Tuesday morning was out in the Stone stand out back. It was a beautiful morning so I was prepared to see nothing lol. Even though it was 37 or so there was a frost on the leaves making them a bit crunchy. I was just done having my 8am coffee when I heard something behind me. I turned and saw a deer behind me so slowly stood and turned. Ended up being a doe and fawn and at first I though the doe was small so I did not raise my gun. They turned and walked right to me and I realized she was a good doe I couldn't move lol. They walked 5 feet to the side of my stand and under me. I stayed still until I could hear they were enough past me and moving that I could move without getting busted. I got her with the ML at about 40 yards stopped broadside. She went 50 yards and fell over. Nice doe, 110 dressed. I will probably not hit it too much more as my freezer is in good shape. I will get out with the boys over the weekend and if I get a chance at a Big buck or a fat doe I know my boys would want the meat.

I will give that a try. And sorry to hear. Life can sure kick you in the nuts at times but in the end things work out I truly believe. If there is anything I can do just PM me. We all brothers and sisters here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I came into 10 deer hearts, don’t ask I’m not telling lol. I am going to be pickling at least half. These are all good sized adults. what should I expect to get, a pint per heart? any extra tips. I am going to use Wolc’s Moms recipe with onion added I think. This needs to be super as some is going to the source and if it is a hit maybe the source continues which would be stellar! How do I get ahold of Mike to trim the hearts as it specifies in the recipe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

St. Lawrence county (cranberry lake)

Beautiful up in that area. With that size of chunk I bet you could pull and hold some nice deer. Just need to mitigate with the possible snowfall with cover and food sources. And a good dose of yote control. Though bears my take more fawns than yotes up there. -

Congratz on the house and the nice buck. Looks like a great setup and views! I'm not sure your upstate though, we will say northern NYC lol.

Up and in, 37 degrees. Lots of geese already this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I always thought the same thing as I hunt/ live in an area called three rivers. Pretty much have geese flying over me close enough to shoot every few sits outa my tree stands. Probably blasting away at geese would cut down on deer sightings from zero to well zero lol.

Sounds like a good time! Can you double dose? Hunt duck and deer same time? I always hesitated for the fact is how do you know what the heck that bird has been eating? Like polluted Onondaga lake garbage, the sludge water next to someone's outhouse etc.... has Cornell ever tested bird meat lol?

Rob, I came to the conclusion a long while back that I may not be a great hunter but persistence usually pays off. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while lol! Plus if I am sitting on the couch I keep looking outside thinking wtf is out there now lol. I got nine months to rest!

Where would you find deer now, late season?
Fletch replied to Northcountryman's topic in Deer Hunting
I'll be brief as there are a lot better hunters than me on here... But it depends on what ground you are hunting. If it's private, light pressured land with food attractions....crops etc you want to be between bedding and the food. Play the wind right. If your hunting heavy pressured land and public. Get deeper and thicker. If your seeing sign you got a start. Like you said that is probably night movement. So you need to figure out where from and where to. In these places still hunting might gain you a lot of knowledge. -
After opening morning which I never see anything anyway I usually start seeing deer after the second week. Usually after some snow has been on the ground for a bit with some depth. This season has been warm. Only had more than an inch of snow on the ground once and that was last Thursday and shot the doe. Now back to bare ground again. The places I hunt the deer are just browsing and without at least 5+ inches of snow they seem spread all over and not inclined to move much. I will be out solid all week before work and the weekend. I wouldn't mind getting you some points lol. I slipped out for the last hour tonight on the field edge but no bueno. I do better late season than regular season pretty much every year.

Well the end of gun season and not much to add. My BIL who has bee at it hard on the weekends finally got a shot last night and had does all around him. He took a nice medium sized doe. Now onto ML I'm still looking for a nice buck or a chunky doe to top off the freezer and will be out most days of ML before I head to FL for XMas. So for you late fantasy deer folks I am outa the game 12/22-30. And will get out the last two days of the Holiday hunt most likely!

48 and snow all gone. If it gets any wetter and muddier I am going to have to get taller boots to get into this stand. Still waiting for a cruising buck and got a signed over doe tag in case a fat one shows. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Most exciting part of my morning was just peeing out my stand trying to write my name in the snow from 20 feet! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
