  1. I don't have any pics because I am at work. For years I was using an Old Timer that my Dad bought for me when I was old enough to deer hunt. I never liked the knife. The blade curves back and I always found it difficult to cut on the inside when you are going by feel. I never switched or bought another knife just because my Dad bought this one. Somehow the topic came up and I was telling my Dad about how the curve of the blade makes gutting difficult. He went upstairs and brought me down his hunting knife which was also his fathers. Hopefully it keeps bringing me luck because I carried that knife for the first time on opening day and also killed my biggest buck and probably the biggest I will ever kill. (hope not) It was great to gut that deer thinking about all the deer my Grandfather gutted with it and the few my father did as well...
  2. Ladder stands are cheap, especially after the season. You could probably purchase 5 of them for the price of a good climber. Get a few, set them up and be done with it. I believe if you are on public land you just need to tag them with you name address etc. and take them down at the end of the season. The deer don't care at all about the ladder.
  3. Great season, congrats! I tell myself it can all change in a second about every 30 seconds when I am sitting in a stand....
  4. Hmm....never thought about that....can I edit my conclusions? I was just trying to be as honest as possible. Hopefully I get more encounters next season and get more evidence.
  5. That is pretty much what I was hoping for. To have deer come in downwind on multiply occasions. I only had deer come in and end up downwind. I am not sure what would prove the test conclusively? I believe I had deer down wind. I can't prove that they couldn't smell my scent.
  6. I saw lots of doe during bow, crossbow and opening day. I was always waiting for the buck. Now that I have my buck tag filled, the doe are in underground bunkers I believe. I wouldn't be at all worried about filling my DMP on the property I hunt.
  7. Unless something happens this weekend, this will be the third year I haven't filled my DMP tag. I haven't seen a deer since opening day of rifle. Whenever I don't get a DMP I feel like all I see are doe. That seems to be the way it works for me...
  8. Great Buck, nice job! Way to get it done so late in the season!
  9. I don't remember the date...but one hunt this year I left around 10am because I was worried about my safety. That has never happened to me before...I usually just deal with the wind but when I heard a second tree fall this year on one hunt. I decided I was being stupid and left...
  10. I will be out next Sunday. We always do drives on the last day, its fun hunting while talking and making noise. My stand hunting is down for the year. I highly doubt I will be out for the late season. It just gets too busy between getting ready for snowmobile season and family/holiday obligations.
  11. Well chances are my stand hunting is done for the season so, so is the ozonics. My findings for the season are kind of a mixed bag. For anyone worried about the health effects I would say that is a non issue. May be different in a blind but I never use a blind so I don't know. A lot of the reviews I read before purchasing. If it was a negative review it had to do with noise. The ozonics makes a noise that I can describe as a white noise. I had deer as close as ten feet from my tree and they never seemed to notice the noise. I find it very hard to believe the reviews that people said the noise scared off game. I never found this to be the case. The extended life battery lasted on all day sits never needing the one that came with the unit. I kind of feel like this would be useless without the extended life battery. The unit should come with it to begin with. Unless you only hunt for 2 or 3 hours a day, the extended battery is a must. I did have a difficult time deciding how to set the unit up on those "perfect" hunting mornings with no wind. A few times i had trouble with swirling wind as well. All of my game observations came during bow season. I believe on 4 separate occasions I had deer down wind of me with no adverse reactions at ranges between 15 and 40+ yards. On a few of those occasions I was able to check the wind and make sure the animal was indeed down wind. Skeptics would say other factors were at play, thermals, stupid deer etc. I have to say that it would have to be a major coincidence to have that happen on 4 separate occasions if the ozonics wasn't doing something but I can't prove it. I believe in past years I would have been blown at in those instances or just had the deer quickly leave the area. The only time I was blown at this year was on a day with swirling winds. I had deer coming in on my left behind me and I slowly reached up to move the ozonics so it was between me and the deer hopefully protecting me from the swirling winds. . I never noticed the other two deer coming in on my right behind me when blow blow blow and all the deer scatter. I can not say that I saw any deer because of the ozonics. All of the deer I saw came from a direction other than where the wind was blowing and either never went down wind or crossed what I would consider my scent path after they were seen. Had they been deer I wanted to kill during bow season, on a couple of occasions the deer did need to cross my scent path to offer a broadside or quartering away shot. Shot opportunities that may not have presented themselves if not for the ozonics. I killed my biggest buck to date on opening day of rifle but all of his time in view was upwind of me so the ozonics played no role in my only harvest this season. So I guess I will end my review by saying that I will for sure be continuing to use the ozonics because I didn't see one instance where it hurt me but I did have a few instances where I am pretty sure it may have helped but I have no proof that it did. I was hoping that I would be able to say this thing is amazing and if you are hunting without it you are really missing out but I can't say that either. I guess if you want my honest opinion it would be, I believe there is something to this thing, but I can't justify the cost in making a recommendation for people to purchase one. If it was $100 or less, I would probably say it would be worth giving it a shot. I hope this was helpful to some people...
