  1. Interesting...always thought that was to small of a round. I hope you get one so I can hear how it works out
  2. If my choices are crooked..corrupt..criminal or who knows...I am going to choose who knows every time
  3. I think every crow in Rensselaer County is in the trees around me....the noise is deafening
  4. Buckmaster...I know the feeling....brought a guy in a couple years ago who was a good friend of mine and wanted to join our lease....10/1...ten minutes after shooting time I get a text that he got a deer down. I tell him I am going to sit till 10am then I would come help...just had a 3 pt come through while typing this...anyway...I go to help and he doesn't know where he hit it...where it was standing...where it ran...I am pissed right away...I thought you said it was down...so long story short I find the deer and it is a button buck about the size of my golden retriever...he wasn't invited back
  5. In the stand since 6...hopefully the deer will be moving this am with the monsoon most of the day yesterday and last night...
  6. Seems I have heard this before...Republicans want dirty air, dirty water and destroy all the forest. What a joke. What they want is to use common sense. Something it seems so few people have these days. Like an article someone posted on here a while back that if the keystone pipeline was built it would possibly endanger some beetle. That's the kind of thing that I hope common sense prevails and we tap into our enormous amount of natural resources...
  7. Live from the office checking in on activity. I took Wednesday and Thursday off. First time ever taking time off to hunt. Hopefully it will pay off. I may have to rethink my 6 or better and doe with no fawn strategy these last two days. That strategy has led to a whole lot of nothing for me. Looks like a perfect morning here at the office which is in 5R. I hunt 4K....
  8. Sorry, I guess I misunderstood. I didn't realize you sited the gun in with the scope the way it is. From you post you made it sound like it moved after you sited it in. If that is the case I would still make sure that sucker is tight and will not move again during the season.
  9. While I can't argue with that, I am also 100% sure the deer are dancing around my stand and drinking tea the second I leave it...
  10. Ok, I am going to be that guy...sorry.....Your scope moved and you are seriously considering not messing with it? You HAVE to move the scope back, make sure its level and have the proper eye relief. AND you HAVE to go back to the range and site it back in. Maybe it will be dead on, maybe it won't. Why would you ever consider going into the woods with equipment you were not sure about?
  11. Your hunting deer with a .223? How does that work out? Have you gotten a deer with it yet?
  12. Honestly, its because I am terrible at it. I have tried numerous times and I do see deer. They are just all tail up bounding away from me. No matter how quiet and slow I still break sticks and crunch leaves.
  13. I have mine sited perfect at 100 yds..I have never needed to shoot farther
  14. I am no expert, but I would draw your bow and anchor normally. Don't draw and aim at the deer at the same time. This will make your form correct. Then find your target by bending at the waist and keeping the form in your upper body. Improper form will change your POI more than anything else. Although I would have never changed from 100 grain to 125 grain with out checking accuracy. Make sure you do that...
  15. I understand it was stopped for being unconstitutional. I have to look up why exactly it was at some point. Constitution provides for unlawful search and seizure. Was it because of racial profiling? If you are pulled over a cop can frisk you so I never really understood why they can't if you are walking down the street and look suspicious (aka a reason to stop you) I don't know what the cause was that the deemed it unconstitutional. If you know it will save me from looking it up...
  16. In my opinion, if it wasn't for Newt...The Clinton Presidency would have been an utter failure. As much as I despised Bill Clinton, he and Newt did accomplish a few things I was happy about. Like welfare reform. Most of which our current president has reversed. I am not sure how you could not like Rudy. NYC mayor on 9/11, imposed stop and frisk making NYC safer with less crime/shootings than in years. Which of course has all since been overturned making it more dangerous again. Very happy both those guys will be involved...
