  1. I think everyone was being polite and not coming right out and saying loose corn strewn about is "baiting ".
  2. If you bust up the flock by accident. Ball in hand for you. They'll try and regroup. Sit and wait a bit and call them back. Saw a big flock yesterday with a lone hen about 500 yards behind the rest. My guess is they got spooked and were regrouping
  3. Have to mention someone earlier in thread talked about early born fawns still suckling and mother swatting at them with foot to shoo them away. Never witnessed this until yesterday. Pretty funny to watch. I also learned that all the craft beer I've drinking has me severely out of shape as I scouted the woods I'll be hunting for gun season. And that no apples there this year and the trout stream I cross is pretty cold ( new whole in boot)
  4. ((I really don't think that you intended for your post to come across that way, but it did...)) Ah, I can see how that could be misconstrude. My bad on poor choice of wording.
  5. ((But this definitely isn't as ridiculous as last years "do you hang your deer by the legs or head" thread )) Apparently not ridiculous at all when half say they won't shoot does with fawns and half say they will.
  6. Sounds like you regularly shoot fawns by this post and "tender vittles" post. To each his own, not bashing anyone who shoots fawns or shoots does with fawns in toe. Just not my thing. I don't process my own deer so I also look at the $ to get a big doe processed vs a 80 pound deer. I hunt for freezer filler, 2 feeds us for the year but 3 would be ideal. I don't need to eat venison that bad however. I'll pull the trigger on what I feel comfortable pulling the trigger on. Some guys only shoot big bucks, some guys have the "brown it's down " attitude. I passed on 6 small bucks in first 3 days last year :spikes , basket racks, buttons . Had these been big bodied deer with small racks they're getting toppled over. everyone has different "trophies"
  7. FYI : No 777 powder at Dicks.(not allowed to sell it) Had to drive to Johnson's the other night
  8. I don't bow hunt but that'll get the heart pumping. At least your getting opportunities unlike others on here. Keep plugging away.
  9. Nice. Breast him out . I smoked a wild turkey breast yesterday. Marinated overnight in oj, Italian dressing, salt, pepper, red pepper , wrapped in bacon. One of the best things I've ever eaten
  10. Not trying to stir the pot btw I personally let does with fawns walk. Don't want to be "that guy" to orphan the fawns. Have eaten a lot of tag soup over the years because of it. More often that not they have fawns in tow. Daughter (now 12) asked me when she was about 4 not to shoot mommy deer. Never did before anyway but still granting her her wish, 2 years ago I heard a goofy sound coming closer, cresting over the ridge was a solo fawn crying for it's mom. It bedded down right below my stand for a good while crying and looking around. . I've heard another doe may adopt them but never got solid word on this. Just curious on your peoples thoughts
  11. Mine as well shoot your deer out of season too with that thought process. Get 'em before the coyotes do. FYI I despise yotes and will shoot every one I see DURING season.
  12. "As you can see the meat shrunk quite a bit". But I was in the pool says George from Seinfeld That looks really good. Nice job. Bought some from the deer processor last year. Daughter wiped out that batch , took a stick in her lunch for school every day last week.
  13. Just a reminder for the first wave. Need to get them by Wednesday by end of business or you're stuck getting remainders November 1st as first come/first serve.
  14. While in AK just outside the Anchorage of what I'll call loosly a thruway there's an updated for the year sign listing moose vs vehicle collisions. More often than not i don't think the driver is walking away. Your low beams shine right under them.
  15. Congrats !! I have a 12 yr old daughter that takes ballet 5 nights a week and is incredible at it. On the other hand she's been putting nightcrawlers on the hook and taking fish off the hook since about 4 yrs old. At 4 she was more impressed with the skinless red fox I was skinning than the pelt itself. Been taking her pre turkey season to "to listen to the woods wake up " before she could walk, She's a rock in sitting still as I've taken her actual turkey hunting this year. Cricket single shot .22, Ruger 40th anniversary 10/22 and a pink laminate Remmy youth 20 gauge thats all suited up for turkey. Right now she says she's too busy for boys but when that first date comes, the boy is coming into the house to pick her up and witness the wife and I cleaning guns ! Wishing you a healthy happy baby whether it's a boy or a girl > Enjoy the moment, it's amazing to be part of what you're about to experience.
  16. Wife (vet) and I had this conversation last night. Yup, untreated is certain death.
  17. Dang, I'd still think that when they get wet you'd leave a scent trail of WD40 along the way.
  18. I wear Smartwool long undies. Very light, moisture wicking and warm . I've sat in stand all day of single digit temps with a few layers and these and been fine.
  19. The smell of anything foreign could spook a deer. Play the wind.
  20. Coffee, water, sammich, venison jerky, pistachios (gives me something to do), cheese. Mandatory Tim Hortons stop on the way.
