  1. Not sure if you're kidding or not but found one last year, peed on it and it was hit hard over a few nights after.
  2. Dang crooks stole most of your periods and commas too.
  3. Bar none: Soak breast in bottle of Italian dressing and 2 cups of OJ, tablespoon of salt, tablespoon of pepper, tablespoon of crushed red pepper overnight. Pat dry and lightly cover with your favorite dry rub , toothpick bacon strips to cover whole breast. Throw on smoker. Most incredible bird you'll ever eat Takes about 2 hrs.
  4. I saw two mixed flocks last week. Hens, toms , jakes and poults in each. No reason or rhyme to what turkeys do.
  5. Wife is a vet. Says topical creams/ointments for dogs are better than collars. Sawyers Permethrin for me as well. Honestly usually only treat clothes for spring turkey hunting. I don't bow hunt so I'm out there after a few frosts and colder weather during gun season when "hopefully" they're gone.
  6. Mostly a spring bird hunter here. Only went once in fall and did manage to kill a nice tom though. Spring: listening to the woods wake up, thrushes, catbirds, phoebes, robins and cardinals singing before it's even shooting light, newborn fawns. I LIVE for spring bird hunting. Warmer. Gobblers are ripping hard . Fall bird hunting is tougher in birds don't come to the call as easily, less likely to gobble at your call. Most guys I know leave fall birds alone. Actually just read an article in NWTF magazine asking hunters to abstain from fall hunting. No desire to shoot a hen ( not opposed to people doing it as everyones prize is different. ) I'll wait and dream of May 1.
  7. IMO fall "gobbling" is unusual in itself. They typically don't rip like they do in the spring.
  8. Bought a jerky shooter, used it once. Did not like results. Whole batch became dog treats. I'll only use muscle meat, store bought mix which I add a few things too. Goes in oven at 180 degrees for a few hours. Everyone tells me my jerky is stellar. Helpful hint in cutting muscle meat into strips: cut it when it's about half thawed. Makes it alot easier .
  9. I have many experiences with eating frozen Powerbars. The drool factor is awesome trying to gnaw on the frozen bar. I drool more than usual
  10. 30 mph winds with gusts here in williamsville. Anybody pop some Dramamine and decide to sit in a tree ?
  11. I just put my 2014-2015 back tag in the holder. I have every one in there since i started to hunt in 1986. That makes 28 back tags in there lol. Anyone else do this ?
  12. You'll get better at field dressing with the more you do it. Make the proper cuts and take out anything you don't want to eat.
  13. Oddly, my niece is complete vegan except for turkey or deer she or our family shoots. And definately not against hunting.
  14. I've never split the sternum, may have to give this a try. I'm practically crawling in the deer with the gauntlet gloves to cut the esophagus. One trick I use as a lot might : I'll close my left hand around as high as I can grab the esophagus and then run the back of the blade with my right hand along my thumb til I feel it run off the edge. (hope that makes sense) I know then I can make my cut without cutting myself. I believe most guys/gals cut themselves in this area of field dressing. Re: anus and colon , I use the Buttout tool. Maybe the best $ I've ever spent. Quick zip tie and you're good to go. Never timed myself but complete field dressing taking about 15 minutes at most. Going to watch this video again. Very clean job he did.
  15. Friends have built 2 now . Wood burning stove, carpeting, great windows etc. He, his young son, daughter and I hunted once from up in one of them . He and I manned the windows as the kids played Uno and ate snacks, lol. We eventually cooked up lunch on the stove via cast iron. Sorta funny hunting with slippers he supplied. Had to explain to daughter that "this isn't how daddy usually hunts". There's times when I'll be freezing in my climber and he'll text me a pic of them sitting up there with short sleeves. His 2 "tower of power" have a trap door entrance. One has been up for as long as I can remember and no signs of rot or collapse. Number one rule : make sure your muzzle is completely outside the window before touching one off ! (and no this isn't by ill experience) Have fun with it. Wish I had property and skills to put one up on.
