Damn fine post^. I have a pretty good sized county park across the street from me. Best thing about reporting poachers in there is county sheriff can come and I don't have to wait for DEC. They have cuffed a couple over the years, I got good pics of 2 morons dragging a 8 pt. one time.

I'd be guessing that a very large percentage of hunters don't even know what that means, nor do they know thats why prices (and turn around times) can vary so much, especially on basic WT shoulder mounts.

LOL.... Those are from a American guy who lives in Germany and his hunting club lands. Up in Quebec rough log stands are built for moose. The English style high seat is really comfortable to sit in using the rifle rail, can do some real good shooting off that one. Built a couple of those over the years. To the OP do a search here typing in elevated stand.....my link is there from before and some other ideas.

Using mine for I think 4 seasons now...... Scroll down a few posts here, its the same user name. http://blaserbuds.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4818 railing works great and stops the hubs from collapsing in the wind, they just kind fold against it. And provides a safety rail. I have foam on the corners in use so it doesn't chaff against the blind. Learned that real quick. I use a piece of conduit to prop the roof hub if its going to snow.(has survived a nor'easter and more than a foot) Pop up is ready for a coating of silicone now, but stays out from Oct 1 til now every year and has held up great.(primos for $129) Works best with a directors chair inside that is higher like bar stool height.

I happen to stumble onto that also....very cool the cops did the right thing by her.

I have shot a lot of game animals.....(also started as an adult and pretty much on my own) I still remember that first one everytime I go afield, and I can still get that pumped almost 25 years later. If it ever leaves I am done with it, but I actually think I appreciate it more now.

I can't say I heard of much bigger in North America mentioned anywhere either. But in other parts of the world 30,000 is not uncommon and I know of another thats near 1,000,000 (along with some national parks that are high fenced of similar size). But that fence is pretty porous, in some stretches a mile or more can be down at times. But its there for hunting, big enough to see on google earth as the habitat is better in the area than out.

And to think we can all remember our boy getting his first guns.....sniff, sniff. Congrats

"A deer tag is not a coupon redeemable at your nearest woodlot that entitles you to a deer." This is a great quote......Mind if I borrow that for other forums once in a while?

3A is thin on deer in general, don't be discouraged, thats a tough unit to cut your teeth on for a first time hunter.

Best of luck back at ya' Larry.

Not trying to put the cart before the horse.... But Cabelas has a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 on sale til' tomorrow night..... $279 if you use their standard coupon, free shiping, and rebate. Usually that scope is $399....I have a couple. Hell of a buy if you act quick.

You hit a deer with these yet?

Muzzleloader around home (shotgun county) Rem 700 with some conicals and loose Pyrodex. If I get to rifle area, Blaser R93 in some flavor, but I'd like to blood a 8x57IS barrel,196gr Oryx. Like Lawdwaz I use whatever suits my fancy that day, there are plenty to pick from.LOL

Would you register all your guns?

I'll add this for thought about travelling hunters. I've hunted a half dozen different countries, some take up to a year for a resident to get a gun put on a registry; a couple have storage requirments....blah blah blah. Toughest place for a travelling hunter to get an import permit.....USA. Not even close. 6-9 mos typical. Other than having a letter of invitation, and a 4473 from the US.....I don't recall it taking more than an hour to get my guns cleared at any airport I've flown into. I find that kinda ironic. -

Back in April of this year for the national long gun registry. I've been to Canada several times with guns, including this past summer.Takes $25 and about 15 minutes if they ain't busy and you pick a smaller entry point. I don't think Ontario is any different; thats a national reg, from RCMP; not provincial. http://www.rcmp-grc....-visite-eng.htm Hand guns are another story. (I should ad Quebec kept the registry going but its all tied up in the courts there. Leave it to that province to mess up the works.....the NY equivalent in Canada. LOL) -
I don't think folks can comprehend just how many guns there are out there to account for. The supply of "off the books" guns is inexhaustable. You will end up with just a fraction of whats out there and to those who want to play in the system. Even the Canadians never got a handle on the numbers with a fraction of whats here in the States; and just like NY COBIS system, they scrapped it after all the expense.

I'd pick the shotgun....it'll get the most actual use and you get what you pay for. More than a few rounds from my 391. Jewell? OK.....but for a wood stocked hunting rig I don't see the advantage. Maybe a long range precision tupperware gun. Why? have you shot a couple ounce trigger? I won't hunt with less than 2 1/2 and thats light even to most experienced riflemen. Most are about 3 for me. A Timney at less than half the price still breaks clean, and stays in a safer range IMO. Where the Jewell shines is in the single ounces for pull, thats the point of one. If you want a uber long range, lose the wood stock and start thinking aftermarket. Owned a couple 700's. If I did it again I'd buy someone elses build, and save the depreciation.....there's tons of them out there that are already shooters. JMO (don't know anything about the black gun stuff, not interested)

Hope everyone else gets some progress......announced dates out to the 14th in some areas doesn't sound so good. Cool up here for the first time Thug; deer moving a bit more this morning.