  17. Saturday 11/12 - In the stand and setup at 5:45. Temp is cold, about 28 degrees and it is breezy. Ozonics set up and pointed to my two o'clock. Right at 8am I see a small buck working through about 75 yds out in front of me. Try to get a clear look with the Bino's but I am unable to clearly see anything more then it has bone. By 9:30 I am freezing and I am seriously considering calling it a day. Right at 10am I see movement out in front of me and it is two doe being pushed by a buck. Looking through the Bino's I can't make a positive identification on this buck either. May have been the buck I saw previously. Knowing that the deer were chasing warmed me up and I stayed until 11:30 before heading out for lunch. For the afternoon I sat at the opposite end of the property where I saw some deer last Sunday evening. (Brians Stand). The wind seems to be swirling really bad and even though the wind should be NW I am having a hard time deciding what way to point the Ozonics. I settle on pointing it at the 10 oclock even though that wouldn't be a NW wind. I sit there not expecting much as the wind seems to be hitting me in my left shoulder and then my right. At 3:30 all hell breaks loose. I catch movement out in front of me and see two doe moving quickly. Then I catch a third deer moving there as well. I lose site of them in some thick brush. Almost immediately I hear a noise behind me and see a great looking buck walking directly toward me about 60 yds away. Tall wide rack but i can't see points because he is straight on. I start slowly turning to my right to hopefully set up for a shot and the two doe I spotted less than a minute before come bursting out toward the big buck being chased by a spike horn. As soon as the big buck sees the two doe he turns, grunts a couple times and takes off after the two doe leaving the Spike standing there like WTF. The spike stood around for at least 15 minutes and then wandered off. I then catch another deer moving through. I assume it is the spike but see that it is a lone doe and I am hoping for a shot. She gets into the thick stuff in front of me and never presents a shot. Then another buck, I believe a fork horn comes out of no where and rips into the thick stuff I assume chasing the single doe who I never see actually leave the thicket. Not long after that I hear more commotion and see two more doe racing through on my right being chased by another nice racked buck (may have been one from earlier but didn't look as big to me). Maybe 15 minutes later I hear a noise behind me again on my right and see a large doe then quickly notice she is being followed by 4 more doe. I believe the same group of 5 that busted me last Sunday. All the deer look mature and I am going to take any one of them if I get a shot. They couldn't be in a worse position for a shot being right handed and having them come in from behind on the right. Trying to move into position with 10 eyeballs was no easy task and I had them notice my movement several times. They knew something was up but were not spooking yet. They stopped their progress forward though. By the time I got into position for a shot the lead doe had turned and was slowly marching her way back the way she came with the other 4 keeping a close eye on me. Watching the deer through the scope on the crossbow as soon as she stepped into an open lane I squeezed the trigger and everything sounded horrible and all 5 deer bounded away. It only took me a second to realize that when I squeezed the trigger the crossbow was too close to the tree and the right side limb smacked the tree on release throwing my bolt into a tree about 10 feet away. Shot wasn't even close. Mad at myself that I did that I sat down and looked the crossbow over. Everything looked ok. I should have let the deer continue on their course hoping they would come out in front of me. I climbed down and headed out front to the property to set up my truck lights on the archery bag and took a couple shots making sure everything was ok. Seemed to be. I saw at least 15 deer today and I don't believe the ozonics played any roll in any of the deer I saw today. Sunday 11/13 - what a difference a day makes. Much warmer, almost 40 degrees and a SE wind have the ozonics pointed at 8 o'clock...With all the action yesterday and Brian hunting his stand today I plan for an all day sit bringing my lunch in with me. At about 7:45 I have a small buck move through from behind me on my left on top of the ridge to right out in front of me never slowing down with his head right to the ground. He must have gone through the ozonics stream and my scent but he was on a mission and never slowed down. Excited about the day seeing this little guy on a mission I sat out until dark without seeing another deer. Very disappointing. I usually save my vacation days for family time but I just told my boss this morning that I am going to take Wed and Thurs off this week. I would really like to get a tag filled before the gun opener on Saturday!
  18. I don't think I will ever figure out deer hunting. Maybe that is why I like it, it isn't easy. Saturday was the best day I have ever had in the woods that I didn't fill a tag. Most deer I have ever seen in one day even on days I have filled tags. I saw at least 15 deer on Saturday and that is assuming some of the deer were ones I had already seen so I didn't count them. This is in a timber stand not in a corn field or food plot. I saw two bucks and two doe in the morning, not really out of the norm although a good morning for me. In the evening I saw at least 11 more deer. 3 more bucks, one being a beautiful rack (couldn't tell how many points) and two other small guys and 8 doe. I took a crack at a big doe but made a rookie crossbow mistake being too close to a tree and my crossbow limb hit the tree when it expanded at the shot. I was so excited for Sunday I packed a lunch instead of leaving the stand. On Sunday I saw a small buck cruise through about 7:45 and didn't see another deer all day. What happened? Saturday seemed like full blown rut and Sunday seemed like maybe the start of seeking. Heck if I know. I guess that's deer hunting...
  19. Boy...what a difference a day makes...saw 15 deer yesterday..they were running everywhere. Decide if am going to even skip lunch today and I haven't seen a thing since 7:45...it's so warm I am having trouble staying awake. Cutting the beans about a 1/4 mile away this afternoon...hopefully something will happen. Magic hour is upon us
  20. This mesh seat is on its 5th season....out all year...wouldn't get anything else
  21. Just had a little buck come cruising through...couldn't tell if more than a spike..just that he had bone. Hopefully he finds what he is looking for and pushes them this way
  22. Hopefully I will knock something down today...if not I am going to take a couple days off this week...usually save vacation time for family stuff...hopefully today will go good and I won't have to worry about it
  23. I won't let it happen again. I was focused on my view through the scope. I have been bow hunting a few years but this is my first time with the crossbow. Funny..I thought it would be easier..if I had my bow I would have had a deer down today..
