  1. Passed on deer over the years as before legal/past legal shooting, one being one of the best deer I may have had an opportunity to kill, got out of the woods at 11:45 during spring turkey hunting with bird coming on a string knowing I couldn't kill him in 15 minutes. I'm about as legit as they come but thanks for the accusation as I don't want that deer rotting . No posted signs but not public land. So who am I to contact ? I was in the woods way off where I ever wanted to be so wasn't going to try to get land records on Thanksgiving day. I'm a big fan of paying it forward and helping others out. So would I come back if I was granted permission (if I even knew how to locate them ) by so called landowner and do or bring him something, absolutely. For being Odorless, your **** stinks
  2. so the deer I shot (shotgun) from the shooting rail of my tree stand, 70 yards broadside, breathed and had great cheek weld but managed to miss my mark by mere inches was indeed a poor shot . I could probably shoot with the best of them on this site. I didn't plan on not fatally shooting the deer. First and only I've ever lost. Won't shoot at a running deer and every deer I've ever killed has been one shot. Not a one going more than 30 or so yards tops. o what I've learned from your comment is I shouldn't have shot?! No I did not ask permission to surrounding landowners . 2.5 feet of snow thru 3 different parcels on attempted retrieval. could have gotten arrested for trespassing but you know what. Didn't give a rats ass. I was retrieving , not hunting .
  3. papist, you hunting big boy ? I also hunt 9H (Eagle, Bliss) although not til gun season for me
  4. so you'd rather have that deer die and go to complete waste than allow them one time permission to retrieve ? FYI ***** shots happen to the very best ! So you've never made one ?
  5. I'm in the same boat: can use rifle but never a shot over 100 yards so slug gun or ML for me. Yes, each gun may like something different than say the same exact model. Buy a few boxes of assorted and put them on paper to see what your gun likes. I had great success with the Lightfields out of both my slug guns. They ain't cheap but they pattern well and intense energy dump. Never had a thru and thru yet.
  6. Downwind of you or upwind ? If they were upwind who's to say they wouldn't have walked by anyhow. IMO spraying your clothes down on days not hunting may be a bit extreme
  7. 2 years ago on Thanksgiving I shot the biggest buck I've ever shot. Must have hit inches off my mark. 2.5 feet of snow and it was dang cold. I tracked that deer for miles and 4.5 hours. Had the slug gun slung over my back with no thoughts of filling any DMP's which I could have shot numerous does along the way as walking thru the snow was very quiet . And learned a great deal of where deer were bedding too. At this point I was no longer hunting but trying to retrieve Was I trespassing, yes I was onto a couples parcels of land that weren't posted but yet not public land either. I know I didn't have the right to be there but it was my duty to do my best to retrieve that deer as I pulled the trigger. Doe, this buck, basket or whatever ,I wasn't going to give up. Oddly enough I finally busted that deer out of a beaver swamp inside of 200 yards from where it all started . I lost blood trail soon after and dark set in never finding him. Missed Thanksgiving dinner at the inlaws (finally got the wife to understand my determination) As far as asking for permission and landowner saying no. I hope there's no idiot that would actually say "no" at attempt to retrieval. Hunting perhaps but retrieval no.
  8. WTF ? Why does my font keep changing ?! Ugh I'd call the DEC and see if he could get me permission granted
  9. Can't explain the bucket or the corn but all I can think of now is "Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care" stuck in my head
  10. I have a cantilevered black matte finish 870 with a scope on it. Dang thing gets rusty quick (yes I wipe down all the time ) so I take the wood and stainless Winchester 1300 out on the wet days. My 870 loves 3" Lightfield slugs Deer.....not so much.
  11. First off obviously, check the wind ! Just recently built a ground blind for my daughter to sit in with me. Used fallen timber and some camo nylon cord to construct it. Guessing it's 8-9 feet long by 4 feet wide. I basically put fallen logs up cinched together and it looked too log cabin like so I used other branches and logs propped up to break up the uniformity of it. It's below two hemlocks so the canopy of it's limbs will help not getting busted in the sun. It's about 75 yards off two parallel trails the deer use to slowly stroll thru the open hard woods. Lots of brambles on either side and a few small stands of pines . The deer are in no hurry to stroll thru and browse as they meander thru as they feel safe. The low lying small plants show sign of them nibbling on and in no hurry. Going to sit in our turkey strut seats to keep our fannies off the ground. Both the front and back of the blind have solid shooting rails . It all sounds good on paper so now I hope the plan works.
  12. Ever been to a Grateful Dead concert ? You'll hear the sights and see the music As much as I'd like to get into searching and eating wild mushrooms the reprocussions always scare me away. The last time I ate mushrooms I didn't buy at Wegmans was the Pittsburgh Grateful Dead show, doh. And if I eat the wrong type of wild I won't be around to read the rest of this thread.
  13. Could a moderator make this thread go away please? I'm sure OP has received his information and this thread topic gives too much to the antis. I know on Trapperman this subject is never talked about on open boards, only thru PM's. Thank you
  14. What's the window, pillar and building like structure I see in the backround of last pic ?
  15. Love them grey fox. Amazing how much catlike they are compared to a red. Caught one napping in a low lying branch of an apple tree many years ago.
  16. Go to the dollar store and buy a big bag of marbles . Great slingshot ammo
  17. There would be less crows if I could ever hit them dang things. Crow decoys out with owl decoy , Johnny Stewart electtric caller , good positioning. Crows fly in , I shoot , they bob n weave , I miss , they fly off. I suck at wing shooting
  18. Hey , you guys aren't playing by the rules lol
  19. So it seems this site is a pretty tight group bunch of guys n gals Sometimes it's nice to put a face to a "name " So I thought I'd start a thread of show your face " if you dare " lol. This pic is me and my daughter on Mother's Day this past year. Typical two year old bird ( 3/4" hooks and 8 3/4" beard )He and two hens and a Jake slowly got coaxed across a large field. Daughter gave me a thumbs up when she saw them far off . Some soft purrs and very soft yelp did the trick. Tom gave us a great show. Tipping fan at his lady friends and ripped many a times. I could see my daughter shaking but trying to be still as they got in close. When I squeezed the shot off all I remember is her yelling "woohoo" Can't wait to take her out deer gun opener this year. http://i.imgur.com/dufUvrg.jpg
  20. This past episode ... Wow ! Action packed with lots of gore ! I was pretty sure " who " was responsible for the horn blowing to divert the herd just not that way. Ricks going to be pizzed at the happening back in town. Still want to see a .22 someday , jeesh
  21. So it's been legal for the 8th-10th round all along ? I had thought only at registered shooting range and I thought in residence ?!
  22. Was half listening to the news Can I stuff them back in ? Somewhat a moral victory if so IMO
