land that’s opened up to hunting that place may have turned into a little honey hole. It’s a small piece so I’d be careful about posting names and screenshots, just som3 friendly advice

They have freaks like that in Orient also

You may wanna bring those arrow back and paper tune your bow again. You went from a 400 spine to 340 spine which is a much stiffer arrow. Or you can keep those arrows and bump up the broadhead weight to 125 to kind of weaken that 340 arrow for a 63# bow if that makes any sense to you lol

@chacha I’d look here along transitions and points. This is the spot we were talking about but I’m not tech savvy to send it via PM

Do you freeze some or does it stay good since it’s dehydrated

I guide for deer and waterfowl out East so I rarely get a chance to hunt but don’t be worried about to many hunters. Have you done any scouting yet or going in blind. You should at least get boots on the ground and get yourself familiar with a few spots. If you need a hand let me know and I’ll steer you in the right direction with a few parking spot numbers. I always try and help new hunters if I can

I was out East today squaring up some loose ends on the farm and passed a few county parking spots and all had vehicles parked there. Unreal the pressure people put on deer before the season starts
