  1. I don't buy much at the gas stations except gas, as everything else is over priced. I will grab my milk at Wegmans as it is $2.09 a gallon. I have to drive by it everyday and ways. As a matter of fact my wife has been buying more groceries at Wegmans as they are a lot cheaper then a super Walmart. She is saving almost $20 a week on the stuff that we buy every week. The basic items at Wegmans are cheaper, where they get you if you buy the Specialty items.
  2. I have not found a trail cam that has a instant trigger speed. They all have a 2-5 second delay at least. I have learned to put my trail cams in spots that the animal will trigger it and still be in the area to get a picture. It does take some time. I once put a camera out went back a week later had 1600 pictures. I was like sweet. Well turns out I have every view of the nice golden rod, every time the wind blew a little the golden rod triggered the camera.
  3. Wow, I guess I never knew they could bait for bear in NY up till 9 days before season.
  4. Look at how many taxes as a sportsman we pay. Those hikers, and bikers, and runners that use all the state land then want to ban hunting on them, probley don't pay anything or very little to help with the up keep of the land.
  5. Well this seems stupid to us way up here in Upstate NY out in the country of small towns. But in NYC bikes are a different world there. You get people just zipping all over the place in the city, and mist times if they hit some one or a car, they just get back up and take off. Have seen this happen. If someone on a bike strikes a person and injures them who pays for it?
  6. Its almost to the point now matter what you do, you will end up breaking some law. I am guessing just about everyone breaks alteast one or two different laws in a day and probably does not even know it. I sure hope our country's initials don't change to the USSR anytime soon. The way it is going this won;t be far from the truth. I waiting for the day we are taxed on how many lung full's are air we used in a day. You laugh but there is already a Stock Market type business set up on the trading of green house gases. http://www.chicagoclimatex.com/ . Look into it was setup by members of Goldman Sachs and a lot of the other big crooks in the Financial business.
  7. Most plastic is recycled now. Have you seen how the grind up a whole car in a couple minutes into little pieces, which then are sorted out by melting them down as each thing melts at a different temperature.
  8. Wow what a awesome looking animal http://www.snopes.com/photos/hunting/calicobuck.asp
  9. Back when Bush was president if you went to google and typed in Failure and hit the I feel lucky button it took you to Presidents Bush Web Page. (rumor had it Mike Moore paid to have that done) . I don't think the I feel lucky button works anymore.
  10. Believe it or not, most plugs I have seen come in guns are nothing more then a wooden dowl you buy at a hardware store .Sometimes they have a o-ring on them, which makes them alittle harder to get out.
  11. Biz, it does not work that way. The law states that the magazine my not hold more then 3 shells period . I am sure a out of state hunter in CT would be hit hard with fines for going over the 3 shot rule.
  12. A plug is a wooden dowel or some people use a pencil. You take the gun barrel off and insert down tube. You just need to get it to the correct size so it only hold 3 shells. Most duck hunters have to do this to their guns. First empty your shotgun chamber.Put the safety on. Then put as many shotgun shells as you can in the magazine. Write the number down. Then take the shotgun shells out by pushing the release that holds them in the magazine (usually a small screw driver will do the trick to hold the shell release down so they can all get pushed out by the magazine sping. If you have some dummy shells that would be the best way to do it, but usually the average shooter does not have those. You can run the shells through the chamber to empty the magazine but I do not recommend it. Too dangerous. Then take the number of shotgun shells that are over 2 and lay them end to end on a bench or table. Measure them and cut a wooden dowel about 3/4" less than that measurement. The reason for cutting the plug 3/4" less is to keep the spring from being under a dead pressure and to give the shells a little room to move under recoil. I know that water fowl rules say that you must have your shotgun plugged to hold only 3 shells but that also includes the shell in the chamber. So you actually have to have the capacity of only 2 shells in the magazine. The wooden dowel does not have to be as big around as a shotgun shell, a 1/2" dia. dowel is fine. Make sure you sand all the slivers and burrs off the dowel. Then take off the magazine cap (the cap is at the end of the magazine closest to the muzzle of the shotgun). When you do that be prepared for the long coil spring to sprong out and hit you in the face if you are looking down into the magazine. The best way to avoid this is put a plastic grocery bag over the end of the muzzle and magazine and then you can unscrew the magazine cap through the plastic bag. The spring will be captured by the bag instead of your open mouth. While you have the spring out, clean the magazine with a shotgun cleaning rod and large cotton patches from an old T-shirt. Then put a very light coat of gun oil on the inside of the magazine and drop the spring back down into the magazine tube. Then put the plug you made in on top of the spring and push the spring down and put the cap back on. If you are lucky and it threads the first time you have it made. Most magazine springs have the top of the spring closed in so the plug will not drop down into the spring. If yours doesn't then take a pair of pliers and bend the end of the spring closed enough that the plug will not go into the spring