  12. Sunday 12/4 - Up in the stand and setup at 6:15. Temp about 30 degrees with a steady NW wind. Ozonics pointed at about 1 Oclock. This was most likely my last sit of the season. I no deer sighted. Haven't seen a deer since opening day of rifle. Nobody has seen much of anything since Thanksgiving. Climbed down at 10:30 and did a couple small pushes with the three other guys hunting today. Nothing! Next Sunday will be drives so unless I get out late season my stand sitting and the ozonics is done for the year.
  13. Catching up on what everyone has been seeing...congratulations...rockspec....doebuck...growalot...and everyone else that got a deer down..this will likely be my last Stand sit of the season. We usually do drives the last weekend. I haven't seen a deer since the rifle opener.
  14. That sucks...houses are a PIA......Good luck getting that straightened out....
  15. Pretty cool, congrats on the deer!
  16. What are going to do with that sucker when a deer comes through. You better set that somewhere else....
  17. That actually sounds like a great system. One I had never thought of. BUT....how far are you going to make a person drive for a check in station? 20 Miles? 50 Miles? Even at 50 Miles that would be a lot of manpower to cover the state from Oct 1st - Dec 11th... That would leave no DEC officers to patrol for poachers, trespassers etc. Now, expanding on your idea...I could see creating a DEC app for a smartphone...You have to scan your tag and submit a pic of your deer or something along those lines. If you tag isn't scanned by the app and submitted they have to be scanned and sent in as unused. Now that being said...Can you require a person to have a smart phone to hunt. Probably not but I could see something along those lines working as technology progresses.
  18. While I agree that you are correct...How many of those people that are willing to fill their tag, wifes tag, kids tag etc....are going to stop at a deer check station? Out of the 12 guys I hunt with, I am the only person that brings my deer to a butcher. Everyone else goes home, hangs them and butchers them. So I don't know the actual percentage of hunters that use a processer but my guess is it is low. I have to follow the law (and would anyway) because I know DEC is going to see my deer at the processor. My guess is a good majority of the hunters wouldn't bother with a deer check in even if mandatory. They are going to go in the back of the truck, then home and cut up...Or dragged from "out back" and cut up. More laws only hurt the people that abide by them....
  19. That is really awesome. I looked at my camera cards on Sunday hoping my sequence of events was captured but it didn't capture any of it. Other than the help that was arriving....
  20. One buck rule is not going to stop the guy that fills his wife's tag, kids tag etc....It would be another rule that hurts the law abiders...
  21. I haven't read that but if that is true...That is scary as hell....Where do you draw the line? I saw a hunter over there a few minutes ago but I know nothing will happen because Jesus is on my side....I know there is a housing development over that ridge, but God is on my side so I am going to shoot that deer on top of it...I know those guys are driving deer toward me and I should wait until the deer moves past me to take the shot but I know in my heart god will guide my shot....Look, I have nothing against religious people...but if they are thinking that way, the aren't religious, they are coo coo....
  22. I just can't fathom why someone would do this...I mean why? Are you going to look at that deer and think...yea boy...I got that sucker....tuff shot...almost couldn't get the window down all the way without him spooking...I just don't understand what would make someone do that. Same with people jacking deer at night...what do these people need a deer so badly for? Food? I don't get it...I guess because I am not a criminal...
  23. Time is actually 10:35 am. I never switch time for the time change. When I try to zoom in the pic gets very fuzzy. Its only a 5mp trail cam.
  24. I believe I have two pics on my trail camera of the big 9 pt I shot on opening day 11/19. They were taken on 11/17 when of course I was sitting in another stand. I am happy to have the pics of the deer but if they could be better pics that would be even better!
