My list is about 3 years long. I guess that comes with buying a forclosure. I'll keep going until the snow flies. I might hunt in the mornings before work and saw firewood on Saturdays (helps to keep the trespassers out) Here is the highlight from this summer

I checked mine this afternoon and most of the pictures on it were of bucks. These three are possibly some of the biggest bucks I've ever had on camera. One evening I was hunting woodchucks and they came out together in the hay field, I just always assumed the bigger deer were in someone else's woods. It's nice to know they are walking around mine. I'm in 9K/town of Napoli.

Bucktooth State Forest (2000 acres?) is about 5 min. from Little Valley. Lots of big deer here in Catt County, but everyone and their daughter hunts out here. But what the heck, its only 15K.

Look really close and see if you see any hair. I had some bear tear up a pine about that size in Orange county and they left some hair.

My daughter told me that her stuffed lion fell out of the trunk when we were driving through. Since you are going anyway, can one of guys pick it up for her?

It is ideas like this that keep me reading this forum. I never would have thought to merge biking and hunting. Someone please put a deer on a bike and post a picture, I want to see it in action.

Its a little hard to see, but my first thought was a wood pecker hole that scared over a bit. My second thought is that wood peckers target dead trees and the one in your picture doesn't seem to be dead.

Makes your eyes go a little funny after a while. The dog kicks the camera a lot. It doesn't seem like the dog minds, how is that for the camera?

That is a great picture by the way! Birds can be tough to photograph, but you did really well for being surprised!

I was in your spot 3 years ago: familiar with guns, but not with hunting large game. I read a lot, watched a lot of youtube stuff, and blew a lot of opportunities. Self teaching is possible, but I found that hunting with someone makes a big difference. Keep reading and asking questions and you will get some venison.

Could it be that the hunt was interrupted (injury, sudden illness, a call about a family member) and the hunter was never able to find the spot? But still, two deer instead of one? How often to people shoot doubles?

Red just described my actual situation, except that it is 180 acres in Catt County: Log cabin, abandoned apple orchards, a few open fields, large pond and lots of brush. I'm not even rich, it just happened.

The birds are hitting our feeder hard this winter. But strangely, the squirrels have not been an issue. I've gone to a lot of work in the past to electrify my feeder and now I have no use for it.

I'm not sure what others have found, but when my wife uses venison in place of beef, the meal doesn't taste quite right. Her comment was "it is more like goat than beef". She uses a lot of Asian recipes and things taste good. We had Chinese this week made with deer tenderloin-Yum! I"m not very good at Asian cooking, so I use a lot of butter or find a venison recipe online. Welcome to the "This meat is good, and all I have to do is shoot it" club.

I don't think you would have any trouble flipping that for a profit.

I think Cuomo does well in the polls until you get to Western NY. If I recall, WNY was a strong supporter of Crazy Carl in the last time around. Cuomo is smart so start looking for a bone to be thrown to the westerners.

Two weeks ago I added .22LR to my wife's shopping list. I was shocked when she came back from walmart (Middletown) with 3 boxes.

Can someone describe the boil method or post a link? I'd like to give it a try. When I was a kid I boiled a steer's skull and it flaked apart. I'd like to avoid that this time around.

I'm 30 and work with youth from NYC. One trend I see is that people my age and younger want instant gratification/feedback. I think it is safe to say this stems from an over conectedness to technology. When it comes to hunting, the payback takes a while, and sometimes it never comes. At the same time I see in my peers a growing desire to for the "old ways" and appreciation for farming/gardening/hunting. Sadly, there is to much to know about hunting to be learned in one generation. We need the knowledge to be passed down through generations. If the incoming generations have to learn through books and Youtube vidoes (like I did) it will be tough for the art of hunting to be preserved.

Someone needs to invent a GPS transmitter that is small, like the size of a watch battery that can be tucked inside somewhere.