  13. The government keeps pushing this ethonal crap and all that does it drive up the food prices. Why not come out with a program to convert cars to Natural Gas in areas that have large amounts and produce it. Look at the tax laws and see the breaks the big oil companies get for using ethanol. The company that blends ethanol gets a 45 cents per gallon tax credit. This falls under something called the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit. Here is the second paragraph from the story on this. The energy and agricultural industries, for example, would continue to receive a generous ethanol tax credit at a cost to taxpayers of about $6 billion in 2011. The 45-cents-per-gallon credit goes to fuel blenders - including large oil and gas companies such as Shell - who count it against income tax owed to the United States. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/15/AR2010121504071.html Even more info on this http://www.bioenergywiki.net/Volumetric_Ethanol_Excise_Tax_Credit
  14. Well, I know alot of farmers that could use alittle extra money to help keep their land from drilling. I have seen it in just a few years how much land has vanished that I used to be able to hunt. If you drive in Northern Seneca County, you see lots of gas wells that have been there for almost 40 years. I can't every remember any problems with those wells. I have a friend that if he does not use his water for a few days that he can light his faucet on fire. His well is over 200 foot deep, and there is not a gas well with in 10 miles of his house. I just wonder how many people every checked there well over the years, probably not too man, and now they are and are blaming drilling on it.
  15. Won't be on the cover till December of 2011.
  16. Seen this video on youtube. Pretty wild video.I think they should have leased the dogs up first though. At least the have 1 antler from this.
  17. I did not count, but it appears that NYS had the most bucks in those 50 pictures or darn near close to the most and all this with out AR.
  18. I think that buck was in the Outdoor News last year. Look at the date of the picture says shot in Nov of 2009.
  19. I ride my 4 wheeler around year in the fields and vineyards by my house. I have drive with in 10 feet of deer bedding down and they don't even get up and move.Same with a tractor. I driven right by deer laying down during gun season. Whats weird if you drive the same area with a truck them deer don't hang out and take right off.
  20. I will be more then happy to welcome these illegal aliens (moose) to sneak across the US border in to NY. LOL
  21. I was hunting my land one spring and had the birds where gobbling on the roost .Well of course birds flew the other way and landed and they where still gobbling. So I circled around into this ravine, popped up on and see decoys 20 yards away on the woods edge. Then I hear someone calling, by this time I was very pissed, so I stood up and yelled.I don't remember what I yelled but I am pretty sure it was not something nice.Next thing is 2 guys come walking out, and are like you just scared those birds off.I was like this is my property and you do not have permission to hunt here. I said get the hell out of here. They parked on the next road over and walked down in. The problem I have is you can see most of my land great from the road and people see all these birds and deer, and then try and sneak in.
  22. Not yet. I may do some testing on that mount. Worst case I can just take the antlers and mount them. I believe this mount is probley 30 to 40 years old. I think is hung above a fireplace and they smoked in the house at one time.
  23. I have had dogs chase a nice buck by me bow hunting.I think one of the biggest things to piss me off is finding someone in your tree stand on your own property. Or turkey hunting on you property and calling some birds in, and so idiot sneaks in from the neighbors and shoots 2 jakes 15 yards from you on your property.
  24. Well here is a link to some tips.Look at the bottom of the tips and it says do not vacuum. Also read a few other web pages about watching out for bugs and insects on your animal mounts. I have never looked at any of mine for these.I think I would have noticed them, but am going to be looking in the ears, eyes, mouth and noise like they suggested. Yea still not up to the idea of using a garden hose, but the old guy just looks all yellow and terrible compared to my other mounts. http://www.ehow.com/how_4896932_clean-deer-mount.html
  25. I have not tried it but was told by a old timer taxidermist that using rubbing a pair of pantyhose on them will clean the antlers. Also was told you can take a deer mount outside on a nice summer day and give to a bath with a garden hose to clean it up. I have a old mount that a family member passed away and I was give the mount. It was taken on my property along time ago.
