Encouraging private land being opened to general hunting
Buckmaster7600 replied to Doc's topic in General Hunting
The problem is when you let 1 they bring friends then the friends bring friends and on and on. Last year my brother in law asked if he could hunt one of my properties while I was up at my camp, I reluctantly said yes but only for the 2 days I'll be gone. I come home and hunt the next evening I see a bunch of boot prints and drag marks after my bil told me he didn't get anything. When I come out to my truck the neighbor is standing by my truck he tells me there was 2 trucks here the last 2 days and he just wanted to let me know. Long story short I finally got an answer out of my Bil and he invited a buddy to join him and his buddy brought his brother and a friend they killed a doe and a spike after I told him NO does or small bucks. In the end I did it to myself I should have known better and I still allowed it. Not really a big deal I never liked him anyways now I have a better excuse to never let him or the rest of their family hunt my places. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Encouraging private land being opened to general hunting

There isn't anything the state could do to interest me into letting anyone hunt my land! The amount of time and $$ I have put into my land is unreal. I do give every person that's asks for permission to hunt the option to buy the farm but haven't had a taker yet and likely never will. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I agree with you, I shouldn't have said always. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Strap in well before getting on it. I wear a line and harness so I can tie off to the tree and am very secure. I almost only have hang on stands and I have replaced all the cables with chains. I also use a safety chain around the tree in case the strap goes. Most of my stands are ones I've welded up myself they are heavy but strong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You have sparked my interest and I have found 3 other manufactures manuals and have not found one that states 200 shots. What company's are you referencing when you say "most?" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Bring your daughter! As a land owner myself I would be WAY more likely to say yes if I knew I was helping a kid enjoy our great sport. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No truer systems has ever been posted. 2footitus is a real disease! The other piece of advice I'll give is what ever your boat budget is only spend half of it on the boat the other half will go towards fixing it to making it usable and if your lucky enough to have some left over after that accessories. No I haven't counted shots, and not good at counting weeks either because I got it on jun 30 so I guess I've had it 3 weeks. I shoot it and my bow every day unless it's raining"I think I missed 1 day due to rain" I have 12 practice bolts and a target with 12 individual dots. I keep my bolts in a little quiver I made and shoot 2 or 3 quivers a day. So if we only call it 24 shots a day for 21 days that's over 500 shots, and that's not counting the 100 or more I took the day I got it. I would guess I'm probably a lot closer to 700 than 500. I just looked in my manual and the only thing I can find on string and cable life is they recommend every 2 year replacement. If I have to put new strings and cables on it once a year I'll be fine with that I have to do the same with my compound. I shoot a lot it's what I love to do, I come home from work grab a beer and shoot bows and now crossbows. From my research I'm more likely shoot shoot out a limb than I am a string from just shooting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I bought mine a couple weeks ago and have shot well over 500 shots and the string looks new. I am a diehard bow hunter shoot year round and I bought a Xbow this year and I love it! It splits up the season and adds another weapon for me to use. Life's about variety and choices we live the best country in the world and are fortunate to have these options. I hope we never go to full inclusion I like the way season is split up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Your pack must be huge! Carrying that much would bring back terrible memories of walking way to far with way too much crap in the service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have over 30 stands between 3 different properties and I have absolutely been still hunting and found stands I have forgot about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A deer will always try to bed with a good amount of vision up wind. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mine are up year round but I have started trimming and checking them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There's a few pics of my rig. She's an 89 16ft Starcraft. I bought the boat cheap and have more than tripled my initial investment setting it up the way I want it, my fish finder was more than I payed for the boat. I troll for trout and salmon 90% of the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good luck, food for all the seasons and keep pressure to an absolute minimum. I have 400 acres and only hunt 100 of them until Nov1. The slightest amount of human pressure will turn a mature buck nocturnal very fast. If u only have 1 stand I wouldn't hunt it more than once a week and that would only be if wind is right. I have made some for a buddies garand I used winchester power points can't remember the powder or charge but they shot well and killed a few deer. Sry but I also won't make you any. But if you find someone who will I will look in my books and find the exact recipe I used. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That is my thought exactly! Let's say you kill 3 deer a year with a bow and use a new rage every time that's 60$ a year. That's cheap money in my opinion. I wouldn't want to go through the feelings of losing a deer while using the knock offs and be wondering if it was a broad head malfunction. Not saying a factory rage can't fail but at least I would know I did everything I could to mitigate the chances. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I start a range session off by taking out my H&R single 10ga with a turkey load lay it across the bench and touch one off. After that even a 6lb 35 whelen feels like a 22. Since recently picking up a used custom model 7 in 350 rem mag I am amazed how "manageable" the recoil is for a very light rifle, that thing is enjoyable to shoot. But I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the stock design. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don't know if it's possible, but is I figure it out I might give it a try! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The funny thing about recoil is everyone's perception is different. I have a buddy that hunts with a 300wby mag that won't shoot my 6lb 35 whelen carbine because he says it kicks too much. I don't find it to kick bad but it is "jumpy." The rifle makes as much difference as the cartridge. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have never paid much attention to rubs early in the season because I don't cover country like I do when "if" we get snow but I can tell you I have never tracked a buck that I wanted to kill that rubbed a sapling. I'm sure there are small bucks that rub big trees and big bucks that rub small ones just haven't really saw it my self. Other than the home farm I hunt big woods where deer act "normal" all season because of limited pressure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My favorite part! I never freeze em, it's like my celebratory meal. For breakfast it's sliced thin and cooked with maple syrup. For lunch or dinner it's sliced thin and cooked in buyer and onions. I enjoy it so much i try like hell not to aim for it with a gun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don't shoot expandable because I don't trust them, there is no way I would trust a knock off or factory 2nd expandable. It would always be in the back of my mind worrying about it performing. My father shoots rages and I think he's killed 5 or 6 deer with the same head. Unless you loose them 3 heads should last for lots of deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
