Awesome story and beautiful buck...Thanks for sharing. The buck I shot this past season (in my avatar) did basically the same thing as your buck. Broadside, about 75 yds through the woods. I shot at him 3 times and couldn't understand why I was missing. I did the same exact thing...told myself to relax..squeeze the trigger....the 4th shot he dropped like a sack of potatoes.....I hit him in the spine on the fourth shot. The other three were all right behind the shoulder in a nice little group, all about an inch apart and he never even flinched. This was with my Browning BAR .308 shooting Hornady Ballistic Tips 165gr....I switched ammo!

The stand I hunt most frequently is a double stand. I lay all my crap out on the seat next to me and any movement I make getting it is concealed by the camo surround on the stand. When I hunt a stand that isn't a two man I feel kind of lost. but I attach my back pack so it hangs from the shooting rail in front of me so all my stuff is within reach and movement is concealed by the camo surround...

Hmm....I have as well...can't be a coincidence....I will continue with this....

There was an advertisement in my new Bow Hunter magazine that sounds very similar. It looked awesome....I believe when I read the crossbow rules and regulations (for this year) there was a min A to A. Can't remember what it was but I am positive it was more than 6"....

I think Zurlo is basically just letting people know the law is BS which he does at every turn and I am thankful for that. My guess is that the state is worried about Counties not complying when the time comes to turn in our handguns whether that time is 5 years from now or 50 years from now....

Where did you see this and what exactly does that mean. I am in Saratoga County. Zurlo has been an excellent Sheriff as far as the Safe act is concerned....

We used to play with them all the time....Smash them with a hammer, burn them with a magnifying glass, very rarely in an actual cap gun. A roll or even two whole rolls on the garage floor smashed with a hammer would make my ears ring for hours....Great times....Just found out today that I am old as shit I guess...

I agree 1000%....I sure wouldn't want to be a cop these days. No matter what you choose it is the wrong way. I feel awful for what they have to put up with. If you have a knife and are being aggressive to a police officer, are told to drop the knife and don't comply. As far as I am concerned you should get a double tap to the chest. This police officer chose a different way and is still getting scrutinized. Being a police officer is a lose lose situation these days and it is a real problem.

While I will admit to rolling my eyes at a lot of wolc123 posts...I don't see anything wrong with him posting how he feels, just like you and i do. Everyone of us is different and hunts for different reasons. None of them are wrong...He isn't telling you that you should feel that way....

I love being in the woods, watching them wake up, seeing the sun break the horizon. Watching the squirrels play and any other animals that I am lucky enough to see. But if that was the answer then I could sit in the woods anytime and I don't. I enjoy all the time spent with my hunting buddies and the stories that we tell and the brother hood that comes with hunting. But I can also see my hunting buddies without hunting so that isn't the answer. For me the answer is the unbelievable rush I get from seeing a deer. Any deer...even a fawn. I have no idea what it is about seeing a deer in the woods that gets my blood pumping the way it does. Even ones I have absolutely no intension of shooting give me a feeling like nothing else I have experienced. I have no idea why this happens. Buck fever I guess but even little tiny fawns that I would never consider shooting have my knees knocking. I race my corvette, drag race snowmobiles, I used to drag race motorcycles and the rush I get seeing a little baby deer that doesn't know I am there for whatever reason is 50 times larger than anything else I do. I guess it is like a drug...I am not sure how I pull myself together enough to make a shot when the opportunity arises. I have missed my fair share so maybe the answer is I don't. If that magical feeling ever goes away, i will be done hunting.

I used an ozonics for the first time this year. Had some interesting results with it. It didn't help with my one and only deer take this season though. That was the only thing I did different this year.

I got another trail camera and a scope for the .22. Also a very bright LED light that will apparently also charge my cell phone while I am in the woods.
