    Yeah, they bought out their main competitor and now we will most likely see a decline in the quality of the Cabela's gear. Saddening. I went to that buffalo store before a bills game this year and it was just Redhead brand everywhere. I asked the people working there if they had any medium weight Cabela's brand pants, big old fat nope. Otherthing they did was sell the credit card to captial one. I used to call the number on my Cabela's card and talk to Susan in KC. I liked it. Last and final time I called I talked to "Phil" in "ARKAndSAW". So I opened an account with sefcu for about 1/2 the interest did a balance transfer, buh bye.

    Edit: quoted wrong post, meant to quote the post about Cabela's moving into the latham/smallbany area. A couple years ago I read an article in the TU that they were looking at a plot close to the airport/Albany county hockey facility. Then they opened one down near Woodbury I think? That same spring I read an article about how their new stores were basically just cannibalising the business from their existing stores, so it was a bad investmeny. Then here we are next year with bass pro owning Cabela's, and gradually just removing all the Cabela's brand gear and replacing it with redhead. Not a fan.

    On the subject of keeping warm, I'm going to try the antiperspirant in the feet trick tomorrow. My feet sweat and dampen my socks almost every hunt.

    They we're doing that right around the corner from the farm last weekend, I didn't get to see it though. Talked to the DEC officer opening weekend, nice enough guy.

    Yeah if you deny then oxygen to create the rust chemical reaction they stay warm. That being said, after a 12 hour day they seem to be less effective. Of course that might just be my hands....

    It's been close to 20 years since I've done a drive. We still have the land, just not the people. I didn't like the group of people that did it back in the day, pretty sleazy bunch. Mostly my dad's friends who have had falling out with over the years. My dad just doesn't hunt much anymore, I'm the only person that hunts our 900 some odd acres more than 5 days a year. Our neighbor below me is up on weekends, but that's about it. Oh and the 5000 acres of state land adjacent is totally empty after opening weekend.

    I found 1 tick on the doe I shot opening day. Last year the doe i shot on October 1 was loaded, just crawling with them. The my dad and I were tracking a wounded buck on November 3rd, I pulled 40 plus ticks off him. Then we had that hard freeze weekend Nov 11th, haven't had a tick on me since. Not one. I think there was a high of 10 both those days and it just decimated the tick population up there.

    Why is it every day I can actually take off is always freaking windy?! 3 to 7 inches of snow today and 35 mph winds, woopee!

    Having stand indecision for the morning. Probably sit the hot stand again, even though the neighbor brought his idiot friend who shot at and missed a bunch of deer 200 yards away on Sunday.

    No different than a real windy day. Other thing I've thought of is using some of those mounting brackets from tree house masters they sell on their web site, but by the time you get the lumber, it's probably a pretty similar cost, and you can't move it ever.

    Thanks man! I think this next year I have to fix the road, about 500 yards of old abandoned town road. Probably going to cost close to 5 figures for that. Also going to get the soil tested and plant some stuff in our fields. Then perhaps the next year we can invest in something like this. I know JUST the spot I'd like to put something like this eventually. Trick will be getting my dad to not smoke in it.

    I think he's referring to his rope/hoist for pulling his gun/pack to the stand after he climbs in.

    I'm curious: Do you have a picture of that blind/platform from the outside? As my kids are starting to get older I want to bring them with me, but they would definitely need something like this to sit for more than 15 minutes at a clip. Sonwhats the setup process/cost for something like that?

    I imagine we'll get there. I'm failing to see how going out one afternoon since Wednesday is rough, but it seems like one of us is going to be bitchy regardless.

    I'm jealous of everybody out there freezing their extemities off. Looks like a gorgeous morning to be in a stand.
