Jumping off the Longbeard XR train!!!
Buckmaster7600 replied to WNY Bowhunter's topic in Turkey Hunting
You ever tried to track a turkey? If I don't hit CNS I would rather only have superficial wounds for the best chance of survival. I'm sure a BH to the lungs is deadly but the odds of finding a mortally wounded turkey are very small. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Killing a critter with a broadhead and killing a turkey with a shot are completely different. Pellets in the chest isn't what's killing the turkey a pellet in the brain/neck is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I know running shots can be a hot topic on here but my my buddy sent me this link and it's pretty cool to see others doing it as well. I like to use a steeper hill so the tire will bounce but you can get the point. Running shots are never easy but with practice you can become pretty proficient at them. I don't Facebook so I had to have my wife load it but hopefully the video will work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I'm in the same boat! For me a 2 3/4 high brass 6shot lead load has killed every turkey I have hit with them. Most of my shots are under 10yds and I don't want a slug size pattern. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

What you're complaining about if what I look for. I hate eating pellets and the closer to the skin the easier they are to pick out. It's a lot easier to penetrate a brain than it is going through feathers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
We had a boss tom around here 1 spring that wasn't afraid of anything not that friendly but just super ballsy I got the grand idea that on opening day I was going to kill him bare handed. Take my advice and just shoot him, some stitches and a torn rotator cuff later I killed him with a shotgun the next day. He's the one I have mounted with a double beard. Good caliber for bear

Velocity has nothing to do with "pin hole in pin hole out before a bullet has time to expand and disperse energy" bullet selection does. If you're using 30-378wby mag at 3500fps or a 30-30 at 2300fps the bullet has to expand rapidly and retain enough weight/ energy to continue on through the animal and hopefully into the dirt behind it. Energy transfer is what tears tissue and I can promise you that a fast bullet tears/damages a lot more tissue than a big slow one. I have yet to see any of my big bores 45/70, 454casull, 500s&w 45colt "hot loads" leave a hole even close to the size a 270. In a perfect world you want velocity and bullet diameter. The bigger the bullet starts the bigger it will get if pushed fast enough and the heavier a bullet starts the more weight it can loose and still carry enough energy to get through the animal. -

The thing about dragging is the size of the deer makes all the difference. I would rather drag a 150lb deer 10 miles up hill that the 230lb buck I shot last year 1 mile. Long drags suck but they make the beer at camp taste that much better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

All these patterns are way to tight for me! I would miss em every time! I have missed enough birds with my improved modified and 3" #6's. I couldn't imagine what that pattern TF just showed looks like at 10yds? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
That's a tough one for sure, I'm saying 2 1/2 but a dandy 2 year old. I would say he would dress mid 140's. The problem is his head says 2 1/2 and his body leans towards 3. I would pass as well as my gut is saying 2 1/2. Do you know the date the pics were taken? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yea not impressed, I have loaded the Barnes to about 2000fps and they have the most weight retention of all the bullets I've tried. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

In my beach sand in a bucket the biggest piece of the bullet I could find was about 20gn's at 50 yards far from ideal for anything but coyotes. That's with my 454 carbine and that's slower than the 460's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It sucks! It doesn't affect what you can plant or cut but you can't built anything other than a poled structure "no foundation" and it drastically reduces land value. I am zoned agriculture so I can put up fences but I'm not sure if that's because of zoning. My suggestion is to stay the hell away from it. 20yrs ago when this crap first came out it was the wet lands now it's the wetlands and 100ft. Of our 250acre main farm we have about 25% as wetlands and it makes it basically worthless to everyone other than to the tax assessor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

45-70, 450marlin both shoot .458 dia. Bullets, bullet selections are endless. That's a sweet gun, what length is the barrel? How's it shoot, recoil? You have my mind spinning because that would be legal In Ohio. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

They have been reaming handi barrels for years into 460. I have considered it for a while as well, cva was going to chamber their scout in them but couldn't get adequate accuracy. I haven't found a bullet yet that will hold together in my 454casull handi and they're a couple hundred ft slower than the 460, even the Barnes are loosing their petals in my beach sand bucket. I have a 500 in a H&R handi and it's a cannon. I haven't heard anything good about the 460 in a rifle due to lack of .451 bullets holding together at 23-2500 fps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
