A little bit on the side of this conversation...I read on another site guys using Bicycles to get into their spots on state land....they never said how they get OUT on state land if they were packing out a deer. Here is a link to the bikes, and a link to a guy who found a cool way to utilize an old walk behind stroller. http://discussions.texasbowhunter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232515 http://discussions.texasbowhunter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=234850

I put them on a dozen of my arrows and no problems with them sliding off....The directions say to remove the boiling water before you dip them....What happens when you take boiling water away from heat????? IT STOPS BOILING!!!! I rough up the shafts, clean with acetone, wipe dry, slide the wrap onto the shaft, dip into BOILING WATER ON THE STOVE OVER HEAT SOURCE, hold in boiling water for 10 seconds....let dry for an hour or so, and go shoot.....100s of shots, no issues.

I agree, it seems like over the past year or so, I see more of his "endorsed products" more than himself.

tuning issues persist with the drop away rest......

I had a bisquit on my last bow, and on my new bow as well. I have noticed much more drag on my fletches with my new bow than with my last. Not too sure whats the deal with that, but I may switch out to a drop away after this season. Aside from that, I still like the bisquit. Been eyeballing the QAD, and the Ripcord as replacements. -
A friend and I were hanging stands, and doing some scouting this past weekend. We seen a few scrapes and rubs. Needless to say we have a stand in the general area of those signs.

I think anyone who has cleaned ML guns before, has been spoiled by the break opens. I know I have.

Why I love Dick's Sporting Goods Store
loworange88 replied to fasteddie's topic in General Chit Chat
I stopped there yesterday, and bought 2 basic hang on stands that were priced 2 for $70. Cant beat that with a 2 sticks. I also used a $20 off coupon that I got out of our "Entertainment Catalog". I even looked at todays Sunday ad, and they are still having great sales on hunting items. I'm starting to like Dick's better than the local Gander Mtn. -
Now that i know how mine fly....I will most likely buy a second pack and keep the first set as "practice" heads. I may even invest in some replacement blades in addition to the second pack.

I can't speak for the Accura, but I have a 2 year old CVA Optima, and I love it, its very accurate, even more accurate after I scoped it. I also know 2 others who both have CVA Wolf's and they both love each gun as well. I know if you get a brand new one, you'll most likely get one with the new speedy breech. Makes cleaning them a bit easier. Plus you can't beat the prices, as compared to a T/C or other higher end brand of Muzz. If you like the gun and it suits you, go for it. I can't speak for everyone out there, but I'd buy CVA again. Here is what others have said about it on Cabela's website http://reviews.cabelas.com/8815/216606/cva-accura-209-rifle-stainless-black-reviews/reviews.htm

Arrows, what are some good ones? Anyone buy new ones recently?
loworange88 replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I shoot Beeman ICS Hunters, and I also have some Carbon Express Heart Attacks. Shooting both brands at the same time, I can keep a 4" group out to 30 yards. With more practice and I'm sure more muscle memory in my arm, I could probably shrink that up some. Both brands are ~$45/6 depending on where you buy. I'm happy enough with that.... -
I've shot each of my new broadheads once into my block target, and I may do that one more time. I will end up buying another pack of them right before season just to have. As for sharpening them, my experience, and I wont speak for everyone, is that if you shoot BH arrows into a target 1, 2 or 3 times, usually its not enough to dull them up much. Always sharper is better of course. IF your really worried about it, buy a second pack, and either swap the new ones out before season, or get a pack of replacement blades if you can. I personally never had good consistent results sharpening BH blades. When I took my archery course, the instructers had a neat DIY trick to determine if a BH needed to be sharpened or replaced...Take a roll of masking tape, and a fist full of rubber bands...put the rubber bands all over the tape roll so that they criss cross the hole of the roll and make a "web"....The instructors then took a sharp and a dull broadhead on an arrow and by hand, inserted it into the web of rubber bands....the dull one did not cut the rubber bands, it merely pushed them aside. The sharp one cut a bunch of them. They then said that rubber bands are similar in elasticity to that of tendons and arteries in a deer. It made sense to me, and I tried it at home with a dull BH and a brand spanking new one out of the pack, and I got the same results. So that is sort of my "checker" for blade sharpness.

Same when I bought mine. I however did not get anything from Mathews stating that I am in their system, not sure if they send out something. But the dealer did take my information as well as the serial number of my bow.

