LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
turkeyfeathers replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
when I trapped hard in highschool I saw a lot of deer. You're working hedgerows or field edges ,swamps and edges of creeks I'd bust out nice deer hiding away for the day. -
Just saw Deerpassion post from Live from the woods... Got me thinking. This guy and bunch of you others hunt hard during bow season. How many hours of "actual " in the woods would you estimate you spend during the season ? Per bow season ? Gun season ? ML/late bow ? I don't bow hunt but end up in the neighborhood of 100 -110 hours each year during gun/ml season. and I think my wife likes me being gone as she bought me a shotgun and ml for Christmas and a birthday years back.

Holy crap ! Impressive !! Thanks for the lesson.

Crest toothpaste and more flossing required !! Not much wear on them so no more than a 2.5 year old IMO

Not sure about bow hunting but I know when a strutting turkey is real close I just about piss myself. I swear they can hear my heart beating. I try to calm my breathing down (by thinking of naked Oprah of course ) and aim small, miss small. The nervouseness is what it's all about. It never gets any easier. Try and complete your routine . Used to play a lot of competitive golf, that is routine as well when the chips are down.

Last episode was a yawner I thought. Trying to figure out what's up with Daryl in the preview. Falling off his motorcycle looking all exhausted. Maybe he's pizzed off he FINALLY ran out of bolts for his xbow.

As a gun hunter only I don't take offense to bow season and I'm not out there. I could and hopefully will some day buy a bow , take the hunter safety class and be part. Bow hunting is stealth , no need to have the orange army pushing deer and screwing up your hunt as you try and get a deer in close for a shot. Yes , I'd like to catch the deer in full rut , see them in a more natural state but again I don't get upset at bow only season

That's quite the deer thwacker -
Buddy who's at med center said 3 co workers who work in the field in NYC found ticks recently too.
-
A lot of you already know and have encountered these nasty little things. Awhile back I post on a thread I've never seen one around Erie county. Still haven't but buddy recently found bullseye on his calf and now has early stages of Lyme disease. Another buddy and his son up north in Massena trapping fox and coyotes. They're currently at med center getting one removed from son and getting meds. Don't take these things lightly. Brothers neighbor has been basically disabled by Lyme. Buy permithrin and spray your hunting clothes and make sure to check yourself when getting home.

I'd gladly put my 1187 SPT 12, .660 Rhino tube and Heavi mag blends or Nitro Company tri plex loads up against it ; ). Say pellet count inside a pie plate at 50 yards ? Although I have heard the 835 Turkey Thugs is quite the shooter. Go zero magnification or 2x max on a turkey optics. But totally agree. Tight shooters need optics. More birds are missed at close ranges as patterns are scary tight.

Necco dirt scent wafers Got them at Vidlers . 05 and .10 candy store in East Aurora ?! Like above post. Can't cover one scent with another. Deer smell in layers. Play the wind ..

I can't believe how fast guys can reload during ML season. 3,4,5 shots in seconds flat. Amazes me every year. -

Do what Jeremy said about tucking legs up into antlers. Do you feel like you're going to throw up yet ? If not , it's as difficult as you think lol He'll taste that much better after all your hard work. If there was snow a kids sled works well. -

Although I hunt a rifle allowed zone I have no shots needing it. I'll be toting my Winchester Apex muzzleloader/ Bushnell Firefly Elite 3x9/ 250 grain Shockwaves/100 grains of 777 and perhaps my 870 if the extractor claw is fixed on it by opener. No worries if not as I carried ML all season last year anyhow. Shot a nice one day of opener. -
Area I hunt is rifle/shotgun area. I have no need to use a rifle as shots are always confined to 75 yards tops. Hunting hardwoods. Most deer are shot inside 40 yards.

Way to go Core !! Way to stick with it ! And nice big bodied deer to boot -
Garbage bag with Raid for awhile ? Then the ole flea comb ? FYI : Windex makes for a good blood remover and gives a good sheen to fur when brushed out. Being serious

if he's positive the landowner wasn't ever going to grant him permission to ever search for his deer why would landowner ever give him their # Basic math not Common Core

Very surprised Foot warmers actually burned your feet even put on outside of socks and all too. Have fun and good luck with your sons.