I shot each of mine the other night at about 25 yards....they were hitting pretty good, so now I'm happy.

So I finally bought a case for my new bow. It was sort of a pain, as there are only a few cases that will actually fit it. I purchased an SKB soft sided zipper case. The only thing I didnt really care for is that it doesnt have semi rigid sides, its actually just a bare bones zipper case. I obtained some 1" thick foam used for furniture upholstery that my mom had at her house and wasnt using. I cut one piece to fit in the case, and then 2 other pieces to cradle the bow. I used some spray glue to bond the 3 pieces, and it all fits nice and snug now in the case. Still not as tough as a hard case, but better than what it was. HErre are some pictures.

"refinishing" an old shotgun
loworange88 replied to loworange88's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I originally wanted to do it in camo, but that didnt come out as good as I wanted it too. I have seen some of the newer Remingtons were done in a flat olive green color and I thought they looked really cool. So I just found a green at the store that I thought would be the closest to what I remember from the store. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I just need to get a pad or plate for the butt and down the road, I plan on rebluing the barrels, but for now I'm happy with it. -

Ok, so I managed to get the butt stock finished and mounted back onto the gun. I need to get over to the local Gander Mtn, and see what they have for butt plates/pads. I'll look locally before I order one online. -

Well a quick update...I sprayed the clear onto the buttstock and due to the heatwave, the spray hazed, and I have to sand it down and reclear it. I'll post pics when its done. -
"refinishing" an old shotgun
loworange88 replied to loworange88's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
I liked the look of the cherry color myself, however it did have alot of knicks and dings that you really couldnt see in the picture. After sanding it all down, I would have had to putty up some spots, that would have stuck out like a sore thumb had I tried to re-stain it, so that was also part of my decision to just paint it. -

Here is the Butt Stock, still drying, and needs clear coat. I plan on adding a "grind to fit" butt plate from Kickeez, and MAYBE a cheek pad from NoKick, I'll probably have to get something to mock on it before I get one. This gun is only going to be used at the range, I dont plan on hunting with it anymore. http://www.kickeezproducts.com/grind-to-fit-recoil-pads.php http://www.nokick.com/CHEEK_EEZ_Cheek_Protector_by_KICK_EEZ_p/703-000.htm -
So I "refinished" my old Savage 24 O/U. I've had this gun since I was about 10 yrs old, and its also my first gun. I dont ever plan on selling it, and I dont care what its value is, so I'm not worried about that side of it. I have attached a before and after pic. All I used for the furniture is flat OD green, and the action is just flat black. I will probably buy a bluing kit for the barrel. I dont have the but stock finished up yet, still need to put one more coat on it, and then some clear. So far I think its taking on a new life. Pictures are sort of crumby. I took them with my phone. Ill post better ones when its all assembled. Just thought I'd share.

I've shot out there quite a few times. Great people that own the place. Its a bit of a drive for me, I come from Cicero. That being said does anyone know of an outdoor range in the Cicero Area? I know Onanadaga Lake park has a public range, I'm just not sure if Cicero area does or not. My house is in a pretty residential area, and I have shot in my back yard, but it makes me nervous with houses all around. Mat

I have a CVA optima, full synthetic black stock with black barrel. I had a scope mounted to it when I first got it, and its always been very accurate. Even with a dirty bore my groups are still in the kill zone. I had an issue with the lame fiber optic sights as some have said but I removed the rear sight, and the fiber on the front sight fell out while in the woods last season. But with the scope on it, its a non issue for me. I'd definately buy a second one. I work with guy who has a Wolf and loves it, My dad has a Wolf as well, loves it, and my cousin has an Optima, and he is the one who convinced me to get mine.

I have a CVA Optima, and through out the season I'll use the CVA brand gel cleaner and patches to give it "rough cleaning" Usually while at the range or what ever. For a propper cleaning I break the gun down, and use the foaming barrel blaster to clean out the barrel, then use a few patches till the barrel is clean and dry. Next I put Bore Butter on a patch and run that through a number of times. Then I wipe down all exterior surfaces with RemOil. I had a problem with my barrel rusting, until I started using the Bore Butter. I also used the Barrel Blaster on my .270 as I noticed some copper build up, it took care of it no problem. >>Mat
